- As a gay person living with HIV in a conservative Asian society like Singapore, Avin Tan shares the challenges he faced and life-lessons he learnt after his diagnosis and coming out in the public. He calls for a less discriminative society and a better HIV educated community.
Avin Tan is one of Singapore’s most prominent HIV advocate, and is only the second person to come out as a person living with HIV in Singapore. He stands for the equal rights and support for people living with HIV, as well as better access to care and treatment.

I got tested today im thankfull because its a non reactive.. i hope people more people should be aware about this issue it must be teach in children in adults in all of us because this thing "HIV" is a global awareness thing.

Following on a comment below where someone says that sending all those who have hiv to an island, I can conly comment that this will neither stop hiv, nor be a solution. Part of the solution is for people to be wiser and certainly responsible with what they do and have safe practices. The other solution would of course be to abstain (both male and female) prior to marriage and then complete fidelity but sine there is no way we can guarantee that men are vigrins or that partners will be faithful, i suppose that complete absitnence or protecting one self all the time are the only viable solutions. I chose abstinence because love cannot be reduce to sex for one and for a second, as i will never be able to trust anyone knowing what the deal is, i am just not going to take any risk and any chance.
Just ignore that foolish skank.

I remember watching a tv show where an Asian-American psychotherapist was informed by a former lover that he had hiv. She was sure she had to have it too, and soon afterward, she became very sick with a fever. Then she was tested. The test came out negative and her fever subsided without treatment. Interesting, isn't it? It wasn't hiv giving her the fever, so what was it? The mind is quite something, don't you agree? You'd be surprised how many people would receive positive results if tested, and yet they're living perfectly normal lives without any treatment whatsoever. Don't get it twisted, I am not an anti-medical parader, I am just making observations.

Fear and the placebo/nocebo effect play a big role. If you have HIV, and you are convinced it needs treatment then you will submit to protocols that do more harm than good, and probably shorten your life. Meanwhile the people with HIV who have no "access" to these "miracle drugs" and PREPS do better. and are not discernable from anyone else. I think humans have the wrong story about viruses. We have made them the enemy to be subdued which is an absurd notion. If you study enough you will realize that HIV does not cause AIDS, but we have been fooled by a false premise. See Kary Mullis, and DR. Zach Bush MD from The Highwire interview last thursday.

@Ron Si haha 22yrs no symptoms, no medications and very healthy ..... our body are different. Those who need medication should take it but those whose CD's are still good can wait meanwhile. Good Doctors give right information and also look out for them ........ all bodies arent the same ..... i eat well, sleep well doing my Phd all who are HIV have a life. If u chose the HIV to difine u u will be sick .......
