  • I saw an old David Brown 30c with multiple issues on marketplace so I grabbed it for $200 for parts. The rims will fit my db25 and are in much better condition, before I strip it for parts I'll see if I can get it running.

  • @TokyoCraftsman
    @TokyoCraftsman 3 роки тому +31

    It must be very satisfying to bring an old girl like that back to working condition, well done.
    That JB weld stuff is legend.
    With the regular high heat two-part stuff I once fixed a crack and a gouge on the clutch side cover of a buddy's sportbike after he dropped it in a corner on a mountain road, oil puking out of the gouge and crack. We were miles from the nearest town out in Western Japan. I laid the bike on its side, clutch side cover up, and used a file and a rock to scrape the paint off and rough the surface up, mixed up the two-part JB High heat stuff, quick-drying, and patched the side cover. He bet me dinner that it would not hold.
    Two or three years later when he sold the bike he had still not replaced the side cover, it never did leak. That JB weld is always in my roadside repair bag of tricks.
    Cheers from Tokyo!

    64 this year and this certainly brings back memories.. I’ve always been mechanically enclined. I loved working on old discarded engines, lawn mowers, and tractors. My opus was an old Johndeere B that apparently hadn’t run in years. As a 14 year old I worked on it every chance I got. Easter morning, dressed in a powder blue leisure suit for church, couldn’t stay away from the tractor... I spun the flywheel and the engine popped and another, I was so excited I forgot myself and what I was wearing. After another spins the engine started... as it started dirt and soot spat out of the exhaust pipe all over my suit.. I was dead meat.

    The oil draining hurt my soul.. That's one of those instances I would fill it up with diesel let it sit and drain it then fill it again with diesel and run it for 2-3 minutes. Clear all that crud out of it. And before any one jumps on me I am a mechanic for over 30 years and do this regularly on equipment in the Alaskan bush.

Above all, the parts are usually glued together into a hopeless plastic package, which doesn't help that you know it's only a ten-cent part that needs to be replaced, but you are forced to buy the whole package plus get the computer to accept the replacement! Japanese transmission filters are just a screen also and they're fairly common to be able to buy still. I'm sure lot of the Japanese cars have a just a screen for a filter in the transmission. You may be able to adapt it for this tractor's hydraulics . All the best from Canada.

    Take a tin of dried mustard, add to water in radiator and run engine hot for half an hour. Seals a lot of holes. My Dad tried that back in the 50s when spares were expensive and hard to get. It worked for years. LOL

    Took it for a spin and thought , I'm just going to weld a few patches on it and use it for a beater.
    two months later and a mile of mig wire its my favorite car.

    Have you ever bought or found anything that you could not get running? People put mud in the oil pan and buttermilk in the hydraulic system, then wonder why it would not run. It seems a lot of people will buy stuff and then forget that it needs a little maintenance. Marty you do good.

    • @1954jeremiah
      @1954jeremiah 3 роки тому +3

      That's what we did on my grandfather's Massey Harris 55 when plowing,when the left wheel started to break traction and spin,hit the left brake pedal,and shift power to the right side,,got out of some pretty bad wet muddy furrows that way!!😎

    • @TheMetalButcher
      @TheMetalButcher 3 роки тому +2

      @@cyrilhudak4568 Partly. The wheels tend to plow when turning sharp, differiential braking can help. With a tricyle tractor, braking one side can allow you to turn basically in a circle, great for plowing. Also good where your steering tire traction is limited or your front wheels aren't on the ground, etc.
