Marty Daam, another DB 999 for $500 with a loader too. Gawd , and it started up, purred like a kitten. Those DBs were well made, you are one lucky guy:)
Marty, she's a 1965 - 1968 early series Selectamatic she has a AD4/47 motor not a AD4/49 like your other 990. Common with these old girls is the rear oil seal which isn't a seal but a oil flinger and over time they get blow bye and push oil onto the clutch and oil inpregnant it and slip. He nonchalantly killed a poisonous spider lol. What I'm surprised about is he never seems to blow hydraulic lines on these old machines. My father bought a 50 year old backhoe/dozer, a small one, like 5000 pounds. Every time he used it he blew a hydraulic line until they were all replaced.
The fuel issue there is no fuel in tank! Tell these owners you normally get 500$ removal fee ( but) today is their lucky day if you can get running and drive onto trailer. Yesterday I couldn’t spell mechanic today i is a mechanic!!!!!🙂

My Dad bought 1 of those for $500. Put a new piston in it. We ran it for 5 or 6 years. Sold it to a neighbor for $1200 and it's still running just fine.
by the way.. a TIP for starters on equipment that have sat a long time.. short the solenoid top to bottom post.. this spins the armature and does the commutator a nice cleaning without load.. don't let if freewheel spin under power for long.. just touch and let it spindown.. touch and let it spin down.. no use exploding the armature with excessive speed. and the spin down without electrons jumping the brushes is really a good way to clean the surfaces..
Good find. We recently picked up a Case DB 990. With a dedicated fork fitted to it. I replaced the fuel filters and cleaned the sediment bowl and runs very nice. Your previous db video was extremely informative on changing the other filters and oil levels. Thanks. We laughed reading your blurb about your missus and enough tractors. My wife said, sounds like me and my cast iron cooking pots...
Great 500 bucks worth. David brown tractors are very popular with classic farm machinery collectors over here in the UK because of the Aston Martin connection. Got a mate with three of them. Great watching you bring her back to life!
We have a David brown 990 as well. We love it. The only problem with it is that the hydraulic pumps are known to got bad. Luckily the case 990 hydraulic pumps are the exact same so it isn’t really a problem and it’s not hard to fix. We’ve also got a David brown 1200 which is a power horse and it’s kinda unstoppable. They seem to be really good tractors
It’s amazing how there are some people out there with stuff like this, they might tinker with the problem then lose interest and just let it sit then eventually get rid of when all it was to run was a simple cleaning and checking filters. I’ve gotten a couple of lawn tractors and mowers that people say they don’t run....cleaned the carb, fresh fuel and runs like new. Love these videos!

It would not start when compression was engaged and disengaging would just cause it to turn almost 1K rpm. Thermostart worked but didn't help, valves were proper, no water in oil. Turns out after he checked heads, pistons, and other things the front seal on the injection pump was leaking. Didn't expect it, but at the time I wasn't sure on keeping it as it didn't move (hydro/shuttle shift trans) so you couldn't even attempt to roll start, and the fact that the exhaust pointed up with no sign of a cover for years (mud wasp nest blew out of it when it was trying to start) i was expecting water to have ate into the liners.

Ah, this brings back memories from my childhood at my uncle's farm in the late 70s. He only bought David Browns. If my memory serves me well (it might not 😊) I think he had two 880 selectamatics, and a 990 with cab and power steering. A few years later he entered the 4WD world with a 1490. Thanks for putting up these videos, Marty T. It is always a pleasure to watch them.
Ok so imagen how the directions where to the guy's house, take the road north then cross a river then diver thru the woods to a field and you there, it's easy to find you should have NP finding it

Marty, I've fixed rams worse than that with superglue. Clean the ram with a good solvent, sand with some 1200 grit, clean again and then fill all the pits with superglue. It sets rock hard. Sand again with 400, 1200 & 1800 wet-and-dry and the seals will be happy.
This was a good find. One thing to note, with the depth control/position control lever behind the quadrant lever, when you change its position you should always hold the quadrant lever fully back against the spring or I’m told you can cause damage inside the valve chest. Good video.

Cheers Gregg.
I love the registration plate.
Lucky you! Man that was worth every bit you paid! It's very exciting to find a nice tractor that needs a little tlc! Waiting for next David Brown video!
Good job! 😍
That farm view where you picked up the bucket and forks from sure was beautiful.
From a fan in Massachusetts. You've got the luck........ and the skills. Great combination!! Great find, Great job!
Ok so imagen how the directions where to the guy's house, take the road north then cross a river then diver thru the woods to a field and you there, it's easy to find you should have NP finding it
don't forget oil filter on top of left axle . Late 60s db 990
Marty got a filter replacement cartridge from Australia for that....
Definitely would like to see the straightening of the hydraulic ram for the fork. Thanks for uploading. Thumbs up!
Marty, I have been watching you for a while. I live in Central Florida in the USA. You make me want to go out and get a tractor. I have no idea what I would do with it because I do not have the land for it but I am amazed what you do. Please keep making the videos!
Sounds like a good trick, thanks
This was a good find. One thing to note, with the depth control/position control lever behind the quadrant lever, when you change its position you should always hold the quadrant lever fully back against the spring or I’m told you can cause damage inside the valve chest. Good video.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that
I've got a 1967 David Brown 1200, and other than a couple things they are great tractors!
Can't wait for the maintenance on this tractor to begin!!
Marty, I like watching your down to earth video's, look forward to your next one.
Good find, well saved!
