- I'm not a big fan of pushing a hand mower around, I usually let sheep do the work - • Lawnmower won't start?... I can't keep the sheep in town so when I was offered this old non running ride on mower I couldn't refuse.

That little boy will always remember working with his dad. Its so important to create great memories for little kids. Because they will become what you teach and show them.
The siren from hell goes off.. Marty couldn't give a single shit, keeps working on the ride on.. brilliant 😂😂
"that's a bloody wasp.. I don't like wasps"
I support this statement 🐝 🔫 😂
“Die motherf***er”
That siren sounded exactly like the one in Schloss Adler (Where Eagles Dare).
SIT DOWN, COLONEL!
Very inquisitive son there, Marty. He'll forever remember having these special times w/you in the yard. You're a very fortunate lad. Once again......there's just NO stopping you in your quest for operability!
I just wrote a similar comment on his other video :)
Yes. Don't miss these opportunities with your children, you will regret it when you are older, we all do.
Your kid looking into the camera made me laugh out loud. My kids are high school and college age now, but I remember those days. Enjoy them while they are young. It goes by quickly.
Yeah it was a cute moment and it cheered me up 🤗
Made me say "Well hi there"
Yeah, that time just fly past. Missing it :-)
Everyone not from new Zealand is going to panic at the siren. It's called a civil defence siren and it's used in some small towns in New Zealand as a callout to volunteer fire brigade members.
Here in Southampton UK is used to announce lunch time at the port hahaha
Nah, Aussie Volunteer Fire brigades are the same as are many US volunteer firies.
Mostly replaced by SMS and Pagers today though but the sirens still sound.
Fire tornado and 12-6 and 9 in small towns here in the USA
Central PA volunteer fire call-out too. Near my dads house, it sounds like a sick cow sound.
Ours in southwest MO goes off every day at 5 pm.
Even under threat of a Chinese Air Raid Marty perseveres!
Mr. Marty, Gentleman farmer.
That close-up ASMR wasp crunch 3:45 was incredibly satisfying 😍🤣🔥
You are what we USE to have in Australia, a "bush mechanic"
nice picture of the daughter peeking into the camera. reminded me of own kids "helping" me work.
Glad to see the air raids didn’t get you!
The alarm was likely either Earthquake or Tsunami warning, depending where in New Zealand it is.
@@user-Adam72 I don't believe there are any earthquake sirens. tsunami sirens in most coastal areas though
@@user-Adam72 actually that was the siren from a fire station. it's a backup for the fire fighters' pagers
I'm not in New Zealand but here the fire department uses air raid sirens to alert the volunteers that there is a fire.
From memory we used to have them if there was a fire (Feilding Manuatu) that was 21 years ago
Love the sound of children in background
Marty is so cool he doesn't even flinch when the tsunami siren goes off. Kinda like how us southerners in the U.S. hear the tornado siren and grab the video camera.
Lol. In small town NZ that used to mean there's a fire somewhere and for the volunteer firemen to all drop what they are doing and head for the Fire Station to man the engine. May still be the case where Marty is.
@@briananthony4044 still the case, most volunteer brigades still have the siren.
Probably more like a higher than normal wind warning siren after the shite weather here recently
Where I live, the city simply performs a test drive on the sirens once a month, at the exact same time. Needless to say, I'm quite used to the sound after many years. I simply assumed that was the case in this video as well, so your post opened my eyes somewhat. I guess there are places in the world where there's actual use for the sirens, haha.
You’ve inspired me. I fixed my coffee machine. Next a complete filter change on the Ute.
Probably the only way Kansas and New Zealand are the same: warning sirens (tornado sirens in Kansas) don't stop you from working on your project.
"I'd like to ride on that dad"😁 How good is that.👍
The belts can changed from underneath, it's a lot easier with deck off. I repair mowers and use a old hospital bed to lift mowers up high, saves your back and knees 😁.
I’m with you! 👍🏼👍🏼Remove the deck!!
Lose the deck and lift the front and stand it up on it's backside. That's how I do it. As long as the cylinders are above the oil you're good. Most mowers are built to be lifted like that.
It sounds like there is a kids birthday party happening in the background at one point, haha. Very cool
For someone not mechanically minded (me), everything you do is fascinating, love your work Marty.
Maybe I’ve been stung too many times, but those crunches were satisfying 🤣
If I hadn't squashed them, I can pretty much guarantee they would have ended up down my sleeve or in a boot
@@MartyT I’ve had too many down my sleeves or sneaking up for a quick poke on my neck not to enjoy the squish lol!
Strewth! I'ts ze Lutfwaffa! Its taken em a few years to get there but fair play, they’re tryers!
Messing about with a knackered old tractor while the SS20's are inbound!
Those mowers are the worst to change drive belts on. I’ve done many and hated each and every one...well done for your patience. 👏👏👍
Nice to have your boy around and wanting to help
Hi from the UK. I just settled down to view your video and then suddenly ran to the shed to get my old mans gas mask and tin helmet and took my tablet and hid under the stairs. Bloody hell what was that ?
I think those Vanguards are really good engines.
And, Mrs. T, it was free!
Pure artestry. Now, I think I will change my mower's oil!
i'd
like to see you weld up a sweet little go-kart! Boo-yah!
My grandpa has a 1995 yard pro garden tractor made by craftsman with Briggs and Stratton van guard engine 20hp the garden tractor is at least 30+ year's old and she is the best mower my grandpa ever had and he still has it today 😃😄
Thats another great save from the scrap heap. one of my customers gave me an 1870 Kubota lawn tractor that hadn't run for over 5 years when our 316 Deere puked it's kohler motor. 3 hour on a Friday afternoon and it's been cutting grass all this season, all it needs now is a new oil pan gasket sometime this winter as it's started leaking. To be honest thats the only machine a customers given me that was actually worth the time bringing it home and fixing. The other stuffs been a free scrap removal service for them when I really get into looking at it ! Kinda thinking the people in your new home street are either going to love you fixing broken equipment and helping them out with repairs or hate you for bringing "junk" home lots of times and putting it in the driveway LO.L. Thanks for the video, Take care
Mann , i Brought 2 of those back to life , they are german mowers , still one of the strongest one's from the 2000's. Mowers that survive longer than some cars ,and they still provide parts.
Thanks again for the upload!
I even think this had a motor swap in the past , i thought the 13/102 was for : 13hp/102 cm mowdeck
I don't know why, but there something about you that's special . You find old junk bring it home and a little squirt here and tap there and Whammm ? Thanks, we all love it, Thanks, See Ya Texas
I do not presume to teach grandma how to suck eggs, so a couple of points from experience. i) It is worth drilling a hole, tapping it and fitting a grease nipple on the blade bearing housing. Just make sure it points in the right direction when installed. ii) A larger hole on the cutter deck fitted with male hose fitting. When flushed, use your sucky-blow to dry it, then a dribble of your favourite no-rust goo, also with blade/s spinning. Wet grass clippings are almost as bad as cow shit and fertiliser for rust. You know all this, Marty, but someone else might take a tip.
Your videos always deserve a like, but you especially earned one by squishing those wasps. I hate those damn things.
Peek-a-boo to you to young man! OK Marty now you've got a whole extra hour to the weekend what other project are you going to find yourself ;-). Jim Bell (Australia)
You look like a proper Dad on that mower!
i also enjoy servicing garden equipment during an air raid.
I hate Wasps too over here in the UK. Love your collection of bargains. A lil bit of work and you prove that things can be achieved, nice one. 👍👍🤜🤛🇬🇧
Well done Marty........Again.............
When that siren went off at first I thought you found a novel way to bleep out swearing. Lol. Have a great day.
What was it? I thought that was an air raid siren
Here in Kansas, US, they test the same sounding sirens on Mondays at noon for the tornado sirens. I'd be interested in what those are for there.
siren goes off to warn the volunteer fire brigade that theres a call out
@@callumharvey842 that's really interesting, but seems like overkill. Lol
Ours rings 7 noon 6 fire and tornado
Strangely enough I live in central England and in the late 1960's we had a part time fire service. Subsequently we used exactly the same system. The siren was used to call the firemen to the fire station.
I remember "helping" my Dad when I was a tyke. He will remember things like this his whole life. With the wasps, though, I'm afraid I would have grabbed the gas bottle with a spud and singed the whole mower!
God Bless the Children!
Can't beat a good find that can be fixed up and used.
I have an MTD LF 125 that still works exellent to this day!
As per normal, Marty doesn't give a tinkers dam about ascetics. Never ever removes rust or even pressure wash anything, never mind a little paint application. All that matters is that it runs. Each to their own.
Nice justification to the missus at the end.
Nicely done Marty, I’ve had the great pleasure of visiting your country, I met a few like minded Kiwis who would much rather rebuild than discard and repurchase.Keep it coming Mate.
I had a similar model and the grease nipples for the “blade bearings” were accessible from the bottom.. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ah Sunday morning coffee with Marty!
1:07 Marty will be fixing things, even when the bombs start dropping.
The air raid siren, yes I thought that too. This is not London during WW2
Usually a siren to call in the volunteer fire fighters in smaller towns in NZ.
Maybe it was a COVID alert LOL someone on the other island had a minor temp so they are shutting down the country again.
In all seriousness,I’m curious what the air raid siren was about.
@@_chipchip our hospitals struggle with a boozy Friday night so sadly lockdowns are our only real option
@@_chipchip It was a joke, dude, remember humor...? LOL
We used to drill a hole in the side of the bearing housings to put grease fittings on the mowing decks.
I laughed out loud when you first started using it on that tiny strip of grass. I didn't think it justified the need for a ride-on mower.
Aahh Marty , another great vlog , ( jokingly ..) could you make them longer , I could watch you for hours on end , pulling things to bits , fixing them and finally driving or operating them , much to my amusement and awe . I am so glad you are a fellow Kiwi who has been handed down the ability to fix things with a bit of ingenuity and number eight wire , but it is a lot easier when a great store franchise offers you a full range of their fine products to help you and deservedly so . Cheers mate .
Uhh ohhhh New Zealand ran out of abandon excavating equipment in the Forrest .... poor MartyT has no more challenges. So out the kindness of his heart a neighbor offered his old mower he doesn’t use since buying that zero turn last year just for the video. God bless his soul, he was thinking of us!
Tusen takk for god underholdning. 👍🤗👍
I bought a MTD in 1995 and it is still running good till this day.
I'm surprised how much I LEARN watching these videos, I don't own a car, I have never worked on one, but now I'd bet I could at least tell if it's infested with wasps or not.
You're a better man than I am...there's no way I'd put that much work into an MTD machine. :)
3:44 Simultaneously, all over the world, Marty's fans uttered the same phrase.😆
LOL!! 👍🏼👍🏼 I keep a can of WD-40 handy when working around the house, not to lube stuff, TO KILL WASPS!!
@@09FLTRMM77 Another commenter mentioned aerosol brake cleaner, I can confirm it works very well
YESSSSS! My feelings exactly.
I enjoyed your partners cheerful agreement at the end. Which we all know is not the end of that conversation. It usually ends up being you congratulating yourself on a job well done followed
by cheerful agreement. Then asked "If your done messing around with that. You need to fix/replace 'insert word here-------->___________________ any appliance/my car/house/anything' now."
1:07 memories of the movie „the myst“
Nice lockdown project there Marty.
Have a drive like that on a wood latte. Works great. Nice work Sir
Some volunteer fire company have the same siren in the states
YOUR a good bloke !! Love from the UK !!
You always find the best "junk" to work on and play with!
I'll pass on the wasps, as well... I can deal with spiders and snakes but not the flying stingers. Nice find here... I did a similar mower back in the 80s, even replacing the tires to a tractor tread to cope with the rougher terrain on the rear reaches of the property. It was all belt-driven, as well, and I recall replacing a pulley and several guide-pins (located outboard of the pulleys) that were worn and allowing belts to jump off. It's rather satisfying to bring something like this back to life. Thanks for a nice flashback.
Good one. Looking forward to seeing more of the little bulldozer.
I need to scrape the slippery layer of pine needles off my 4wd track with the dozer, might as well film it
Came for the wasps, stayed for the maggots.
seeing the son get involved reminds me of working on the old houseboat with my dad, good stuff
You are starting to have a good inventory of Suburban Home Owner Toys. You are the pided piper of broken machines.
Lol is that the warning Marty has new toys alarm? 😂
Saint Marty, patron saint of the hopeless cases, pray for us!
I would say you got lucky with this lawnmower.
@1:07
Better run mate. That siren in the south pacific can only mean Godzilla is comming to town.
Enjoy your videos, you truly are a very skilled man.
Ah, the Mustie1 of New Zealand! I would suspect mice. Might be a good idea to pull the blower shroud and diverter tins to make sure the engine is cooling properly.
Another pile saved from scrapping. Your little helpers are awesome especially the one that made sure the camera was still filming.
Just a little overkill for that yard section by the picnic table 🤣
The mowing deck comes off easily making the drive components easy to get at. Check under engine cowling for wasp and mason bee nests amongst the cooling fins, they build them in there and if not cleaned out the engine can overheat.
These v-belts can take quite a beating, had a Bedford CF long time ago, with the replaced and misaligned generator the belt had ran 2/3 of its way inside out, kept running like that for over 400km on the Autobahn, before I could replace it...
Great job on that mower, thx for showing!
:-D
That siren is exactly like in the movie The Time Machine!
Seems so easy for you. Nice job.
Ref the merchandise idea top seller for me would be a pair of MVG’s - Machinery vision goggles that detect all these parked up non-starting projects you bring back to life. I cannot seem to find any bargains in the UK :-) All the best to you and your family - stay safe but keep uploading! Dave
I think the reason we can’t find any in the uk is out gardens are usually too small thanks to greedy developers putting 6 houses on one plot👍🇬🇧
I have a fond memory from 45+ years ago, when my Grandfather let me mow a lot (50' x 100') using his riding lawnmower, like yours. It was getting dark, so I turned on the headlights to finish mowing. Let your kids mow a safe area of grass at night w/ headlights on, to give them fond memories like mine!
Mrs T needs lawns mown, goes on facebook uses network of locals to find abandoned mower for Marty to fix............................. Nec minit lawns mown :)
u rock mr kiwi! if your ever in TN you have a friend!
The vanguard is probably the best mower engine you can get. Built by mitsubishi for briggs and stratton. Japanese reliability and quality with american parts service!
Bro since I been watching your vids I had stripped and rebuilt 2 chainsaws, replaced items on cars, mac gyvered projects around the whare without a welder which was needed, 2 microwaves, 4 slice toaster, built and remodeled garden shed roof, extended top verandah and spouting, modified some gym equipment, and now finished on 2 leaf blowers both goin one needs primer pump, and fixing grandsons toys and teaching him as well. Lock down keeping me useful lol
Awesum work Bro churr
Marty´s wife decides to supervise after the mini digger lawn incident, at least the mower didnt chiv up the grass.Looks like a bowling green now!
Great video. That air raid was at a rather inconvenient time for recording audio 😀
@@JohnSmith-yv6eq You must be fun at parties 🙄
“ It’s not in working condition “. Marty T “ Hold my Ata Rangi Pinot “. Man of culture you truly are…….
Most ride ons you can drop the whole deck and drag it out from under the mower then there should be grease nipples on the ends of the blade shafts
9:51 your little boy, had me 😂 😂 😂
Maaate, Something soothing about getting a ride-on working well.
I learned a few things today :-)
I paid a few hundred for a similar machine with a side thrower deck, Same controls just older.
Id been looking at buying new but at 2 grand for a cheapie I went the 2nd hand route instead, splurged on a Cup holder and a year later the old 8hp Briggs gave up the ghost (Well threw a leg outta bed actually) which vindicated my 18hp big block conversion lol.
This led to Belts, grease, de rusting, new fuel hoses and control cables but the battery box under the seat was too small for the big banger battery so I temp strapped a car battery to the left mudguard after uprating the battery cables.
It still look terrible with the original owner doing a bad bad paint job and the front cowl with the headlight is cracked and cable tied in a few spots BUT she cuts my half acre into a bowling green finish from 6 inches high and means im not pushing a mower for 4 hours sucking in engine exhaust. (Which makes my Pall Malls taste awful)
Paint and body will be next after the Spring service and grease n oil change and im thinking Polestar Blue with Fat GT stripes.
Next job however is an Amber strobe on a stick for when im mowing the road reserve and remounting the car battery low on the rear where some optimistic designer added a towball mount.........
More Traction cant hurt and a lower center of gravity is kinda important too.
Haha nice
Check out Mustie1 for some long videos. He’s not a kiwi though….
@@ronanmc2112 I used to but he isnt my kinda fixit,
