I'm sure I'm not the only one saying you should react to the Top 50 Marks and Top 50 Goals of all time. There are a few videos of both on UA-cam.

104,000 people watched my team, Collingwood win the Grand Final on Saturday. If you have the opportunity to watch it, you should. It was a great game, wish Kiss entertaining the crowd pre- game. I enjoyed your reaction, thank you.

A lot of Americans who see Australian football for the first time comment on the lack of protective equipment. If our players wore protective gear it would reduce injuries, but would also dramatically slow down the game. Players run several miles in each game and, even though it's a winter sport, they work up quite a sweat.

100% Sue. I've played the game for 20 years and would love to be the only player out there with no pads.
Give the fastest man on Earth a bunch of bulky pads and even I'll laugh as I run past

My partner has a seat at the Grand Final today and my grandson is dancing, with others, at the pre-entertainment on the footy oval just before the game, right in front in front of the band, 'Kiss'. What an experience for them all ! There is another more modern introduction to AFL named, 'A Beginners Guide To AFL'. AFL is older than all the sports you mentioned. It was inspired from an aboriginal/first nations game in the state of Victoria called 'marn grook'. Some players can jump to big heights without using the body of another player. There are Australian-American amateur football teams in the USA. There would be information about where they are etc. if you are interested in playing the game .What makes this game really interesting is the randomness of the ball bounce. Players have to be alert to that at all times. These AFL footballers are top athletes with the tremendous athletic ability of strength, agility and stamina. Glad that you are enjoying our Aussie sport !

G’day Brandon, some videos to watch are greatest marks and goals. Also there are many videos of individual players highlights. Eddie Betts and Buddy Franklin would be two good ones to start with. Highlights of Grand Finals such as 1970 and 2018. Have fun searching videos out. Soon you will have to choose a team.😂

Any contact accidental or deliberate with an opponent's head at any time is penalised with a free kick. All head contact video is reviewed post-match and results in $ fine and or game/s suspension. Depending on severity of any deliberate contact with opposition players head can result in the offending player sitting out (suspension) for the rest of the season and sometimes into next season.

The record attendance is 121,696 people for the 1970 Grand Final, there's more seating and less standing room now so capacity has fallen to around 100,000. Collingwood pulls the biggest crowds and has been involved in the top 5 highest attendances of all time and regularly brings a million people through the turnstiles each year, their average attendance per game is a little over 80,000

Great content mate and respect your willingness to understand our game. The commentary near the start is a bit misleading in that the game is 'now' played professionally by 18 teams in the AFL. The facts of the matter are that the VFL broke away from the VFA in the late 1890's in order to become a professional sport. Also and more importantly is that the AFL is simply the flagship competition of the game called Australian Rukes Football and the game is not actually called AFL. On that note Aussie Rules is played by thousands of men, women, boys and girls of all skill levels all over Australia for hundreds of clubs in a good few hundred leagues. You can play this game from Auskick at 5 years of age to Masters with the oldest current player at around 80.

1:07 what a kick indeed. That player who kicked that goal from about 70 metres out - that is Dustin Fletcher, father of Mason and Max Fletcher who are currently playing in the NFL.
Dustin played 400 games for the Essendon Bombers in a career spanning 22 years from 1993 to 2015. He holds the record for the most number of games played by an Essendon player, and I'd argue one of the best full backs for Essendon. I started watching and following footy in 1993, and "Fletch" quickly became my favourite player.

I highly recommend watching the highlights video for the round 16 matchup between Essendon and Port Adelaide, highlights are usually shorter videos so better for reacting, it's was also one of the more ridiculous games of the year that ends with a player having a shot to potentially win the game with a shot at goal after the siren, highly recommend it!

The beauty of the AFL is that there's a role for all sizes. The smallest player currently in the AFL is Caleb Daniel at 5'6. He's a defender but rather than playing one on one, his role is to use his speed, agility and precision kicking to gather the ball and run it out of defence and deliver it up the ground to a midfielder.

  • @dangermouse3619
    @dangermouse3619 9 місяців тому +2

You don't have to bounce the ball but the ball has to touch the ground every 15 yards or refs generally count 15 steps. But in wet weather if the ground is soggy the ball might not bounce so well so the player can bend down and hold the ball and touch the ground so as to keep on going.
Also if the ball gets kicked out of bounds on the full it's a free kick to the other team from where the ball went out. Also if you kick the ball and it hits the very outside posts it's deemed out on the full too and no points are given. It's a free kick to the other team .
If the ball is gone over the boundary line not on the full it's a throw in from the ref. The ref stands where the ball goes out and turns his back to throw it over his head back into the field where the players are and they then have to try and get it however possible.
Rugby league followers like to call AFL aerial pingpong. 😜

Check out "Best of the Decade: 2010-2019 | Spectacular Marks | AFL" - A "mark" is just what the AFL calls a catch or "Eddie Betts - The Pied Piper" he was only 5ft8 and one of the best forwards when he played (retired end of 2021).
Checking out game hightlight from this final series would be awesome so you can see the atmosphere and game play but AFL account strict on those so you'd have to put up something to block or blur the image

Fans and players are generally not keen on adopting pads or helmets; they feel without them the game plays faster and with more excitement. Players have to be reconciled to the idea that they're going to get hurt, but not to mind that as being a part of the game.

if you can find coverage of the grand final, i would watch highlights of a game rather than individual skill packages so it will help you watch the grand final, try the miracle on grass, there is a 5min 45 sec video you could react to, or even better for you a 33min video you could just watch which would give you better context of the overall game, welcome to the best crowd sport in the world
