A comparison between bikes that belong to the same category would be more useful. The full sus bike is much more trail oriented. Still, it's a very good video!
Hard Tail all day long I’ve had full sussers before they are to much maintenance riding a hard tail you have to get your lines correct if you mess up you know instantly
Great video. I find hardtails better to work with, yeah, there are things you might not want to do during a descent but picking good lines or managing technical trails works the same. I send it with no worries in the gnarliest of roads.
The Bossnut isn't available anymore but Polygon made the frame and they use it for their own branded Siskiu bike. That's one of the few to come close to the MTR for this sort of money.
I've got 3 Boardmans....CX Comp (2014), Team 29er hardtail (2016) and an ADV 8.9 gravel bike (2018) and they're all bloody good for the money. All of these, however, are like Trigger's broom now as pretty much all the bikes (apart from the frame, forks and headsets) have been upgraded/ changed as parts wear out....Even on older models the welds are smooth and they look cool all on a 1x system..... As for these bikes tested, it'd be the hardtail for me everytime.....better components and 1x12, although Deore is very good indeed and 10 speeds are decent....and most of the trails around here (Peterborough UK) is hardtail/ gravel bike territory..... As for a full susser, I use a Calibre (shame about the popular Bossnut) Triple B (2020), which has slacker angles than the old Team 29er I'm running and is more comfy but way slower.....This does the gnarlier/ rough local trails way easier than the 29er and gravel bikes....
I got the mht 8.9 ages ago and love it. Weak points are rear hub isn't serviceable so needs changing at service time also the frame mounts for the gear cable outer don't have good tolerances so causes poor shifting but easily fixed by drilling them out and running an outer all the way from shifter to rear mech. Other than that it's a fab bike
Not on mine it didn't, and the local bike shop who's been fixing bikes for 40 plus years couldn't find one either. When did you change it on your boardman 8.9 Was it this year, maybe they make them differently to last year? Please let me know how you managed it
I have that boardman hardtail. overall I'm happy with it for the low price but I wish I got the medium rather than the large for tighter turns and I wish the hardest gear was harder.
You can simply swap out the chainring for a larger one, cheap and easy. And the turning probably has very little to do with the size of the bike, it's almost always a matter of technique and bike setup. Even the longest downhill/enduro bikes can be effortlessly steered around the tightest turns, if the rider knows how to do it, and the bike is set up properly.
In this comparison I would say it was more question of geometry, probably would’ve been more interesting to compare the full suspension bike with the Canyon Stoic 2 or the Marin st Quentin 1
I bought a voodoo bizango pro it's great for the cash shimano hubs, thru axles front and rear, modern geometry full 1x12 speed shimano plus decent enough brakes well happy with mine until i save up for a good full sus.
Yea i got my Voodoo Bantu i think is 2017 but bought it in 2020 from Halfords and it's good bike....long not like my Siskiu 2021 ful sus large frame feels short....but Voodoo is qoute mmm maybe heavy depends of your condition legs con.......but this bike in video looks well i said no and it was 1400£ in 2020....looks heavy and it is.
Ha I thought that too, feels like the video was meant to soak up the clicks of undecided cycle to work types. I have been in that position and have always played it safe with HT but on the trails almost everyone seems to have full sus, leaving me wondering if I made the right choice or not. Based on this video the full sus looks like more fun, and at that price you will be facing plenty of compromises on either bike. So maybe I'll go full sus next time 😀
What do you think? Are you more interested in a better spec on a hardtail? Or does the 8.6 look good to you? Let us know in the comments!
Hardtail💪💪

i would allways prefur the hardtail
Hard Tail all day long I’ve had full sussers before they are to much maintenance riding a hard tail you have to get your lines correct if you mess up you know instantly
Average full sus over Semi-top end Hardtail anyday for Trail riding.. Both have their perks and both are nice bikes in their own right though
Great video. I find hardtails better to work with, yeah, there are things you might not want to do during a descent but picking good lines or managing technical trails works the same. I send it with no worries in the gnarliest of roads.

The used market is mental at the minute. You could get something pretty special that's a few years old for a grand.
That hardtail looks nice the other silver bike looks heavy. Was looking after him full sus but i bought Siskiu D7 instead.....nice video as always!
i have the boardman mtr 8.8 and i really cant fault it. Excellent bike.
I'm honestly impressed by the amount of time and effort that you put into these videos, Keep it up as always!!💜

What do you mean not serviceable? Its gotta be cupncone or sealed bearings, both are serviceable
@@janeblogs324 I mean the freehub cannot be removed as soon as you get dirt down the back of it, you're stuffed
@@olivera6666 I'm very certain a 10/12mm Allen key from the nds will remove it. Everyone copies the old shimano design

I have the 8.6 and really love it,great review.
Great content as always.

Agreed.

I got the new 8.6.... Two-month-old and fly/s down hill, go's up easy as well
Nice video as always!
I would choose... the bossnut! Disagree on brakes though I'd take the tektro over sram level every time
In this comparison I would say it was more question of geometry, probably would’ve been more interesting to compare the full suspension bike with the Canyon Stoic 2 or the Marin st Quentin 1
Very, nice video, I own MHT 8.9, and I can’t find out what is the biggest chain ring I can put on it.
Any idea?
Is the boardman mtr 8.8 good or not
I have an mtr 8.8 and i think its a fantastic bike.
Fantastic value for money. Can these be bought in Spain?
I bought a voodoo bizango pro it's great for the cash shimano hubs, thru axles front and rear, modern geometry full 1x12 speed shimano plus decent enough brakes well happy with mine until i save up for a good full sus.
I've been offered the full suspension one for £600, only been ridden twice, is that worth it, currently riding a Whyte 605 29er
It’s not really comparing like for like. Looks as if you tested an xc bike on a trail against a trail bike?
can you get a boardmen bike in the US?
I'll take the budget full sis
When did someone start using cockpit as a descriptive word, sounds odd on an open bike.
I still cringe at colourway and saddle. I don't ride a horse
Obviously there isn't a full sus for 1000 anyway. Hardtails make you better and hardtails give you the full trail experience.
Full sus is better for everyone.
Nice
And today's video is sponsored by......Halfords!
Lots of bikes with more up to date geometry and better frames without welds filler
Yea i got my Voodoo Bantu i think is 2017 but bought it in 2020 from Halfords and it's good bike....long not like my Siskiu 2021 ful sus large frame feels short....but Voodoo is qoute mmm maybe heavy depends of your condition legs con.......but this bike in video looks well i said no and it was 1400£ in 2020....looks heavy and it is.

the hardtail reminds me of the 80s Raleigh bomber..
Anyone make a good fully ridged for £600 to £1000 ?
Decathlon makes some pretty good XC bikes in that price range
Voodoo bazingo
@@arrang_f3413 thats a hard tail
Save your money with a rigid single speed
Bro the mtr is $2000 not $1000
Kinda sus
SUS
😳
Ah bikeradar, just sterling and dollars, no Euro viewers???
I think it's a total unfair comparison. Get a better hard trail that's more compatible. Not cool guys. 😑
