You mentioned the rear shock still being too soft still but you rear spring looks to be just tight enough for it not to slap around. You should turn the spring screw in/tight the spring. Making the spring shorter which in turn making it need more force to compress the shock. Not needing to get a heavier spung shock. Hope you try this and find the rear "stiffer".

Soo fu***** sick man!!! I got goosebumps watching you riding this gnarly dh track I'm so invested in this Marzocchi project.. Maybe because I still bomb my old Bomber Z2 😁
Coming from the MX world it's weird to see people talk about how they need stiffer springs in their suspension in order to avoid bottoming. The spring should not be responsible for the damping or bottoming resistance on any competently designed suspension - that's what the hydraulics are there for. Figure out your valving, use a different weight oil, mod your shim stack, whatever. Trying to dial in damping and bottoming resistance using stiffer springs is only going to destroy your small bump compliance via the shock being oversprung, less sag than you would normally want, etc.
that is a good point, I have to agree, I guess with the Fox Van R shock, it has no compression adjustments and inside the suspension place put in the 'firm' compression valving so it seems like that is as much as it will go!
I didn't expect to watch the whole video yet I enjoyed every second of it. I ride an '05 six (original owner!) and it's funny to see the similarities with the boostmonster. some of the frame parts are the same along with the measurements.
I used to run a SuperMonster on a modified Santa Cruz Super 8 with 11.78" of rear travel. It was awesome! Old Marzocchi forks rule! Long live the Monster T's ✌️🤓👍
Amazing video and bike, I was waiting for that steeper gnar at the end! 👏 Maybe that new shock has a heavier spring? I wondered if Cane Creek's Valt springs would help, but I don't think they are long enough? 🤔 Have fun!
Wow! I bought my 2006 Team DH white Norco back in 2006, and custom built it at the time all best bits. I still have it and I’m ashamed to say I’ve never used it! It was a revelation to see a familiar shape A-line on your thumbnail. I will follow and subscribe Bro. Norco for ever.
I suppose getting used to hitting gaps on a pogo stick will take some getting used to! This is an incredible build though man and cant wait to see you put it through it's paces!
Hey Jordan, another variable to play with on the shock would be bump rubbers. You can get them with so many different force-travel curves and you are independent of the spring rate. In car motorsports they are used quite extensively to tune the handling with high downforce cars. Fun project!
I like your idea and all your attempts to improve. I would let my fork re-shim for more rebound damping and the rear for more compression damping. Enjoy.
Quick suggestion, you should see if there are any frame builders out there that would build a frame around this fork and shock combo? Imagine this bike but with with a proper amount of reach with a lower bb, it would be insane!
Wouldn't a lower BB greatly increase the risk of pedal/crank strikes when using 300mm travel? That's nearly 12". Like a motocross bike! If I were going custom, I'd probably lean more toward 250mm travel with 29" in front with 27.5" rear. Help smooth things out without needing such a high BB.
@@ions82 yeah very true but as long as it was at least optimized for that stroke of shock you could at least have a slightly lower bb especially since Jordan was complaining it didn't corner well with that high centre of gravity
If you are still having issues with the rear suspension, getting it dialed. I’d get a Fox Float x2. They are rather easy to find, considering bikes like YT Tues come stock with it. There are a ton on pinkbike and other marketplaces. Hope this helps you!
You could try to make a dual rate spring using the 450 and 500lb, so you can replicate some progression in the suspension, saw this in some UTVs but never on a bicicle

I don’t understand how these guys get any training done between injuries. I don’t ride MTB, I only have overuse injuries and it’s still bad enough.
I just put 29 forks with another 20mm travel on my 27 trail bike and it’s so much better. Also bigger discs.
Your bike looks like an absolute weapon.
Yes! Really dig how technical you got about setting this bike up. Great video bro!
Beautiful locations, most of which I had never seen before.
you built an awesome bike my friend! great job! 👍👍👍
We all love the build ! Keep it coming ! So cool man !
It’s so cool to see a regular person innovating more than all the big companies
18:45 Low fluid or high fluid can affect rebound for sure, you wanna make sure that you have the right amount of fluid in there, SICK BUILD BUD !
I hope Bender sees this
Reminds me of Josh Benders old bike. Old school cool.
300k!!!!!!!!!
Incredible build man what a piece of DH history you've made here!
Pls respond I love your vids I have watch your for 4 years
Damn that bike is jus…. Sick n amazing looking!!
Sick project! Please, more content on that monster! Would love to give it a spin!
I got this same bike for 600 dollars from a friend and you have given me a new perspective on this bike I might start using it some more
Personally I think the 450lb looked more balanced
I like your idea and all your attempts to improve. I would let my fork re-shim for more rebound damping and the rear for more compression damping. Enjoy.
Quick suggestion, you should see if there are any frame builders out there that would build a frame around this fork and shock combo? Imagine this bike but with with a proper amount of reach with a lower bb, it would be insane!
yes I totally agree, I would love a good custom frame
YESSS THAT WOULD BE SOO SICK
A nice costum Nicolai bike would be awesome
Wouldn't a lower BB greatly increase the risk of pedal/crank strikes when using 300mm travel? That's nearly 12". Like a motocross bike! If I were going custom, I'd probably lean more toward 250mm travel with 29" in front with 27.5" rear. Help smooth things out without needing such a high BB.
@@ions82 yeah very true but as long as it was at least optimized for that stroke of shock you could at least have a slightly lower bb especially since Jordan was complaining it didn't corner well with that high centre of gravity
Love this series. I want this bike

Lol… watching UA-cam because my left wrist is broken… welcome to the club, healing vibes to that guy. I love this monster bike ˆˆ
Im sooo jealous wanna trade ????
Love how you keep this history bike alive. Still love my modernised Demo 9 though.
my man jump in Nepal and land in uk 💀💀💀
😂
If you are still having issues with the rear suspension, getting it dialed. I’d get a Fox Float x2. They are rather easy to find, considering bikes like YT Tues come stock with it. There are a ton on pinkbike and other marketplaces. Hope this helps you!
300mm of pure awesomeness!
I can already imagine you having a blast on rock gardens
You should totally race this thing, that be so freaking sick!!! 🤙
You could try to make a dual rate spring using the 450 and 500lb, so you can replicate some progression in the suspension, saw this in some UTVs but never on a bicicle
I have a transition blindside with 66, it makes me feel nostalgic looking at these older bikes :D
