Mark this is unreal!!! I grew up in Ireland watching loads of Des Bishop but kind of stopped seeing him or whatever once UA-cam took off! This is sick! Thanks for always getting such amazing guests bro. 🇮🇪💚
I just found your channel, and saw some of your other videos, but this right here, is one of the most undiscovered omedians in America. His story, the little documentaries he did about going to China, living and working with the people at the restaurants.. the fact that he can blend into Irish, American, and Chinese culture, shows what an absolutely smart, funny, observant man ,he is. Good pull for this interview... i hope to see Des get bigger and bigher in the comedy community. Gotta love someone that puts a ton of brain power into what hes doing. Great interview... hope anyone seei g this comment goes back and does their HW on the content hes already produced. And his special in NY, is one of the best standups in 2 decades.
I worked across the road from Abrakebabra in a niteclub around that time, probably sending those drunk fucks over to annoy Des. That episode was really embarrassing, the drunk lads were horrible to Des and the staff. I felt bad for them and he humanized the staff in it. His "No Béarla" series where he moved to an Irish speaking region in Ireland is really fantastic and his committing an entire year of his life to it was a level of immersion you just rarely see. As he tells it - it was a fuck you to all the people who denied him his Irishness. It's interesting how he explains how he ended up in Ireland. It was usually something he glossed over with the joke "I was an alcoholic so my mother sent me to Ireland", so it was nice to actually hear it in more depth what happened. Des is a funny guy and I'm glad to see him have some success. I saw him do standup here live around 15+ years ago and he was very good. Newgrange is really interesting. It's actually over 5000 years old, older than the Pyramids. If you check google images for old photos of Newgrange, you can see the entrance basically hidden under a mound of dirt. A few years ago we had an unusual drought here in Ireland and due to the recent abundance of drones, a lot of people started seeing these circles in the grass all around the country, especially near Newgrange. They were the remnants of old passage tombs and forts, where the moisture trapped in the soil made the grass above it just that little bit greener - so the outline of it stood out. Tons of photos online if you're interested.
Marky boy strikes again great pod definitely gonna check des out being an irish american kid from queens myslf i love his vibes great pod mark your the best

1:46:41 @markgagnon it's called a punt it's a line ball so they huddle around the ball to block opponent from touching it or to catch the ball of it starts rolling the opposite direction of the punt
@@CampGagnon Mark! Sorry for the late reply - I think a more salacious/negative title would be best. Lots of channels with half baked content get more views than they should because they make content about "the dark side" of this or that and use thumbnails that show people reeling in disgust or surprise. Your content is clearly very high quality might as well use some clickbait to draw people to it - they won't be disappointed.
Eh, just because you REMIND them of Bill Burr doesn't mean you're anything close to it. If you're the color purple and the "farthest" they can reach is, "you remind me of green", then that's as far as that person can reach. But no, you don't remind me of Bill Burr, you're closer to Chris Distefano in terms of voice and accent only, yes, you're on the loud side - even for someone who grew up with loud people - but no comic can touch you with a ten foot pole (call you similar) because Bill Burr & all the east coast comics will never have your international cultural depth of experience.
We need highly motivated individuals who are willing to do more than just complain online. It's why I started my own local chapter of (ADV) "Allied Democracy Vanguard". Every freedom loving country needs people willing to form Grassroots Organizations/Movements. 1) To ensure that our politicians aren't putting the interests of the CCP above our own countries. 2) To support human rights, and preserve freedom & democracy around the world; from the CCP-PLA's undue influences and harm. 3) To elect politicians who will be on the right side of history. 4) To develop tough on China legislation. 5) To expose and weed out CCP corruption abroad. 6) To foster the fraternity of NATO friendly Nations. 7) To stop China stealing land & resources. And take them back. 8) Require the CCP to pay reparations for the pandemic 9) ....anything else necessary This is a conversation we should all be having with each other, friends, and neighbors.
Des is one of the goats over here in Ireland 🇮🇪 good to see him getting success in the states. The special was magic

Already the most interesting comic of 2024. (Original everything-voice, perspective, etc)

Des Bishop has been a big name in Ireland since the 90’s and his recent special on UA-cam was excellent, hopefully it will catalyse his US career
Cant stop watching! Des is such a great guest! 🧡
