Thanks for inviting me on to your channel Bo - so excited to share this video! If you have questions or comments leave them down below and I'll do my best to answer them!
Thank you for that video, it answered a lot of my questions about integrating the deluge in a small studio. How easy is it to arrange a song on the deluge? I own a digitone (and a Neutron and 0-Coast) and find the pattern-chaining of the digitone not very comfortable. At the moment I am looking at the squarp pyramid or the deluge as hardware sequencer.
@@mosesve1 Deluge is perfect for building songs and then sequencing external gear to play them. The Arranger view is like a linear-view in a DAW that lets you place pieces of your song and lay them out over time. You can then record automation too. Or you can play live and have the Deluge record what you do into the arranger and then go in and manually fix up pieces afterwards
Ηello SynthDad and many thanks for this video.
A quick question, let's say you're using the Minilab to improvise with a Deluge built-in synth sound and wanted to change to a Digitone one, mid-song - is that easy to do? I know it's possible with the Digitakt.
Again, thanks a lot!
Great video, thank you
@@jeff.burchett I did it a while ago when I was trying out the 'Captain Chords' plugins to send MIDI to the Deluge. Once you get the template set up it's really easy
The deluge is a awesome creative machine that I can’t get enough of. I think it’s the best thing out there.
Boards of Deluge 5 was just released. Some people say the synth engine is not very good, but those patches just sound amazing imho.
Totally agree - the BoD patches have redefined what the Deluge can sound like
@@SynthDad Thinking about getting a Deluge, as a BoC fan, this is tickling me to pull the trigger...
SynthDad is fantastic. Thanks for shining a light on smaller creators
Great vid. The Deluge is my favorite piece of gear, and amazing as the heart of a hardware setup!
This video was so perfect for me, thank you so much! Even more convinced now that I want a deluge
Great video, clear and useful info with no filler content. Thank you!
This is exactly what a was thinking about for a couple of years! I mean Deluge+EC4+small modular! Killer combo!
Thanks - it's one I really enjoy playing with
Super video! Thanks very much. Always well explained and demonstrated. 🙏
SynthDad !!! nice video 👏👏👏 ! Thanks both of you.
Nice work @SynthDad 👍 I love the Deluge for its ability to slot into a complicated studio setup like an exoskeleton or act kind of as a Rover: to go off and explore and be portable and mobile. There's really nothing like it 🙂
👍👍👍Nice to see Synthdad on BoBeats channel and also nice to get a refresh on some parts of the Deluge manual. I have still many unused features to learn on my Deluge. But I’m using more features now than say a year ago. So I keep learning.
This is perfect! Was wanting a video on just this. So many channels review the deluge but fail to really showcase all that it can do in practice.
Bo, that beach looks cold. Great video and guest.
Thank you Bo, SynthDad and Thumbs up! 👍
The deluge is such an incredible device, by far the closest experience i've ever had to Ableton Live in a standalone hardware unit. Despite having no screen and being quite deep its one of the most intuitive and simple to program devices. Synth engine isn't incredible but it gets the job done.
Something I don't see often is the Deluge's arranger mode. It seems like it can be used to compose and finish full songs, much like one would do in a DAW. Have you done much of that?
@Snake Plissken The Akai Force has been the top item on my list for a while, since it seems like the closest one can get to Ableton without actually using a computer. Perhaps one of these days I'll actually get one...
Agreed, phantastic sequencer and extremely capable sampler, average synth engine.
@@ToyKeeper the arranger mode can often end up being more annoying than useful since you always have to start from the beginning of the track, if you're fine tuning something near the end of the track you can't move the play head to the end and just finesse that bit, you have to play again from the beginning.
@@aaroncarter8845 Ouch, that's worse than I thought. I'm glad I went Force instead of Deluge. I've been really happy with it, and don't need a computer for music at all any more.
Very informative . These videos are going to cost me money lol 😆 great show thank you 😃
I think the Deluge is really a box of magic...with special inner hidden powers...Great video....people like you and bobeats make new user's lives a lot easier in the world of vodoo cloak and dagger synths and technology.
Much appreciated.,
Thanks for your videos...
Jim
thanks much, synthdad!! once again, another clear, thorough & well-paced breakdown for the people. we do appreciate it greatly.
& thank you, bo... the summertime host with the most.
Thanks for watching and glad to hear you found it useful!
Wow!!! As the proud owner of a Deluge, and only 2 minutes into the video, I get goosebumps!!! What a brutal beat at 0:59 - I get the feeling this is one of the best Bo Beats feature / guest videos ever!!! Love and light from Khao Lak, Thailand 🇹🇭❤️☀️🏖🌴🥥🐘🌈
Found the deluge with cv to modular very useful and got me started. thank you
Thanks SynthDad! :)
Super nice thanks!
Cool, it's SynthDad :-) Deluge is a great box for sure.
Great video. My Deluge has been in its case for a while since I've been using the Roland Verselab MV-1 and Novation Circuit Rhythm, both of which are fantastic. Maybe I should give the Deluge a spin again soon 👍🏻
Brilliant, thank you!
More in depth stuff like this pls! (:
Not needing to build a synth setup. Don’t own a Deluge. Ok let’s watch this video!
Careful, that's how you get GAS.
@@hiding_my_name So true. GAS is a good term because all that wasted time/energy leads to making music that stinks.
Same dude
Have not played anything for 8/9 years
Now want a deluge bad
Still have some old gear around
So little time so many noises to make
Lovely, i wish i had one. ❤️✌️
Great video!
Great tips and tricks!
That was a handful but very inspiring.
Well, Bo, I saw your video for the Deluge three years ago, literally minutes after I'd placed an order for the Roland 707. Ten minutes later, I canceled the order and bought the Deluge without hesitation - and it changed everything for me. Unreal box. Absolutely love, love, love it .
Glad to hear it! Mc707 is good but Deluge is… its just a very well made and unique device
Ha. I knew you couldn't stay away for long Bo. U love it too much Bro 👊💪🔥🙏 and we love to watch you. Coolest swedish dude on UA-cam 🔥🙏🔥
Well Synthdad came out of leftfield great to see new content.
Well done , lot’s of info, nicely explain. I am using the deluge as a brain to control a yam yc61, a moog matriarch, and the vermona perfourmer via 6 midi with all 6 exit goung to a behringer umc 1820, then to AUM on ipad for treatment on each voice back to the 1820 card and to my monitor. Love the hybrid of AUM for effect, and deluge is a perfect brain with kit, synth, and so much more.
That sounds like a very nice setup - AUM is something I need to explore more
Hey bo, it's the german psychotherapist again! I remember beeing on the edge with the deluge, and your thumbnail kissing the deluge was the final notch i guess i needed! 😅 now all Songwriting i do goes via the deluge!
We love a groovebox with cv outs.
Great video Bo. Looks complicated i subed to Synthdad Thanks.
Cool video, just subscribed to synth dad's channel. Thank you for showcasing new youtubers to check out Bo! Stay classy, and I hope your vacation is going well!
Thank you for subscribing :)
I appreciate the video. I just got the Deluge and I've been brainstorming how to best integrate it with my other gear. I have a Macbook, Ableton Live, Push 2, Akai Force, Guitar, Mic, AFX Station, and a little mini midi keyboard. It's like having 3 DAWs, which I think is awesome even if redundant. Idk, any tips or suggestions you might have would also be appreciated.
Very good...
Really well put together video. You briefly mention the Torso T-1. Multiple sequencers being driven with, or by the Deluge is an interesting possibility. Is it possible for Deluge to mutate sequences ? I have been experimenting with the Qu-Bit Bloom, so my mind is thinking along the lines of a "Fractal Sequence". Anyways, this is a very compelling video, thanks for putting this together :)
Thanks! The Deluge firmware is always being updated but as of right now it can’t mutate sequences in the modular sense. Of course it has step probability so you can get some randomness. And the next firmware update will add Euclidean sequences too
@@SynthDad Your video on using Euclidean patterns with the Retrokits rk-002 and a Digitone, was simple, informative and inspiring. I immediately got a cable, and was able to follow your example. Great video :) Keep us posted. You have good presentation skills :) Distilling what could be mind boggling complexity into an easy patch :)
@@Emily.risney great to hear!
Awesome tips and video, thanks @SynthDad! Still struggling to set up Deluge with multiple Midi controllers / synths via USB hub. Is it just a matter of using a model like yours (Advent?) or do I actually need a Midi USB Host (like the Hobbytronics shown at the start of the video) for the Deluge to behave properly like a Midi host? Thanks in advance!
wow thanks guys! question: after making a track on the deluge, can you multitrackrecord all tracks in a DAW?
Cool video! Can you sequence more than one external synth on the deluge?
Yep. Unlimited (or as many midi channels you can juggle)
We need the following video : best groove box for the beach.
Could you live loop the modular signal in an audio track on the deluge?
I've been trying to set up Gate 3 & 4 to the clock and run - to use with a 1010 Bitbox Micro. It's not really clear in the Deluge manual how we do this, so if you have some time, maybe you could just put the paths?
If I understand correctly, is it(?):
SELECT/Shift > Gate > Out 4 > followed by > TClock > Output > PPQN
Thanks in advance.
You would not use the Deluge to record Vocals like with the MV1?
Can you use a usb hub with the midi controllers and the computer?
Wait Bo ! You have beaches in Sweden ? ! ?
Thank you both for this video it's been very helpful for me. However There's something I can't really understand: I've been trying to use my Akai APC40 to control both the Deluge and the synths I have connected to the Deluge. Everything goes fine with controlling the Deluge parameters, but I can't map the external synths parameters using the Deluge's midi thru. Also, the APC40 seems to have some sort of pre-mapping for the other synths too, and apparently, I can't put it in a "blank" state. I tried everything and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
The Deluge is certainly amazing. At awe with how much one can do with it. Been looking at getting one soon. The only consistent neg I have seen in reviews has been the screen. I wonder if Synthstrom will upgrade the unit in the next year or so!!! If so, I'd put off the purchase.
Good overview. I wonder how did SynthDad get letters and numbers printed on the Deluge's pad? Are they self-printed?
It‘s because there is a hidden Computer Keyboard for loading and saving Content of the memory card.
@@frankiee.1747 thanks. Actually, I have an old version of the Deluge where the keyboard keys are not printed anywhere and I wonder how I could get the same keys as SynthDad, rather than buying a new frontplate with the keyboard shortcuts printed on it. I can't reasonably name my patches/kits/songs and that would help.
@@ashtomtube oh, sorry i misunderstood this. Imho these are adhesive letters, Self made. I have an overlay with a small letter index below the buttons.
Hi - I bought small 5mm adhesive letters from Amazon and placed them on the keys. Not perfect but it works nicely for typing on the keyboard
@@SynthDad Thanks for the info! Does it change the feel of the keys?
Thanks Bob?
you cant even enjoy your holiday in peace! i thought you were taking a break lol
These videos are all pre-made so i can take a break :-)
@@BoBeats yeah i get that, but you arent taking break, thats my point. you even replied to my comment in 6 hours lol
taking a break as best I can. Its not easy tho
@@BoBeats i understand bo haha. one love brother
What is the make of the green jacket you have on?
no idea, some random rain coat i got
Wow thats too complicated for me… but Its pretty.
Yo where you get your loops from?
For this video I used some from Loopmasters
@@SynthDad Who?
@@robarkskillie960 Who as in which sample packs did I use in the video?
hello MR BEATS, where is everyone getting the deluge pad with the printed letters and numbers from? ie, ...Q W E R T Y does anyone know???
I think its just different models? Like, earlier and later models? Not sure
@@BoBeats It's transparent decals, confirmed by seeing other angles from his other videos.
The theory is great. My only issue with this is everytime you set something up and hit play...it sounds like shite...timing in particular is all over the shop
...Laholmsbukten?
Deluge's synth engine sounds like a doorbell
Found the person who only uses presets
You should check out the ‘Boards of Deluge’ synth presets - they show the power of the Deluge’s synth engine and modulation matrix.
Lmaoo. Wtf. You funny asf. The synth engine is actually very very good. So many dope synths. I've made some sick Multisamples. Boards of deluge 1-5🙏🏿🩸
Sold my Deluge, I didn't like the synth engine. I am happy now with MC-101 Roland ZEN Core sounds, amazing!
@ 13min in you suggest, "Now remember, this is the drum rhythm we programmed into it"? No, I don't remember as you go too fast, have edited too much. There is NO section about programming in drums. I would love to follow this; but I cannot. I have watched this 20 to 50 times, keep expecting a different result -- that if I keep watching, I'll get it, eventually. But I don't. Argh! You are speaking on a 2nd grade level and a Graduate level at the same time. It doesn't work.
