    The people that you saw at 3:20 are my brother, husband, our friends and their dog on a camping trip last July! We live in Salt Lake and camp at Christmas Meadows every year! I'm glad you got to enjoy one of our favorite places 😊
    (we didn't have much luck with the fishing this time around)

      Now this is awesome, what a small world and so glad that you commented with the backstory. It was funny when they showed up because of the timing. They had no clue my camera was set up but it’s all good haha. Tough to hear about the fishing! I saw several along the path but didn’t have a pole to make any casts. Christmas meadows is a wonderful place and I’m glad y’all visit often!

I live in southern Nevada and out here the place to paddle is the Colorado river below the Hoover dam. Man, that "cabin" on the river is my absolute end-game life goal lol. On a river in the mountains with those kind of views. You just dont get that out here in Illinois, where the highest point in the state is called Charles Mound and looks just like a tame sledding hill lol. Also, a little inflatable like that seems like the way to go if you wanna explore tiny rivers with just a couple inches of water! That thing is sweet!

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  8 місяців тому +2

      I agree frozty! A cabin on a river sure would be nice. Although I’m conflicted if I’d want Arkansas or Utah since winter shuts everything down for a long time out west. But the summer sure is intriguing! The inflatable has been a great tool to explore new water that’s for sure. Not a replacement for my main kayaks but a fun tool on vacation no doubt

    • @Frozty
      @Frozty 8 місяців тому +3

      Oooo yeah I could do Arkansas. Or southern Missouri. Or western North Carolina. Or Utah still and I just deal with winters, I think I'd be alright as a Northerner already lol. Really just the dream of having rivers within a short drive that allow camping along them. But until that day comes, you and you videos are helpin me keep the stir-craziness at a minimum, I love every single one.

The Devils at Pafford is 95cfs right now which is super low. Pack ultralight and don't bring a cooler, dehydrated meals only. That should help keep weight down since you'll be dragging a lot. You'll be hiking plenty so wear shoes not sandals! We went at 180cfs which felt perfect. Could've used more but overall just fine.

    Gatewood can you do a full video all about packing food! Please it seems like the only obvious hole in your video lineup!

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  7 місяців тому +1

      Maybe I’ll do a dedicated section of that on a gear list video! I pack a small soft cooler with ~6 frozen water bottles to use as a substitute for ice. That’s what keeps my burgers, lunch meat/cheese, fruit and beverages cold. Then in another sack I bring buns, tortillas, breakfast bars, and coffee making supplies

    How did you get back to your truck?

    • @GatewoodBrown

      I walked about a mile back to the car. Typically I target rivers that meander a lot along a straight road so I can get 2mi of paddling and 1mi of walking.

    You have no idea how many miles I put on my vehicle a year traveling to the Utah Backcountry. About 14,000 last year. 🥴 Well, I also travel to the Upper Green as well.

      Holy cow I'd say you've covered it all! But then again, Utah is massive and mostly off grid so there's probably a lifetimes worth of traveling to do in that state along. I can dig it!
