When we released our original Compressor back in 2011, it quickly became a favourite among guitar and bass players alike who were searching for something more than the typical oversimplified controls found on most compressor pedals. Now, based on our users’ valuable feedback, we’ve taken everything great about our original Compressor and made it even better.
On top of the full range of features and controls normally only seen in high end studio equipment, such as input and gain reduction metering, independent attack and release controls, a mix knob for parallel compression, and an external sidechain insert, we’ve now added a ‘tilt’ tone eq control, and a selectable sidechain high pass filter built into the Compressor’s detection circuit. Oh, and the whole package is now half the size and available in two snazzy colours!
Ear phones engaged and eyes closed. Took me to some wonderful places, and , I don’t even own a passport.
Demonstration, top shelf.
I'd been using a diamond compressor clone for years but I wanted more control over the headroom etc and the Empress Mkii was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I love mine and it will never leave my board. I still use the diamond clone for stereotypical hard squashed optical compression but the Empress can do that also. The Empress really can work with ANY tone anywhere in the signal chain. It just makes everything better. Especially time based modulation effects like delay, reverb, chorus, vibrato, tremolo etc etc. It just .ales them more focused and it helps them stand out a little cleaner in a mix.
I love mine, it is so amazing, it adds the perfect amount of goodness to all of the essential areas, the degree of control and sculpting is A1, I cannot believe how much character it has added to my overall tone, way to go Canada!
Great intro Mike, love it 👍
Great vid. Love to have seen you use the Empress with a decent acoustic
I've got 2 great compressors, the Way Huge and Seymour Duncan, owned a few others too, the Exotic and a couple of others, but to me, this looks like a holy grail both for its wide range of controls and its transparent sound. Looks like time to do some trading in and make this a lifer pedal.
Finally in a compact form!
just another manic Wednesday
Love mine!
The Bangles
Prince
Thanks!
Nice country touch @ 1:20
Cool pedal - especially that side chain switch! How quiet is it with gain after it?
Intriguing pedal… and an odd choice of intro song to “Mike Hermans”-ify. haha
Mike, great as always. Where do you rank this up against a Cali76?
This is transparent and the Cali76 colors the tone a bit. imo these are the two best compressor pedals in their category (transparent and non-transparent) because they have blend knobs so they aren't as "squishy"
@@mjs2016 right on. I actually ended up getting the compadre and I love it for the same reason. Thx.
I have this pedal. Do you know if the threshold is unchanged or if it is tied to the input knob?
The input is the threshold
Not a noob pedal
I’ve always hated compression, but I like to give Mike a view anyway
I have never heard a better Strat sound. Mike, just what Amp are you playing through?
2:03
Suhr Strats are magical.
You could've asked Susanna if she'd sing along... just sayin'
Nice pedal but it lacks in the connections. A combo xlr/jack it would have been more usefull...
Cool Video thank you but the cali 76 CD is the best on the planet.
Nice pedal but I don't think the extra lights, 18v and ~$40 dif make up for what the Becos CompIQ Stella offers as far as range of application or fine adjustment. Also, it just looks like a cable tester that should be sold at Home Depot.
Yeah, just looked into that pedal and looks pretty great too. Brett's review of it shows that.
This is not beauty contest
