Hey, still new to the whole pedal thing. do compressors essentially make your signal less dynamic?
@@jgoods2101 Hello jgoods, totally valid question. It is possible to adjust the ratio and threshold and mix of a compressor so that there’s no perceivable change in dynamic range regardless of how the player attacks the instrument. Most use compressors to make their dynamics more controlled. Where the lighter touch sounds clearly and the heavier touch has a less hot output. There are still dynamics in general and especially if there’s an unaffected sound mixed in parallel.

This is the best pedal compressor I’ve ever found. The versatility is amazing
Cali76
Really appreciated the 'tutorial' on compression from Mitch. To see and hear the effect of changing the various variables
Thank you
Gold standard pedal demo. What a pro! Thx.
just lovely playing too !
Just ordered one from y'all! I can't wait to give it a whirl when it arrives in a couple days
I have the first version and it is simply excellent.
First like - first comment - yeah!!! That’s some SWEET piece of gear! Sweetwater rocks!!! Thanks for this cool review 🙏 Greetings from Coconut Homes Resort 🌴 🥥 in sunny Thailand 🇹🇭
Evens out the annoying imbalances in even the best p/up/amp set ups at low volume. When you crank your little tube amp, it compresses and sounds better than at "little room" volume. A compressor brings that to very low-volume-level playing. Which is good! You can then just mess around to freak out with other effects, huge overkill etc
You can get 'em fairly cheaply. The downside is that they can introduce colouration to your sound and when you dial in for a long sustain, you can hear it repeatedly stepping up the boost. That's why the Empress cost a bit more - it's studio quality and doesn't mess up your core sound.
great job, not sure if I should buy this one or the keeley pro
Gee, I've got a few compressor pedals, already. Maybe I need just one more. 😁
Average bass player here. Really enjoyed learning, while listening to some fantastic guitar playing. I understand ratio and sidechain compression now.. thank you.
I'm torn between this and the Cali76. Seems like I'll be ok, either way.
Which you bought?
@@najshon I ended up with a Zoom B6 module and use the compressors in it. Some are really good and I can move them to different locations in the signal chain.
Nice video! I am wondering if the output also output the signal from the sidechain insert in case you want to blend the input and the insert in one track? Thanks in advance
Thanks for your message, hope you’re well and safe. The sidechain insert signal doesn’t have a separate out, it is merged into the main out of the pedal. Any blending happens between the comp and the additional device you connect.

I just like the name lol
I think he meant aurally not orally for your ears.
Audibly
no comparaison with the dry signal? looks good, but no idea what it is capable of
"Orally, with your ears". That's Audio my dude lol.
