We first met Rikarin when she was a Japanese high school student participating in the once-a-month Harajuku Fashion Walk event. In her early Harajuku days - nearly 5 years ago - she most often dressed in super colorful Japanese decora or fairy kei style fashion. Having attended international school, Rikarin stood out from the crowd as one of the only Japanese kids who could speak English and easily make friends with foreign Harajuku Fashion Walk participants. Her bright sunny personality and sense of humor also helped her to make fast friends with people from Japan and around the world.
The famous Harajuku kawaii brand 6%DOKIDOKI has been Rikarin's favorite fashion brand for as long as we have known her. While her style has evolved from decora over the years, Rikarin continues to incorporate kawaii elements - and 6%DOKIDOKI items - into her looks.
After graduating from high school, Rikarin attended one of Japan's most prestigious universities and held part-time jobs at several popular Harajuku shops. All of these experiences - aalong with watching lots of other kids arrive and depart the street fashion scene - have given Rikarin more perspective on Harajuku. For the last year, she has been working on a college project documenting the Harajuku experience.
As she enters her final year of college, Rikarin has begun Japan's traditional career-hunting phase. For most students of top schools here in Japan, that means dyeing your hair black and wearing a black suit while attending nearly indistinguishable interviews at distinguished Japanese companies. Rikarin is hoping to break that mold, working hard to find a career that both pays the bills and allows her to celebrate her love of all things colorful and happy.
Harajuku has been a key part of making Rikarin the person she is today. She's sure that she'll keep the spirit of Harajuku alive inside of her forever - no matter where life may take Rikarin in the future.

She's so sweet. It's hard because sometimes the corporate world can be very cold, and judgemental. I hope RikaRin stays True to herself, and has much success in the future.

She's so motivational really.. And so brave
It's nice and inspiring to see people who know who they are, or know and is trying to be the way they desire to be. She's cool. And I wish that more of the world, especially where I live (America), was more accepting of an individuals individuality (appearance-wise), not just in works of art/abilities. I understand the world's perception of professionalism in the workplace, but I feel that if more people could dress the way they wanted - no matter their occupation - besides facing some discrimination (because it happens) - individuals around the world would eventually learn to become more understanding and accepting of one another. That appearances aren't everything; that it's what's in the inside that counts. That professional doesn't have to be matching uniforms, or a bland suit and suitcase - it should be "who you are".
Rikarin!!! That’s where you’ve been? Missed you!! I think you should get some sponsorship and UA-cam channel can be your job and you can keep your style!!! Rikarin you shine, you have colour, you have vibrance, and a great zest for life and it shows through your style, awesome positively and fantastic attitude ❤️it. ❤️👍😁
I feel the same! I have been working at my current job for a year now because it is my first job and a job im comfortable at and I wanted to stay at one job till I graduate high school. I looked for a job that accepts piercings, tattoos, and colorful hair. This job allows all of that. I was told that I will not get through life with all these things and that jobs wont accept these things but I am going to stay doing what I want with myself forever because that is how I want to live and be happy. I hope others do the same!
I honestly wished I could join this type of fashion it would be so much fun but sadly I’m not bold enough to do so 😭
This is my fear of going to sales job eventhou I don't live in Japan. I'm hapa.
