    It's just wild to me that you can end up literally halfway across the world, and still find athletic sweaters from US schools

      She really is top notch. A lot of content creators can learn from her. I don’t think I’ve ever watched one of her videos where I wasn’t completely immersed in the wealth of knowledge she provides. She’s always incredibly respectful to the people she encounters on her outings and you can tell she puts A TON of work and research into her content. She really is a fantastic creator and 100% deserves her own show on TV.

    You have a great attitude when it comes to cultural differences, and I love it! I remember reading about different cultures in school (social studies, i think) and the biggest thing that stuck out to me was my teacher explaining that foreign cultures aren't WEIRD. They're just different. Understanding that distinction really helps me to keep an open mind . I always keep that in mind when watching videos like this. I love seeing you do videos like this, and I hope you do more.

      The thing I recommend for getting confidence is just fake it until you make it and slowly interpretate some of the Japan fashion into your normal style more and more. For example if you like Decora, instead of going full out the first time just throw on a colourful jacket or some bright and colourful hair pins onto clothes you would normally/comfortable wear.
      But I agree with you on going there someday. The fashion styles are one of the many reasons why I want to travel there.

    • @BubblesTonight
      @BubblesTonight 6 років тому +4

      The stores in the video are the same price point you’d see out of street fashion brands in the west, like Supreme. I’d say the outfits ranged from $200-1000 which are pretty reasonable prices considering most of the style is handcrafted. Ground Y is more of a designer brand though so compared to typical street style...the prices would have been up there with like Gucci ($500-2000)

      Well, I guess that's your taste. To me, it's not boring it's just different. And not everyone in Tokyo wears this, like they said in the video, it's more of a model style and less of a casual, everyday look. But yeah, the way they dress pretty cool.

    • @Leah-yh5sj
      @Leah-yh5sj 6 років тому +175

      @@Justanidea5976 oh I totally see what you mean! To be honest, my original comment was just a condensed, simplified version of my thoughts that I put out onto the internet, but I have a more complex view of fashion overall. As far as the street clothing that like, 95% of people wear goes, I really do like Western fashion (specifically American). But when it comes to the subgenres and the kinds of looks that you see on runways, I feel like Western fashion is just kind of weird and not put together. Whereas I feel like the kind of looks Safiya wore in this video have a purpose, albeit and complicated/unique/crazy one. Does that make sense? I'm not always great at putting my thoughts into words.

      @@Leah-yh5sj Yeah, I gotcha. I really like their style of clothing, especially the pictures. I never really liked runways because they are boring, you just see a person walk back and forth. So yeah, I understand. I guess what they're doing isn't necessarily new to the west (cutting and mixing up clothes) but the fact that their putting their own unique spin on it makes it really cool to see. But there is less variety and openness of clothing in the west and you have to go to small shops to get the stuff close to what you see in the video. But I get what you're saying.

      you have to differ between american and european fashion as well though. for example the runway outfits of brands like Armani, Dior, Versace and co are very much put together within the collections.
      Japan and Korea are like a few seasons ahead when it comes to streetwear but they lack the classical sartorial suits and outfits most french and italian brands do.
