  • This is episode eight of the ADHD Nerds podcast. And today I'm meeting with Karaminder, who is a course creator, entrepreneur, and sort of a modern day philosopher. In this episode, we talk about some of his theories on how the human brain works and what his experience has been like with ADHD.

I rewatch movies because... I don't remember watching them. Sometimes I remember watching them, and remember the feeling, but I still can't recall any plot apart from one or two random scenes. Subtitles are scary, cause they make me read the movie and I have no idea what's happening most of the time. But play it in 1.5 speed and then I can finally follow the story 😆

The fact that you stuck with it and found a way to make it enjoyable for you…
      You, sir, are winning.

Hinted at ADHD/ADD at 31, proper diagnosis at 51. Explained a lot about my early years .. smart, never studied but got B+ or A's on testing, IQ scores (70's/80's kid) made the teachers scratched their heads, easily bored, issues with impulse control (yeah, I had 15 aquariums in a bachelor flat) ... I found my MLC in the film industry. It's been painful being home from work from injury. "The Hurculean effort to get moving again" .. nothing resonated with me more.

I'm almost 30 and just realizing I may have ADHD-a lot thanks to your videos. A test to diagnose costs several thousands of dollars where I am, so for now, videos like yours are invaluable to me and have helped me bring so much closure / allowed me to finally be kinder to myself. It's so great watching these interviews because I get to actually see faces of real people who could be just like me, and it helps me not feel alone in my own little chaotic world/brain. Thank you so much for the work you do on your channel!

About tests in school, my strategy was just min max. No homework, got bad grades for random things, but got the highest grades in tests, so it balanced out to a decent performance.

Exams (,,tests) freak done people out, and they thrive on take home assignments / homework. I am not one of them. Exams had no distractions. No interruptions, and they did not invade my personal time after school, when I was exhausted and deeply resentful. I was brilliant at exams. Homework is evil.

Can you say the name of your shiny objects more than once? I always seem to miss them, just get distracted at the worst moments. Edit: I rewound of course -- it just seems to happen every episode. Loved this one :)

So happy to have discovered your channel and podcast. Just a few weekse ago I started to suspect I might have an ADHD brain. All these years, I seemed to have a completely wrong idea about what ADHD is. It's healing to hear others' testimonies. Thanks for making this content.
(On a side note, and speaking as a senior sounddesigner, you may want to look into your audio/video-synchronisation. Your video lags behind the audio a few frames. Or at least that's what I'm seeing at my end.)

I rewatch movies for comfort. Harry Potter, Eternal Sunshine, and Corpse Bride. I just added Friends too. Watched it for the first time ever I’m 2022. Nothing soothes my anxiety like a hot bath and some Harry Potter ❤️

I started getting to grips with the idea that I maybe probably likely have ADHD (not diagnosed yet because German healthcare) in early 2023 and watching Everything Everywhere All At Once was a punch in the heart I was not ready for. I've never felt so seen by a piece of cinema. I've been wondering if the same is true for many in the ADHD community, and hearing Jesse's glowing recommendation supports that suspicion.

      Have you seen, “Limtless” yet?
(Only relevant if you’re able to get medication for ADHD)

@@karaminder No, hadn't heard of of it, thanks for the recommendation. Maybe I'll wait though, I don't have access to medication yet and maybe watching it would make me a bit sad right now.

I got an A on my French test, because I remembered everything from the lecture. The teacher graded heavily on test scores, so it didn't matter that I did zero homework. I don't know how I passed history. Because it was all "Take this home and read it, and we'll discuss it in the morning."
    Opens book.
    Falls asleep.
Has no idea what the class is discussing. Doodles renaissance paintings on notebook page.

This was the 1970s and 80s. There's no way that they would have given me the diagnosis that corresponds to kids who parkour off the walls and wiggle in their seats. I remained perfectly still while staring at things roughly toward the front of the class.
And whether you were a "personal responsibility" parent, or a Natural Foods parent, you were suspicious of pharmaceuticals.

It's gonna be a long path to therapy and meds that work. In the meantime, coffee as a coping mechanism.

Nah I don't want to be happy, that would kill my ambition. Being content with my (very bad) situation is not okay.
