- Here is an instrumental violin cover mashup of three songs: Somewhere Over the Rainbow (by Harold Arlen), What a Wonderful World (by Bob Thiele as "George Douglas," and George David Weiss), and Blowin' in the Wind (by Bob Dylan).
This violin cover version is heavily inspired by the Hawaiian ukulele player, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole (may he RIP). I've always loved his combination of Somewhere over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World because it combines a song of longing for a place that isn't currently present (Somewhere Over the Rainbow), with appreciating the world that currently exists (What a Wonderful World). I thought it would be interesting to try to mix in Blowin' in the Wind since there are so many unknowns right now with the virus pandemic. I think combining them sort of worked! Sort of... I played Blowin' in the Wind in a mixolydian key, but the other two are in major keys.
I hope everything has been okay with you and your friends and family. We're all navigating a new form of normal. This video encompasses some of the things I've observed in Colorado during this event. I definitely miss my family and friends, but now is not a safe time to visit them -- at least not yet. Things are slowly reopening over here, and although there are concerns of another potential outbreak, it hasn't happened yet (knock on wood!). I'm hopeful we'll be able to still keep flattening the virus infection rate curve with physical distancing.
This video took quite a long time to film all the different pieces. While filming the part in the city, a photographer from Alpine Music Photography stopped and offered to take some pictures. I was in a rush to get a few takes before sunset, and he was really patient...but then he took a few pictures! I've never had a professional take pictures of me like that, so it was really neat. Seeing how nice his pictures are made me realize how much much much better things can turn out when there is help with the tasks I'm not really good at. That may seem super obvious, but it always seemed too expensive to invest in having professional help with some tasks, so I instead struggled through trying to do them by myself. However, after the virus stuff mellows out and things start to go back to normal, I think I'm finally at a place with my music to start looking for more help creating some of these songs and videos. I'm excited!!! For me, it's definitely something to look forward to -- and I think it's important to always try to keep at least one thing in mind to look forward to. :D
So far, I've been okay during the pandemic. I did dye my hair lots of colors, but it's a temporary dye with no bleach lol -- I kind of like it! I might dye it again sometime! :D My family and friends have all been safe, too, and it's been fun to have Zoom calls with them! I feel lucky to still have an income, and have been able to work from home. I miss folk music sessions, but it's going to be a while before those are safe to come back. =(
I decided to get an antibody test a few weeks ago, but still haven't gotten the test results. Nobody knows what it might mean to have COVID-19 antibodies, but I was hoping to donate plasma if I had them... There must be a massive testing analysis backlog for it to take this long, and that's even with the test costing $120! I wonder if the backlog is accounted for in the USA's testing numbers? The administration of the tests is really fast, but the lab analysis and data entry seem to take a really long time...

For the last week I've had your videos running continuously while I work. 3. I'm wearing work shirt, my hair is comb and I'm in my pajamas's bottom because you can't see below my chest level on zoom :) 4. The scenes on the hill with the sunsetting (sun rise?) in the background highlighting your hair....excellent.
