  • One of the Air to Ground weapons the F-14 can carry is The Zuni 5-inch folding-fin aircraft rocket (FFAR). It was developed to replace the high velocity aircraft rocket (HVAR) used in world war 2 and as part of its design it’s modular and capable of using different warheads as well as different fuzes.
    The Zuni rockets are carried in LAU-10 pods, each carrying 4 rockets. The pods can fire in either salvo mode or ripple mode. Salvo can be setup to launch one rocket at a time, but also all of them or something in between. You can add ripple configurations into the mix as well if you need to cover a larger area.
    In this video we take a look at how to use the Zunis and the various configurations you can have Jester configure when using them.

    • @eddievhfan1984
      @eddievhfan1984 2 роки тому

      You can designate a ground target or IP (for offset bombing) using the TCS, but as far as I can tell, you can only adjust the vertical aim with the TCS, and horizontal aiming must still be done with the aircraft. Normally, target designation is done visually with the HUD, and the TCS just happens to be slaved to the HUD datum mark or target designator in that circumstance.

      I thought it was different because of the station as well. I feel the ZUNIs on the fuselage give you that almost “hollow hum” from the vibrations (maybe?) coming right up the airframe into the cockpit where as the wing stations are far enough out that they don’t have the same effect. I told Jester to select Zunis and nothing happened even though they were equipped. Your video was not helpful at all. I hope to see a better tutorial, because this was just a waist of time for me. Sorry.

      Ag mode on hud, master arm on, jester select zunis... this was more a demonstration of the weapons and options you can use with Jester. It goes along with the manual, infact it is embedded in the manual. That way when you actually read the manual to learn how to configure your plane for air to grand attacks, when you get to the chapter about zunis you can watch this video to accommodate what you’ve read. Sorry it did t work out that way for you

      Ok, I am sorry if I was a bit salty before. It was not a great experience for me to watch the video three times just to find out that you did not take a few seconds to mention anything about the aircraft setup. If I had time time to read the whole manual, then I would not have to watch tutorials about the basics any more. I hope you will consider this as constructive criticism. Have a nice day.

      They probably went withe the “if its was possible its in. Let mission makers deal with historical realism”.
      The Tomcat was designed to replace the Phantom even as an air to ground platform. As such it was configured to carry the Zunis even if operationally the need to use them never materialized and pilots were never really trained to do so in an extensive fashion.

      Designed and Employed are two different things.
      Why do you think it took nothing to configure the F-14 for ground attack?
      Read the story of the project or a Natops manual.
      It was designed for air to ground but as you correctly said the navy had enoug A-6s and A-7s to do the job allowing the F-14s to be used only in an air-to-air role.
