Disclaimer: This tutorial is not perfect, I'll probably re-do it at a later date once I get more familiar with the aircraft and its procedures but I hope it helps you guys out. Please forgive any mistakes.
This is seriously one of the most brilliant Case 1 landings I have seen on UA-cam, can't tell you how many times I've watched/studied this. One thing that blows my mind is how the heck do you get on speed and trimmed out so fast after completing the initial 180 break back towards the carrier?! You get dialed in so quickly and so precisely! Is there heavy use of DLC, or is that purely from trimming and managing throttle? I always run into the issue with struggling to keep the nose from taking a huge dive and losing too much altitude after completing the turn and trying to get on speed. Never quite sure when to get back on the throttle and how much to give. You do it flawlessly man, so many things happening in such a short window of time! Truly impressive! Cheers!

Gotta love all the info the reapers put out, just frustrating how you can't get through a video without finding 3 mistakes pointed out in the comments. Doesn't help that half the videos are shot in early access either.
In the fleet out on deployment or doing work-ups with the CvBG, most of the time there will be a guard ship stationed 1000yds directly aft which in addition to being there to pick up anyone who goes in the drink is also there for a quick indexing while landing. You should be coming out of the 90 just forward of the duty guard and is especially useful while doing quals.
Wow, your tutorials help a lot! Much better than other tutorials (looking at you Grim Reapers) I still only catch 4-Wires, but hey Jester and I are still alive
I found this tutorial informative and easy to listen to. The humor caused me to chuckle in places! I think a perfect combination of info and fun. Thanks for creating it!.
You seriously need to upload more content. After your Harrier landing tutorial, you're my favourite "instructor" in DCS. We NEED more content from you! :)
6:40 That very important wing sweep as you pass the ship...... the chic on the deck might see it........ man that is hilarious :) I've just begun to trial the F-14 once again; your talent as an instructor is huge. One of my favorite documentaries of all time is "Speed and Angels" (available now on UA-cam), about the last two US Navy pilots trained to fly the F-14........ as I'm following your tutorials I appreciate even more the challenges those pilots faced.

You just helped another newbie learn to Case I. Brilliant video tutorial. Easy to understand if you know how to fly the Cat even with rookie skills. I'll be sure to share this with people who want to learn right away!
Bruhhh you make that look so damn easy and after starting dcs this weekend past I know it is gonna take a lot of practice to get to that point but this video helps TREMENDOUSLY! Thanks Mav! Keep up the good flying!
I think this is the best Case I recovery tutorial on here. I used to do these over and over with the F-14 mod (F-15 cockpit) a couple years ago, ready to jump back into DCS for the Cat. I was an 80's kid, this module is a dream
You can also see the DLC popped up in the mirrors, no need to give your neck a cramp. I give them a quick flick up and down to make sure they're operating properly while checking the top mirror myself. Great vid!
Great video, I appreciate it! Getting in speed in the downwind is the sticking point for me. Feel like I trim too much nose up and end up floating to too high an altitude, need more practice I guess
Question: You are not using auto throttle in this video correct? Also, on the final turn towards the back of the carrier how do you keep your onspeed AOA so perfect? Are you primarily managing throttle, or constantly trimming as well to keep the E bracket centered? Much use of DLC? My issue is that right at the last second when I level out from the turn just as I'm about to reach the deck my AOA goes totally out of whack. Do you have a recommendation in terms of keeping it simple / focusing on just certain control elements and leaving others alone? I think I might be messing with too many things and making it overly complicated. But at the same time, every adjustment with the Tomcat then requires re-adjustment of some other area. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! Still the absolute best Case-1 vid in the Tomcat on UA-cam, hands down!
Nice landings! I remember watching your F-18 case 1's. Looks like all that Hornet time has really helped, these landings look a lot better than your initial Hornet attempts :)
id love to see the input visualization (the ctrl+enter one). Id be nice to get a rough idea for how much power/roll/rudder is used, it'd def help me land
one of the carrier checklist landing that is missing is to turn autoskid off because in many cases it is on, beautiful video, i think im good enough already after 3400h of DCS but i always learn, i always have this habit landing to early and catch the first or second wire, i feel my landings are good controlled , centered and safe, but it is a habit that i need to change....dam i keep doing these "perfect " landings, always on speed but i have this tendency to touch down some feet earlier.
Just FYI IRL if you rested your hands on the throttles while engaged it would only take 5lbs of pressure to disengage them. It was actually a check we did often for auto throttles so resting your hands on them was probably not a good idea.
I swear to fucking neptune my AOA never stays the same, I'm gonna trim it, then 5 seconds later it goes off trim, there's gotta be seagulls playing with my tailerons or something

Serval question maverick 1 how do you maintain on speed whilst the rpm is around 90%, for at 90% rpm the aircraft would accelerate for which would rise the E bracket over over 10 AoA making it unreachable , for me is usually 85%~86%rpm 2how do you ensure stable banking and on speed while the aircraft is in 120 knots extreme low speed, and still having steady glide slope 3 the dlc is highly disruptive to aoa and on speed, but in you video, there is no such sign 4 in manual, dlc are designed to control sink rate without using throttle, did you use both throttle and dlc on on final approach? If is, how do you still ensure sinking while having an 90% high rpm? if you don’t mind, please consider remake a video that could show your stick movement as well as the mirror to help us learn about your control. you have so far the BEST carrier landing in UA-cam
- How do you set the course line (boat direction)? - So you just move the stick slightly up down left right in auto mode? I have to try that... - Except looking good and impressing the girls on deck, why manual and 68 degrees wings?
-There's a course knob on the HSD frame -Basically what we shouldn't do in the Hornet... :D -It adds drag while pulling AoA and you want to slow down in the break
I know this video is old, but it's really great to watch someone do this and have them slowly explaining things out at first and speed it up as the procedure goes on. A lot of the stuff for this procedure just barely made sense because in most cases it doesn't seem like you should have a speedbrake for landing, rely so much on weird flaps and stuff to land but seeing it in motion it makes much more sense. I know this video is old, but I do have a question. Do you possibly know why the procedure asks for wings swept back so far on the approach? Wouldn't it make more logical sense to have the wings forward for lift and to slow down? I don't know, just has always seemed odd.
You make this look easy and I feel completely incapable-Meg laughs at me every time and Joker is constantly telling me to tell his wife and kids he loves them. ughh.

Yes mate 800ft should be the radar altitude which is AGL over water. I messed up in the video and flew the Baro Altitude instead of the Radar Altitude. There is no Fly By Wire in the Tomcat but it is the same process of getting on speed as the Hornet, you slow down and trim to get the aircraft on speed at the correct AoA and use power and trim to stay on speed.

Couple of quick questions:
800ft should be AGL, and not MSL right?
Is it like the hornet with regards to keeping on speed AoA, by using trim to set AoA and using power/dlc to maintain altitude/descent? Or is that just a fly-by-wire thing?
Yes mate 800ft should be the radar altitude which is AGL over water. I messed up in the video and flew the Baro Altitude instead of the Radar Altitude.
