NICE! I've been looking forward to this "first look" Warning to those looking at these - you may have a routing issue, I'll let Mike expound on that when he does the full review. Cheers
I have the EMG SA single coil set in one of my stratocasters, and these pickups sound very similar to the sonic signature of those but with the expanded frequency response I associate with jazzmaster pickups. I like how my SA set sounds and I do like how these sound as well, but neither of them are replacements for the passive pickups to my ear. They sound different, but good. Guess I need two jazzmasters, one with these and one with some classic set.
I have almost all the EMGs on my guitars but, truthfully, for my Jazzmaster am going to stick with my Lollars as those have been set as the gold standard thanks in part to you.
assuming that these are active pickups, they sound so much more alive than any other active set i’ve ever heard. there’s not that typical cold or clinical feel to them and i’m really curious about them now
Really looking forward to the full review because the electronics in my Squier VM jazzmaster have gone scratchy beyond what a good spray of contact cleaner can take care of and I’m looking for some potential upgrades and these look promising even though I’d lose the rhythm circuit that I adore.
@@pooperofbeds No it's not! It might sound similar but still not the same thing 100%, also we're still losing this volume/tone preset inside of the guitar (Which is, for me, the best part of having the ryhthm circuit). Still looking forward to the full review tho, I might give the EMG a try :)
EMG active single coils sound really nice. I think people associate actives too much with just metal and humbuckers but the single coils get a really nice tone.
That left handed switch change has changed my life.
They call that “a stranger” where I come from
Somehow you have convinced me in the first 15 seconds that I need EMG’s!!!
I'm so impressed with them, honestly!
Can’t get enough of your teachings, demos, and coolness.
Good to see you again, Mike. Looking forward to a full review!
I wondered if this was coming. :) See you Friday!
Huh, surprisingly warm. Huh.
Slow clap* He’s back ya’ll to dispel all the myths about EMGs being lifeless. Sounds awesome.
Can wait for the in depth review, especially to see where you put the battery
Hey Mike-welcome back! You’ve been missed.
Looking forward to mor full content from you!
I too really enjoy your playing!
I'm pumped for the review, I really dig EMG's in my metal guitars.
They sound so good wth?! Never thought I'd like EMG pickups lol

Probably not gonna rush out and swap my beloved Novaks anytime soon, but these do sound really nice. I'm pleasantly surprised by how nice, even.
Great sounding demo!
Thanks, Mark!
They are sounding pretty good. Full and deep neck and really jump-out-look-at-me bright neck.

Oh you tease! Sounds great - can't wait for more. (Lighting looking fab by the way)
these make the low e string sound really bassy!
this joke brought to you by drop d
More Mike! More songs! More you! More tube! Yayayayayyy *goes Kermit crazy*
Augh! bruh such a good demo
Sounds amazing! I want to hear more! Looking forward to it and your thoughts on it.
Sounds Good 🎶 🎶
Thanks for Sharing 🎸🎶 ✌
Your playing is always so good. Do you upload the music anywhere? I'd love to listen to more
Not a vintage sound but very full. Actually has some p90 feel kind of love them
I have almost all the EMGs on my guitars but, truthfully, for my Jazzmaster am going to stick with my Lollars as those have been set as the gold standard thanks in part to you.
Damn you could do a sick cover of I might be wrong by radiohead on that neck pickup, it's perfect!
assuming that these are active pickups, they sound so much more alive than any other active set i’ve ever heard. there’s not that typical cold or clinical feel to them and i’m really curious about them now
It's so funny people call EMG's cold, then add compression to the signal.
EMG Retroactives are passive pickups with an included active preamp
Middle position sounds good but I prefer my JM neck sound more sparkly.

turn the tone to between 2 and 3 on the neck pickup, its the same thing 👍

I was expecting this to transition to "I might be wrong" by Radiohead. :)
They’re as good as you said! I bet they rip with a bit of dirt thrown at them.
super cool sound, can't wait to hear the full review! are we gonna address the hello kitty strat at all?
These pickups sound like exactly what I'm looking for! Any idea if the loaded pickguard would fit a Squier J Mascis?
EMG active single coils sound really nice. I think people associate actives too much with just metal and humbuckers but the single coils get a really nice tone.
That bridge pickup in particular sounds really nice. Your beard is also coming in strong.
Yeah, it's nice and woody! Grown out the beard a bit for a trim!
Noticed the same, surprising amount of bass there on the bridge!
can u do a review on the player jaguar please?
I love those, but giving up the Rhythm Circuit is a shame.. EMG should bring classic routing PUs, too
wow. i love these. why don’t they have a “heart ears” emoji 😍
Not bad but sounds like less sparkle than our Vintage 65 Jpickups so we’ll stick with those.
Do they chug?
Seeing as they are EMGs, are they active or just noiseless?
Both!
It has such a full expansive sound.....next demo the Hello Kitty guitar LOL.
I love that guitar
Dude could sell crap and I'd buy it
That which should not be.
