    Available as a pickup set or complete system, EMG JMaster pickups are active and noiseless while using Alnico V magnets for a classic 60s tone. The complete system involves a preloaded pickguard that contains a Master Volume, Tone, 3-way PU selector and powerful Master EQ/Boost controls on the upper horn. The upper switch and closer roller knob select either SPC midboost or full frequency 12dB clean boost. The seconder roller adjusts the master EXG Control which boosts bass and treble, providing a fat, almost hi-fi tone for either pickup! Visit EMGPickups.com for more info.

    That is a super flexible tone combination. I’m a big fan of EMG pickups and have installed them on a number of my guitars.

      Yes! I was most impressed that it still sounded like a Jazzmaster in the end. Thanks for watching!

    Seems like the PTB system from G&L just in a different switching format...

      Sort of, except the P stands for passive. These active EQ circuits are about boosting rather than cutting (although the regular tone knob is a passive high cut). I really love the PTB, especially when pairing with fuzz on the neck pickup. Thanks!

    As a Jazzmaster guy for many decades I love this. Having spent some time on a Strat with the Gilmour EMG set in it this sounds very much like that did. The mid boost got you in P90/humbucker territory.
    Very cool stuff, thanks Andy.

      Thanks for the comment! I also wanted to mention that I didn't even touch the Tone knob here - you can still get very warm tones with all the boost settings on or off.

      I spent a couple days moving the pots off-board on my Gilmour set, splitting the board in half and filing to down to fit in my body’s 2 pockets…. what a headache. This is awesome!

    This video sold me on the EMG pickup system. Never did I think I would have EMG's, let alone EMG's in my jazzmaster. I have the loaded pickguard coming in this Friday, and I'm super excited!

    I have the loaded set in my MJT JM…..and it’s incredibly versatile! I did the 24v mod battery and it’s unreal for cleans, grunge, rock, metal. You can shape almost any sound you want. Game changer setup, now I just need to route a battery compartment on the back

    What is the difference between an active pickup and a passive pickup with an onboard preamplifier? I’ve never understood what makes a pickup “active” as opposed to just amplified

    • @AndyDemos
      @AndyDemos  Рік тому +3

      In a nutshell, active pickups have much fewer winds, less magnetic pull on the strings and very low impedance. So, they require a preamp to boost the signal- the benefit being a very hot pickup with low noise and more sustain! Also with an onboard preamp, you can shape the sound more easily before it even reaches your pedals.

      @@AndyDemos Thanks for taking the time to answer! I’ve told you many times before but you are my all-time favorite!

    • @Eugensson
      @Eugensson 11 місяців тому

      Regardless of the way the guitar is made active (pickups or onboard pre), the main benefit is the buffering of the guitar signal before the guitar cable, effectively your cable stop sucking the tone out of your pickups.

    This is basically what I dreamed up a little while back, looking at the EMG site -- but they did it, and put it in a preloaded pickguard. Uncanny!
