I bought the Orange steelbook (2nd hand store 6Euro) It's just (the old) blue ray . but the steelbook is so pretty. On the back it has the full Chooce life monologue.
I've only seen that one in pictures...seems like a great place for the 4K disc to live...
Hot take: Trainspotting 2 is actually good! I rewatched it and it has grown on me. It’s quite good.

I haven’t picked this up but I’m hoping a UK label like Second Sight will release this. I expected better from Criterion with the packing and perhaps include new extra as I think every extra on there is on the previous Blu Ray release. As a fan of both the original and the sequel, I’m up for another instalment, apparently there are plans to adapt the Blade Artist with Robert Carlisle returning as Begbie.
I agree with your assessment that the movie isn’t really about heroin, it’s about the underbelly of society and I love how it isn’t judgmental about the subject matter and doesn’t turn into a PSA like Requiem does. I think this and Drugstore Cowboy make for a perfect double feature because that movie also doesn’t try to preach to the audience that drugs are bad or good, it just aims to honestly portray the characters who live this lifestyle and it doesn’t shy away from letting us know their thoughts as to why they choose to live the way they do. Enjoyed the review you guys! Keep it up!
Drugstore Cowboy is a gem... Gus Van Sant in general has become underrated over the years.
The book largely is a collection of stories, essentially. A lot of the chapters were previously published as seperate stories in various magazines in the 80's.
Was going to buy, no way way I'm having that shipped to Wales. I'll wait till they release it over here and grab it in store or a second sight version. Good review guys keep it going.

The soundtrack was larger than life, the only couple that top it I think our lost highway and maybe Batman forever or dumb and dumber but I own the train spotting soundtrack and listen to it, till I literally burnt a ring into the disc from so many plays
Iggy Pop, Blur, Pulp!! Lou Reed Perfect Day!! The editing and actors were great.

The natural lighting in the film perfectly captures what it's like to live in upper regions of the northern hemisphere. Flat, dull depressing. btw Criterion need to start producing steelbooks.

In mine, the disc was damaged with a couple of minutes needing to be skipped. ‘Course I ordered another copy, but I bet that one will turn out to be fucked, too. Same thing happened with Ex Machina. I ended up buying that 3 times before I had a working version…
One of my faves as well. Saw in the theaters had the soundtrack poster and everything. Hate the box. That’s Damon albarn from Blur/Gorillaz at the end, great song.
Matt and I had posters as well, this really was one of those immediate "oh shit, I LOVE this" kinda movies...
Which poster did you have? I had the VHS cover one I picked up at a local rental store.
I finished the book the day i was going to see Trainspotting in the cinema. Stuff in the book you just couldn't put in the movie.
The interview edits were great and the review was spot on. Approaching the history, the physical medium, the transfer, the features, really covered all the bases. It's tough not really having insider access to get these kind of reviews before release. Criterion is well and good since there's not a limited run. A review like this for something like an Arrow release might be too little too late since that shit might be long since sold out. I don't envy that aspect of what of reviews would really be most useful. As a diehard, I pre-ordered this, but if I were a more casual viewer I probably would have waited following your review. But again, I have that option with Criterion, I could have wait for reviews to come in. Where as a Film Vault review would not do anyone any good by the time your review was up.
I do not have my replacement copy yet so I will NOT watch this until that arrives. Tell me Russ, did you get your replacement? Was it still a pancake??
I did... no damage, but my new one doesn't glow in the dark (don't know how important that is to people lol).
@@russceasetheruss5360 I just received my replacement copy which is in a lot better condition. Mine does glow in the dark, though I did have to hold it up a light for about 30 seconds for that to work. So that's time I'll never get back....
I didn't pick this up. I'm sticking with my standard Blu Ray. The packaging trash. It looks like the omen complete series Blu Ray packaging. I like trainspotting it has to be in the top 10 of the 1990s.
Criterion, WTactualF? How are you still getting your ass handed to you by Region B cult movie labels 3 years after getting in the 4K game?
That packaging eats donkey ass, but I have sleeves. I'll just put the discs in those to protect them. I can find DVD and Blu-ray editions of the previous transfers to have the old color timing intact.
Pretty sure the movie is english, it not learning another language, there is pretty many countries That speak english as first language.they all cant speak British english if you want that.
They're all speaking English words, but it's the slang that gets difficult. The accent is thick and the slang is different than anything US audiences are aware of. That's the whole reason they include a glossary of terms in the books and in these physical media releases.
