    As a Scotsman I may be biased but I’m a huge fan of Irvine Welsh’s novel, the film and soundtrack. It’s a classic with Robert Carlyle playing an absolute blinder as Begbie. To say we quoted the s*** out of this film growing up would be a major understatement

      Carlyle is a legend. When we review the film, it'll be hard to contain all the one liners.

    I’m in the UK, it’s a UK rite of passage film, it is so unique and although Danny Boyle had done Shallow Grave prior to Trainspotting this launched him into the stratosphere, the performances, the imagery, the music, No one thought anyone could bring Irvine Welsh’s book to screen but they were wrong so many moments of comedy and even heart break, it still remains a 90s favourite. Choose Life Choose Trainspotting. I’m Irish so understanding it wasn’t an issue.

    Would you be able to do a video on all the different/various boutique labels in a single video covering what are the plus, minus, and unique feature of each label? An overview of them all would be quite awesome for the community.

    Visually stunning film with one of the best and most memorable opening montages of all time! Rightfully launched the careers of multiple cast members. Grotesque, beautifully shot and amazing visuals at what I’m assuming was a low budget (under $2M) and all the better for it. It’s a perfect 90’s film that had the grit of a 70’s era film like Taxi Driver.
    Oh, and that soundtrack is killer!!!!

    I’m looking forward to this coming out on 4K finally. The only thing I’m wary of is the lack of new special features. Everything listed aside from the booklet is from the older blu ray/dvd releases.

    I’m 47 and based in the UK so this is right in my sweet spot of early-ish important movies. Like you say, every student at the time had the poster on the wall and the soundtrack on cd. I feel lucky to have seen a lot of bands (Blur, Underworld, Elastics, Primal Scream and… er, Sleeper) from the soundtrack live around the time.
    There’s a funny story that Noel Gallagher from Oasis tells about refusing to put an Oasis track on the soundtrack because he didn’t want to be associated with a hobby as boring as trainspotting (he obviously didn’t read many books). He realises the mistake now 😂
    The film arrived at a great time in UK youth culture when Britain really exploded forward with new exciting music and film. And it was the tail end of the conservative government so there was a lot of hope for the future. At least for a while…
    Have you seen Shallow Grave? I remember that having as much of an impact on me at the time but I haven’t seen it again in 20 years, so maybe it doesn’t hold up as well.
    Anyway, It’s great to hear that you both love this film so much. I’m looking forward to the Criterion as I don’t think I’ve watched it since the sequel came out.

    If you didn’t know already news broke not long ago that the Irvine Welsh novel The Blade Artist has been greenlit for a tv adaptation this novel follows Begbie in his new life in the U.S trying to live a normal life….

    • @4K_Kings
      @4K_Kings  10 місяців тому +2

      I have Welsh's novels up until Porno. I actually was just taking a look at what he's done since, and I had no idea he's made so many prequels and sequels to Trainspotting, involving all these characters, including the Blade Artist. Unless they're casting Carlyle as Begbie, they will really need to find someone that can capture that magic, which I feel like is impossible.

    • @martinwilson8914

      Carlyle is indeed returning as begbie he was brilliant in Trainspotting 2 so he’s still got it.

    My 46 year old guy memory: i double-featured The Island of Dr. Moreau (with marlon Brando) and Trainspotting afterward on the same day. I still dont know which was crazier. 😂 I'll be honest i never revisited either film outside the cinema, but the memories were good. Im pretty sure Ewan McGregor penis in this was a lot of my friends first. So many people had this poster at college. Ill pick up the criterion! It made me laugh I remember that the craziest dude in the movie was like a dad with a heart of gold the next year in Full Monty

    • @4K_Kings
      @4K_Kings  10 місяців тому +2

      I'm a bad person to ask about sequels, especially for properties I really love... It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. You can't capture that magic twice. I quoted Sick Boy earlier to someone else..."it's not bad, but it's not great either. And in your heart you kind of know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shite." What were your thoughts?

    Trainspotting is a weird one for me, I realize that its a good film, but I hate watching it. I realize its supposed to be kind of gross, grungy and off-putting, and manic. It’s a masterpiece and it didn’t hit me how much I loved it and how influential it was too me (I’ve never done heroin or fallen into super hard drugs but a lot of friends and family had) I’ve watched it 5 times from age 13 to 25. I recently watched it at 30 and the closing monologue when the ending card hits with the soundtrack is perfect.
