I am 20 yrs old going to be 21 yrs old in June. I was diagnosed at 13 yrs old with High Functioning Autism; after looking to find my main diagnosis for since I was 4yrs or 5yrs old. We took some time off, because I told my mom I didn't want to see any more doctors. Asperger's didn't come into recognition in the United States unit the year I was born. Complicating it I have SPD (diadnosed at 7yrs).
I noticed my 7 yr old son does the same stuff your son does, like tapping on his forehead, randomly getting up from his seat, makes weird noises, doesn't stand in line, doesn't respond to adults or make eye contact, just yesterday he insisted he has no friends and that he'd rather play by himself at school, he has friends but he thinks they dont wanna be his friend ect. he also doesn't recognize emotion, he understand exspressions though, but rarely does anything make him sad..like his dog died
my 7 yr old son was recently diagnosed with "likely" having Aspergers. He does repetitve things, he moves around and fidgits alot, he don't recogniz emotions, he recognizes facial exspressions though, but our dog died and i had to tell him (thinking for sure he would break down crying) but it was like it didnt phase him at all, he was more interested and asking me questions, he even said.."mama that dont make me sad" as he smiled about it. He did the same when my dad (his grandfather) died.
Sometimes children fall through the cracks, or parents are in denial that the issues can't be helped by conventional discipline - and they don't get diagnosed until they're 23...or older, I'm sure.
