I would hope that they use this as an opportunity to update the draconic bloodline sorcerer. An expanded spell list and gem Dragon breath weapons would be nice. I would also be up for a draconic warlock.
hahahaha
wotc updating subclasses
@@alyceblak1524 they did do it for spore druids in tce
Gem Dragon Breath Weapons would be awesome to have.
Draconic sorcerer update might be coming with 5.5e since it’s one of the base subclasses
It still baffles me that there is no dragon warlock. I've been wanting it since the beginning!
Great point. Surprised with these Elder Dragons that they don’t have that included in here. Have we seen the table of contents yet? Maybe there’ll be a hidden surprise?
You can make it yourself….just apply the class template.
@@snieves4 he doesn’t mean a dragon who is a warlock, he means a warlock subclass that uses a dragon as a patron instead of fiend/celestial/undead/etc
As I said elsewhere, my headcanon is that dragons prefer not to be bound by anything. Especially by contracts enforced by magic. Rather, dragons are primordial creatures, who flew the skies when the world was young. When they choose to grant power, it is through primal methods. Visceral methods.
If you bargain with a dragon for power, it will respond by spilling some of its blood and bidding you to drink. If you survive - for dragon blood is suffused with the magic of raw creation, as wonderful and terrible as any other part of them - you become a Draconic Sorcerer. THAT is how the dragon do.
@@Bluecho4 yeah in my opinion it could only possibly be a silver dragon as they love humanoids. I just picture a red dragon going full rage mode at the mere thought of a mortal asking for some of its power
>Draconians aren't playable, they're just monsters.
>Me, laughing in Sidekick.
Yeah that was like, my third character ever, back in second edition.
Save it until you know whether or not they are CR 1/2 or lower; if they aren't, they can't be sidekicks.
They made them as player race(s) in third edition. All of them with female/male variants: Baaz, Kapak, Bozak, Sivak and Aurac .
Bold of you to assume thats enough to stop some people.
As a DM running Tyranny of Dragons, I am super excited about this! My players aren’t gonna know what hit them!
Same! My players are level 9, just before the first council meeting of Rise of Tiamat. This is going to be PERFECT for my campaign.
I'm in the exact same situation! I can't wait for this.
I’ve been waiting to play the re-published version for this book to come out so I can cram even MORE dragon stuff in there :D
Don't miss out on involving abishai or even Arkhan the Cruel, especially if you want to continue the adventure past the ending.
@@oOPPHOo My campaign is set in Exandria so they've already bumped into Arkhan once and got their butts kicked. I like the idea of it continuing past the end, but Arkhan is replacing the head of the cult in my campaign, so he will likely meet his fate at the Well of Dragons
A dragon warlock pact seems like a necessity now.
THIS!!!!!!!!
I'm working on one
Friend of mine flavored the Genie pact as a Dragon pact. Their vessel was a dragon egg.
You can make and apply your own warlock templates.
My opinion has long been that dragons don't DO pact magic. It's not their style. They don't like being bound by anything, even by a contract. The way I see it, if a dragon were to bargain in exchange for power, they wouldn't make a warlock pact. They would just make a small incision on their body, and tell you to drink the blood that dribbles out. If you survive the infusion of raw, primordial magic from when the world was young, you get your power as a Draconic Sorcerer.
Warlock pacts are for planar entities. For dragons, the ultimate residents of the material plane, far more visceral magics are practiced.
That Dragon Turtle is so intense in so many ways.
Oh look, the hype train. I'm so onboard for this one.
Todd: The Gem dragons will not be tied to neutrality, and the step away from alignment in D&D is one I agree with.
Also Todd: Of course, you can't play a Draconian, they're evil and borne of evil magic.
No, Todd, Draconians are misunderstood now. Get with the program.
Just play a dragonborn flavored as one lol id even ask my dm let me pop in death
So we got Feywild, Dragonomicon and Strixhaven, very very cool
I see dragon, I click. And, yay! Finally gem dragons!!
I see the ancient dragon turtle and can only think GAMERA!
I did a home brew for all the Monsterverse and used the Zaratan as the base, but this will work better :D
D&D Easter Egg: The Dragon Turtle living in the bay of Port Nyanzaru is named, Aremag.
:D
@@seanpinkey2188 Nice!
Gamera is really neat!
I've been waiting for the Dragon supplement for 5E! This is going to be an epic addition to the roster. Players beware!
Imagine if Thordak succeeded with his plans, he could have become one of the Great Wyrms that could appear anywhere in the entire D&D multiverse!
Fizban isn’t just a deep cut for dragons. He’s in the the Death Gate Cycle too.
Technically that was Zifnab. And Weis and Hickman have said that is not the same character. Zifnab is a Sartan who was a fan of the Dragonlance books before the Patryns broke the world, and in his despair went crazy and lost the separation between his past and the books he loved. Or more simply, he's a Sartan who thinks he is Fizban, but isn't.
I wonder if there will be the revised Kobold in the book? For the most part, the reception of it was positive in the community.
dragon born kobolds were so broken in 3.5e
@@aaronjjacques That is great and all, but I was referring to the UA for 5e. I do not care if a race was broken in a previous addition.
I really, really hope that Tiamat's entry/statblock is included in this book, including how she appears in other D&D worlds like Krynn
It's really exciting! I can't wait! Still want other dragon subclasses, like a warlock pact.
Think the didn't do that because it would've given a warlock subclass in 3 of the recent books
@@ccgod yeah I can see that
That was what I was looking forward to the most as well. My DM has a homebrew warlock subclass which is amazing, at the very list I hope he will include the spell list to it.
You can kind of do that with several of the existing pacts.
GIVE US DRAGONLANCE! please
Ok so ok
A dragon that exists in multiple planes of existence and is aware of everything it experiences in all of its planar forms seems like a great reason to create a multi-planar campaign.
I really need this book. Too bad we have to wait another 3 months for it to get released.
Awesomeness, and tomorrow Dragonlance Nexus releases Tasslehoff's Pouches of Everything! #DragonlanceNexus #TasslehoffsPouchesOfEverything
Loving the ideas of these gestalt being dragons that have joined minds across the multiverse.
Way of the Ascendant dragon= Captain Falcon in DnD!
Hopefully they don't nerf the subclass too hard
I am absolutely hyped for more content about dragons.
How cool would it be if this was the introduction to Dragonlance?
So, the Elder Wyrms are purely so you can say Bahumut:Paladin :: Tiamat:Tahkisis and just end the argument.
Let's see how the gem dragons differ compared to the ones in strongholds and followers
Let’s so how much cooler we can make them by Frankensteining the bits we love together!
@@kiarshalavia Frankensteinening is now my favorite way to describe mixing stuff, thank you
That was my first thought
Thank you so much for your insightful comments about this intriguing book to come out.
Will be kind of upset if they don't have the UA kobold, and I haven't heard it mentioned by anyone yet, so I'm worried.
Idk, the tail feature could have been replace with a inventor flavored ability, and the roar was thematically stupid.
@@videogollumer I agree. Why was that even included?
@@BunniRabbi The tail feature or the roar?
Love when Tod hypes me up for new books
This will definitely be the best of the three coming out!
I tip my hat to Fizban. Proper respect, DND.
Thanks for all of the info Todd!
If this book doesn't include the dragon gods (specifically Io), I will be severely disappointed.
Yes! I want to be a dragon cultist!
I love that we're getting new Monk Subclasses, but WHEN are we going to get a Re-Work of the Elements Monk? lol
WotC reworking their classes and subclass? hahaha
We just have to accept that bad subclasses will remain bad , but its a good thing that we (monks) are starting to get better and better subclasess , it shows wizards is starting to understands what makes the monk fun and what his problems are ( mainly ki usage , thats why the prof. uses for subclass features )
In 2024 with the release of the new edition, or perhaps in Mordenkainen Presents Monster of the Multiverse.
I'm new to dnd and this leaves me just absolutely tickled pink
This book is going to be super useful if doing anything with Argonnessen in Eberron. I can't wait!
Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
The most important question; will we get Kender?!
This is the real important stuff Krynn sourcebook when!?
This book is going to be really useful if I ever get that "Metallic Dragon War" campaign going. A war between several principalities, over the right to ascend to imperial power over them all. Principalities backed up by metallic dragons. All noble, in their own way, but each differing over who has a right to rule. With young dragons raised alongside noble scions, the pair acting in concert as dragon knight and mount.
Hey! Heads up. The opening contains spoilers in regards to Fizban for anyone that’s reading the Dragon Lance books for the first time(As I am currently doing).
Any Dragonlance spoilers have long since expired. The books are 30+ years old. You can expect a warning for everything in life.
@@craigjones7343 I’m aware that the books our old. The game is experiencing a Renaissance and we’re seeing more new players get into the hobby. With that, and especially rumors of a “Dragonlance”book, there’s going to be renewed interest in the books.
::SPOILER ALERT:: Would you tell a kid that Darth Vader was Luke’s father before showing him Star Wars for the first time? It’s an old movie after all. No. You probably wouldn’t.
I can't wait for this book to come out.
I just wanted a Dragonlance setting
You and me both. I've been a dragon nerd since i was little. Dragonlance would be an epic setting to play in!
I hope soon
With how massive they are making the dragons in this book it would be cool to have size bigger than gargantuan introduced in the book. Colossus size?
Didn't they do something like that in Theros? O remember there being something of a template for Mythical monsters
Hyped for this book. Mostly cause I want to learn what the official version of the Way of the Ascendant Dragon Monk has.
I am really excited, finally a dragon lore book! BTW i was literally fantasising about a dragon lore book since volos guide (its indtroductory had a sentence about other monsters including dragons to have a place in other books)
Does anyone know if we will get gem dragon bloodlines for the Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer? it would be cool if we do but even without it this books sounds awesome and is defiantly going to be added to both my D&D Beyond and physical library of D&D books.
im not a fan of dragons and have a pc i made that is a monster slayer ranger that focus on dragon hunting in spirit of my hate for dragons, but even i am hype for this book, loved VGM and any more books like that i will always love
I’m hoping for a 5e version of the brainstealer dragon!
It is a pretty dope dragon
That thing is nightmare fuel
They've confirmed we're getting a 5E version of the Elder Brain Dragon aka Brainstealer Dragon and yeah the artwork for it screams nightmare fuel.
@@derrickhaggard They've also confirmed a brainstealer dragon and an elder brain dragon are different. An elder brain dragon has had an elder brain grafted to it while a brainstealer dragon has undergone ceremorphosis
@@gamingwithjado962 And both have 5E designs that scream Nightmare Fuel though I don't who is worse in that regard the Elder Brain Dragon or the Brainstealer Dragon.
I'm most excited for the Gem dragons and Dragonborn.
I like monk path of liu Kang and I like dragonrider with dragonlance. I LOVE the reference to mother dark, the malazan book of the fallen. Also, Amy for Fizban was 100/100 success
we had gem dragons a long time ago. glad they are coming in to 5e
Woo! Can't wait to put my god-like claws on to p wof this book!
Regards from Tabasco, México [Land of The Olmecs]!
We now have are book of Dragons. Now we just need a book of Dungeons!
If they ever make one, the mini for that dragon turtle is going to be as big as a house!
This is where the kobold PC rework is going to live as well, yeah? I rebuilt my kobold character with that UA and it’s fantastic!
There's also a kobold stat block in volo's guide.
@@alexanderthegreat6682 That was what I used before the UA, but the update reworks it so that it’s not as pathetic, haha. Swapped out sunlight sensitivity and grovel, cower, beg for some real unique traits.
@@mjbuffalo716 nice. I haven't checked out UA in a while.
@@alexanderthegreat6682 It’s a fun one. Tons of dragonborn updates (mentioned in the video here), spells, feats. I think this book is going to be a really good supplement!
Does this mean they're still not doing an Ancient Dragon Warlock Patron?! I can't be the only one who thinks this should have been an option since PHB.
I just don't see a dragon being willing to share even a sliver of their power with anyone much less a minion the dragon only keeps around for menial tasks
@@MustangMike52 "Legendary creatures, such as ancient gold dragons and unicorns, sometimes grace their allies with charms" DMG p228
I'm curious if it goes into more lore about Argonnessen. Eventually my players will get to travel there and I'd love more lore ect to lay before they arrive there that's up to date beyond 3.5 edition
Fizban wasn't an avatar of Paladine, he WAS Paladine. Krynn had a lot of gods that walked and directly interacted with mortals.
I was beyond stoked for this book anyway, but then.. then you said "Draconian statblocks" and oh, dear Sune. Lemme just go put my pre order in.
Maybe I'm having a stroke, but didn't Wizards just do Dragonlance dirty in some kind of legal/rights kerfuffle?
THANK YOU!! Horrendous! I can see the good folks new to D&D be all over this. (they don't know who Fizban is or care) but WOW. I've been playing for 30 years, and I'm disappointed at some of the content coming out. The Monsters Manual was severely devoid of any real lore or information, (just stat blocks) Dragons were basically monsters there. no spells. IDK. they should just come out with DragonLance. Dark Sun. Al Quadim. Etc.
If it doesn't have a Hickman or a Weiss attached to it, then it ain't Dragonlance in my book. I'm giving this a hard pass.
Wizards and W+H are now on good working terms and with the three new novels coming out soon, I hope there will be a campaign book for DL.🤞🤞🤞
@@gordonbailey9897 shhh, the nerds need their faux outrage to seem legitimate!
This will be mine!
Drake wardens? First world? Well, time for a HtTYD adventure
Any news on kobolds? I'm wondering if they got scrapped. I enjoyed the idea behind the UA kobolds.
Wondering how much of the UA Dragonborn updates will be included, and how much they'll differ from the UA
5:52 Bahamut + Tiamat = Bahumat hahaha
Ugh. I am running Tyranny of Dragons for my players right now. I'll probably be done before this book is out. Sadness. It looks great!
I'm hoping beyond hope we get stats for Bahamut
Are the older orange and yellow dragons getting a return?
Add the pink dragons to that.
Do we know if the UA kobold that was released with the UA dragonborn will be in here as well or was that dropped?
I hope we get a dragon warlock
What we need is how to fight something this big. Like we really need platforms for flying. We need bigger minis. But honestly I need people to make how to fight gargantuan monsters
I was really hope for draconic barbarian
5e Dragons have been weakened a lot! I'm looking forward to this.
I wonder if they'll fill out the color and metals types: yellow, orange steel, etc.
I’m hoping for Song dragons again
Is this the book expanding kobold lineage choices? Or did that get pushed to another book?
I mean, if any, it's gonna be this one right?
When talking about how many dragons are gonna be in this, are we talking individual stat blocks or species? Like 4 stat blocks for Sapphire Dragons and each of the 4 other gem dragon types
Four stat blocks for each gem dragon type.
Wyrms, neat
I wonder if the Dragonspawn Godslayers are gonna be in this book
I wonder if we can reflavor Kalishtar to be chosens of Sardior. Would be cool to be a Psi Warrior Jedi in service to a “dead” Ruby dragon.
Are they going to add the gem dragons to the draconic sorceror options though?
I really hope they make the breath weapon more viable for casters.
Ooh! Draconians!! Yuss!!
What are you referencing here? Jeremy Crawford said they explode? Where did he say this? The Draconian statblock info? As of this post, D&D Live hasn't yet started and some of your info isn't in the book description...
They may be referring to the dragonlance stories themselves, since the weird way draconians die has long been established in the novels.
@@BunniRabbi Turns out he was referencing a PR call WoTC did with some influencers. Really strange to refer to it without context, especially before the official announcement.
It was also in the 2E dragonlance supplements... Draconians would turn to stone (or explode, etc) and your weapons could get stuck in them... etc.
Amy Vorpahl *is* a fluttering wizard. Perfect choice!
So this is the book I'm the most hyped for. TWBtW is a neat idea and is one I may want to run, and I'm probably just gonna get the Strixhaven sourcebook for the Owlin race and spells since it's at current time my least favourite MtG setting
Any word on the kobold rebuild?
I really hope that there's a 5e Dragonkin in this book.
What's a dragonborn other than dragonkin? (Genuine question)
@@binaryteddybear8741 (The Answer) Dragonborn and Dragonkin are two separate species with their own separate racial traits. One example of many is that Dragonborn are 6 ft to 7 ft tall while a Dragonkin is 8 ft to 9 ft tall. Here are wikis on the two.

I wish draconians were a playable race
Still waiting on a dragon patron for warlock
Elder wyrms like Leto II in God Emperor of Dune?
No mention of kobolds, I wonder if their UA got scrapped? (which I guess I'm okay with... I would have preferred a second pass at them instead of removing them entirely, but I did NOT like them as they were printed on their first iteration. Volo's Kobold was much better, even with Sunlight Sensitivity)
Here, here!
Are noble draconians in this book?
that echo sounds like some Darkseid stuff
AMY VORPAHL IS PERFECT
Im using the way of the ascendant dragon
Does the presence of gem dragonborn mean we'll finally get a dragonborn with a thunder or force dragonborn?
See the turtle of enormous girth. On his back he holds the earth.
Turtle of Enormous Girls is a creature I REALLY want to see. Great typo. Make it so!
Hahahahaha not typo, voice to text. Just didn’t look at it.
