It’s fun to hear different perspectives from different countries. Here in Greece it starts from 22 thousand up to 36, I think but the reviews in most European countries are really good. Toyota never went to the luxury road, because, in my opinion, they don’t have to. They sell reliability. I grew up in Toyotas and because I wanted an SUV type of car and Toyota only had the expensive Rav 4 back then, we went to a Nissan Quashqai with my husband, ten years ago. Biggest mistake we ever made. The amount of problems it has had over the years is ridiculous. We are about to buy the Yaris Cross and I hope all goes well.
I’ve had one of these for over a year and I’m surprised at the very ordinary fuel consumption you recorded. Ours sits on 3.5-3.6 litres/100kms in town. If I really try I can keep it down to 3.4. A few months back we drove to Albany and Esperance, then back to Perth and it hit 4.9 litres/ 100 kms. About $225 in fuel for about 2300kms. I generally get up near 800 kms out of a tank and the most fuel I’ve ever put in its 36 litre tank is 29 litres 😊
@@IsaacLoven it is an enjoyable car to drive. I’d like less cabin noise but for the price point of this car you’re not going to get that Mercedes Benz silence….
I hired Yaris cross in cairns had fuel consumption down to 3.2-3.3 L/100km around town, impressive on fuel, found front drivers door wind noise and tyre road noise , otherwise impressive good size SUV
@@vincesteer7960 Very good result. My town figures include some freeway driving which pushes up fuel consumption. In any case, Toyota claim 3.8 l/100kms city fuel consumption so anything below that is a win.
I was looking for a review of this car and low and behold I find good ole Andy Chesterton!!! Thanks for the review video Andy!! You’ve done great and I love your dog. I hope you’re well my friend.
It’s too small for a family but I can see these really hitting the mark for older people. Nice and compact and also the raised seating makes for easy access
This car at best should be $33k drive away, with base model starting at $25k. It may be reliable but it’s nothing but a cheap plastic knock off from the early 2000s. Toyota slapping some height on a Yaris, throwing in a hybrid drivetrain, a digital dash from the Echo and first generation Yaris (just now in fancy circles) and thinking they can ask $40k+ for it is beyond a joke.
I mean, adding all those things really does transform a car and thus demand a higher price. "Slapping on" height, hybrid drivetrain, digital dashes/screens, alloy wheels and better speakers are big ticket items. Agree though that 40k is a joke.
My father has the 2WD version, and fuel wise it EASILY gets 3.7L/100km. You don't even need to try. Edit: yes I meant three point seven. That's not a typo.
If you value the good MPG for a small powered AWD hybrid over comfort /ride quality then go for it..but that stiff suspension and lack of driving fun will put a lot off i am sure.
That's just the petrol motor. It's an AWD hybrid, technically it has 3 electric motors. Think of the 85kW more like it's a turbo diesel, because that's what the driving experience is closest to. Torque, torque, torque.
@@hillbilly8621 yep, it has mud and sand AWD modes. I have one of these and it is loaded with tech which more expensive cars have. Great car for 2 people.
Cheapest nastiest interior I’ve ever come across for the price. At best a 3-up vehicle if you are a normal sized driver as there’s no room behind my seat at 181cm tall. Good sized boot. The usual terrible CVT, small engine combo but great fuel economy.
Biggest pos we ever bought. We bought a hybrid awd urban, lacking many features for a 45k car, under 500kms per tank, overpriced, underpowered and sold it within 6 months. Surprisingly we purchased a Renault arkana rs line for a couple grand more, sits constantly on 5.8l/km over 800km dte,and much more premium. Don’t waste your money.
Where do you start with this monstrosity? The brown faux leather is hideous.. the infotainment is laughable, the power is lacking and the price is ridiculous.. how are they selling any of these??
Test drove this car and it's an overpriced junk covered in cheap hard plastics everywhere. 40k+and it doesn't even have an armrest. The engine vibrates so much, noisy, cramped, terrible infotainment system, terrible instrument cluster and expensive. I have nothing positive to say about this junk. It's a mystery why there's a waiting list for this car. 4.9L/100km for a lethargic 3 cylinder hybrid is meant to be impressive? Geez
My eyes are on your Corgi.....he is so well-behaved and adorable.

Just bought one and it’s great but It’s not tiny !

Driving this bad boy in Germany and love it
Same.
3.8l/100km 👍

Thumbs up for Poppy.
Just ordered the Urban, only being used as a townie for me & my wife & trips to the local surf.
Is it me or did they not paint it properly under the bonnet?
They must have run out of paint, what's that all about !?
I would wait for Corolla cross hybrids.
Yes, I think it will be far better.
Looks good but will cost a bunch more. The Yaris cross is fine for 2 people.
I'm waiting for a car test when the tester brings his/ her ' cat '.
Really would like to try this awd on Swedish winter roads
Toyota should package in a free corgi with every Yaris purchase
My eyes were stuck to your corgi
Yes, I love you corgi. So, so cute and well-behaved.

Interior is fine, I’m more concerned about the flimsy body panels
I just paid 22k€ for mine, what are you on?
well theres an 18 month wait for a new one so someone is buying them
Available in the US ??
Regards from North, Finland! The direct access to boot from back seat is meant for carrying yours skis around 😀
here in australia room for surfboards is important not skiis!!

Toyota milking Australians pockets. Oh what a feeling

To be fair 90% of car buyers don't care about driving fun or suspesion handling.
Especially not in the price segment.
Your dog stole the show
6:45 To be fair you get the same engine, transmission and insulation for 25k$
85kw ?! What were they thinking ?
For A$37 grand ? 🤣
Honda the same
To be fair, the guy is reviewing the most expensive variant of the car. The glx is where it's at if you want a bit more bang for your buck
43k d/a.. well bit expensive for the size..

Can someone please tell me why this car is called an SUV and not a hatchback?
I can’t watch the video where steering wheel is on the wrong side . It makes me dizzy. 😵💫
Rightside or suiside😅
I drive a toyota prius plug in which lets me go 20k (if I need to) gas free so I could never go backwards to this technology.
Unfortunately not available in au
Is it sell in America, I wanted the AWD Yaris.
I’ve driven it as a rental, good car, decent stability on low level off-road terrain. Not worth that price tag though.
Punters will spend thousands to save alittle in fuel costs.
As Huey Lewis once famously said (and sang) "whatever happened to true love"
People really get annoyed hearing the engine reving. How did they manage back in the 60s where there was no electric or fuel injection?
white or silver or light colored better for showing new car ...
that model is nice design ...
i like that AWD E4 hybrid of Toyota ..
43k d/a.. bit expensive for the size and noisy engine and bit firm suspension and lack of insulation from wind and road noise..
Hopefully they won’t change the front like the one just brought out in Asia looks like a hearse crossed with a house brick
thats beaman park earlwood, my neighbourhood lol
It comes with a corgi? That can't be right
My new car in ash grey metalic awd 136ps

You can 10 of these for the cost of porsche cayman i just saw reviewed ....
Did Toyota give it to you for free?
You've got to be kidding !....I'd go for a Kia cerato gt hatch at that price point. Should be $22990 drive away
TF Gt cerato hatch is 37k haha even the base model is 27k.
Only in Japan could 7 inches be considered big 😏
It's not the size dopey, it's what you do with it that's matters.
Did i just see that toyota hasnt painted the inderneath of the bonnet fully? Toyota are taking the piss out of their customers
He's reviewing the Japanese version. The European made ones are much much better.
The Yaris Cross on the ASEAN market looks more better, especially the interior, and it cost less
In Europe we get a much better upmarket interior. You Aussies get poverty spec japanese part bins.

My wife amost bought this until she drove the Puma.
I want your wife. She's a wise woman. I want her.
Aussie spec; no arm rest, no digital display, no Toyota Smart Connect...
Nothing.
The Aussies are being conned.
The Poms are getting everything.
Other journalists call it short off, Expensive cramped, crap.
Interesting. Gutless and yet it uses more fuel than my i30 diesel did.
No way , it is quite a perky performer

Brutal @djc2609 But some very valid points.
BYO corgi
That paint job under the bonnet is atrocious
"perfect for my wife and me" not I
For this kind of money, i'd rather spend it on a CX-30... Minus the gnarly grey plastic cladding...
100% but Mazda packaging quite bad. Feels like you’re in a car in a smaller class.
@@cityplanner3063 I think that can be subjective, both have their plusses and minuses.
Pathetic power. For a hybrid. My wife’s joilion is 1.5T and would blow that thing away
It's not perfect and it's not an SUV at all....
