I took your older videos advice and got myself a 2010 Lexus RX 450h Sports Luxury for an absolute steal. The amount of car for ~$17k still makes me grin. The quality of these cars are simply awesome, smooth, comfort, practical, has converted me to a big Lexus fan. As much as I like some of the European cars, I can’t go past the reliability, relatively low maintain cost, and build quality of Lexus. Highly recommended 👍

@@Mububban23 Pretty high I guess at ~220k kms, and I know I will likely need to get some work done on it in near future, but these are seriously nice cars, so I'm happy to spend some money to keep it well maintained. I'd highly suggest going after one of the top spec'd Sports Luxury models. The heated and cooled seats work great, and even has semi modern features like adaptive cruise control. They aren't sporty but man are they nice to drive.

On the longevity of the Prius, we have just onsold our 2007 with 440,000km. Had one battery pack replacement in 2016 which with a changeover discount cost less than $1000 and was still performing well when we sold it. Fantastic cars, if a bit uninspiring to drive.

We used to have an is300h and even though it had around 160kw, it still was good to drive because it was rear wheel drive. Then we sold it for an es300h, that car was bigger and more comfortable but it had less equipment and less power than the is300h and I still miss it. Also the is300h had xenon headlights whereas the es had halogen lights which wasn't great.

The IS300h is fantastic! My mom owns one (at my recommendation). Honestly, it's a car I couldn't recommend enough to anyone, and it actually handles much nicer than my GS450h. I just couldn't get over it being electronically limited to 200km/h, and the IS350 was unfortunately never sold in my country. But if you're not a speed demon like me, the IS300h is the best.

Was in Japan a couple of months ago, the places we went were an ocean of Toyota Hybrids, and very few pure electric cars at all. In Central Tokyo you were more likely to see a Ferrari or Lambo than a Tesla, not that that is the sole EV on the market. It’s funny how the authorities in Australia benchmark our EV uptake against Scandinavian countries, and conveniently ignore one of our biggest trading partners.

Hi all, have to agree totally on reasons for purchasing a hybrid vehicle. Have owned three Prius, and a CRZ. Wished I had kept the CRZ but still own a Gen 4 Prius and a mild hybrid Mazda 3 skyactiv x. All were reliable only the Gen 4 was new but none had any costs other than servicing and three sets of tyres in total. Mazda was also new. Gen 4 Prius currently at 4.3 to 4.4 litres/ 100 km. And between all the cars only one twelve volt battery replaced. As an ownership experience, utterly reliable nothing ever failed or broke. Highly recommend.

I bought a 2014 Honda Fit Hybrid Import and while the family love the practicality and 5L per 100km fuel efficiency, we did manage to blow up the DCTi transmission with 51,000km on the clock so, not bulletproof. In hindsight, we should have had the transmission serviced upon purchase, as a precaution against the $4k spent for a secondhand replacement with 88,000km on it or an approx. $8k for a new one, ouch!

Greetings from the uk,love your channel.
I have two hybrids at home,2018 Toyota Yaris, this is the best value, featured version to go for as Toyota did a lot of updates under the skin and added new safety features,it is very comfortable and gets great fuel economy, average 46-54 miles per gallon in town and 56-60 on motorway, yes the new model is better but much more expensive for not much better fuel economy,5 years on the only fault is part of the led strip on one of the led lights failed, replaced with a completely new head light unit by Toyota for free.
My brother has 2019 Camry but I went for the Lexus ES300 H late 2018 ,the ES what an amazing car,so quite, comfortable and refined, there is sound insulation in the engine bay even overlying the shock absorbers to isolate the noise, features like auto stop which will detect you are too close to a wall and slam the brakes when you are parking and the ventilation system that automatically detects pollution in the outer air and switch the intake to recirculation then back again to external intake when the air is clear are only a few of what this car offers in addition to the excellent fuels economy for such a large car as it has the 4th generation hybrid, the only fault is that one of the headlights started to develop moisture inside it , i am sure due to damage from the previous owner as the unit was was bent inward, replaced for free by lexus , likely expensive, got a free curtesy car while waiting for the repair, only downside is the lack of rear foldable seats.
    highly recommended.
The fact that Toyota and Lexus offer you a 10 year full warranty provided you service the car yearly with them up to 100,000 miles Shows the confidence they have in quality of there products and makes them the Best buy that no other hybrid manufacturer can compete with.

Hi Paradigm, on standard acceleration figures it would seem nothing special. However as an auto with paddle shift instantly accessing lower preset gears one or two clicks sail into a bend and back on the accelerator the instant electric boost makes it a natural action for the gearbox to upshift without needing to further click paddles. The auto has a wider spread between top and bottom gearing turning at lower revs on the highway and allowing snappy fast driving. And still achieving over 50 mpg imperial or 42 mpg us. Cheers.

i dont find much difference from my 2008 prius and the work 2022 hybrid corolla both get 4.5L/100 (the corolla varies less in winter and is less of a cow accelerating). I changed for a V6 tarago recently, didnt go for the estima hybrid as its battery change is even more back breaking and complicated than the old prius and harder to insure. unfortunately we dont see many of the battery pack upgrades other countries see :/ also got a fit hybrid and i love it, super speedy and nimble (way better than the corolla imo)

Several caveats here. An older hybrid, 8-10 years is going to have low battery efficiency, if the battery survives at all. The battery may still work, but you are just carrying a heavy lump that does not affect your fuel economy much at all, it fact it could mean that you are just carry around a basically dead battery, and have an underpowered and uneconomical ICE vehicle.
So you are going to have to look at the remaining practical life of that battery. Has it been replaced, and if it has, is the battery reliable and efficient??. Battery tech has come a long way in 10 years, and as late as 2019, they had the older, less efficient types.
Plug in hybrids are a better deal overall, if your circumstances permit it. They have bigger batteries, and if you use them correctly [charge them every night] when you have nearly depleted the battery, then they will last a long time. Modern rechargeable batteries have DEEP cycle capability, meaning that you can use most of the watt-hours available. [A lead acid battery, such as in the "house" will only give you 50% of it's capacity before you need to recharge]. With modern Lithium- ion, you can safely draw on about 90% or more [depends on the type] , and after that on-board battery management will shut it off.
So a ten year old hybrid with a tired battery is simply not a good deal- whatever the price- UNLESS the battery is only a couple of years old. OEM hybrid batteries are enormously expensive, and after market ones can be a better deal, but you really have to know what you are doing.
There is usually a good reason why an old hybrid is cheap as chips. You can be lucky, but batteries need to be properly used to get the stated life out of them. And beware those corporation fuel efficiency numbers. They are not exactly total lies, but nobody actually drives like that, and if you did, you would likely attract some road rage.
