I have ordered a Toyota Corolla Cross Altos hybrid. This video was excellent and I look forward to my Toyota experience. I am changing from a Mazda 3 to Toyota! Babs
This past weekend we checked out a few of your favs, the Corolla Cross, a Jolien, BYD and a Rav4. The BYD was just too weird, the Rav4 just felt old and clunky, the Jolien and Corolla Cross were the best, but the boot size and no "spare" were downsides given we are country SA. So Corolla Cross was the winner - and the wait time, we were lucky, not wanting a special colour, delivery will be in less than 2 weeks.
Great stuff mate. And a good choice. Glad you’re getting it speedily enough! Some people are still copping long waits (in the cities on the east coast!).
Just solid, reliable cars. We have had a couple of Corolla 4wd Wagons and one is still going 33 years old now. I quite like the unfussy design of the cross and think the sweet spot is the GXL hybrid AWD. The USA get a light interior as well which is a lot less gloomy inside.
Nice detailed review Matt. When I called my friendly local Toyota dealer to arrange a test drive of the hybrid, he informed me that the current waiting time was 3 years. I'm sure Toyota would not exaggerate this figure for fear of losing sales, so that was a deal breaker for me. Pity - seems like a good thing.
Three years?! Where is this dealership? There are delays, sure - but my recommendation is to think outside the suburb or town or city you’re in, and make some calls to other dealerships.
Spoke to our local dealer, they said for the hybrid there were 108 orders on the books and were receiving on average 2 hybrids per month. Petrol only there were 7 orders on the book… so long waits for hybrid …
Thank you! Outlander PHEV is in the works - getting one in about six weeks time. I have driven e-Power X-Trail. And I can say that I’d be opting for the Mitsubishi or a RAV4 hybrid as a priority…!
The secret is to order where people Don’t order these like near farms and go to small Toyota dealers, wait times seem to be different, I ordered in feb and was told 8 months to a year next minute it’s coming in April at the start !
It's available this year, if you ordered when it came out (i.e. late last year) 😉 I ordered in Sept, and it's due May/Jun. In NZ they only sell the hybrid, and orders closed a few months after release, now similar to the RAV4 you can only register for 2024.
Cheers for the review mate. Was looking at the Corolla Cross but ended up with a Rav4 GX Hybrid since the quotes I got were $39,000 for Corolla Cross Hybrid and $40,500 for the Rav4 Hybrid (this was before the Rav4 got a price increase for 2023). Also the Rav4 hybrid wait time was 3 weeks which is rare to find for a hybrid Rav4. Would be dumb to pass that offer.
@@lindsayh9094 Lucky inquiry really. My dealer just happen to have 2 extras available. I think the fact that its a white GX Hybrid helped because more fleets order those and sometimes might cancel orders or someone just didn’t get approved for finance. Either way, worked in my favour haha.
I ordered an ATMOS 2WD in early Nov 22 and I'm still waiting. Ive ordered Jungle Khaki colour. It will be interesting to see if I get it. It looks a good SUV for me in my retirement and travelling. I am alone so I should have plenty of room.
Yes, except the waiting list for the Corolla Cross hybrids is now on par with hybrid RAV4 and Camry and Corolla hybrids, i.e. 2 years. I don't have the patience to wait 2 years for a new car. There are other options now, including the EVs and non-Toyota hybrids.
Thanks for your comment. You're right - waiting two years for a new car is unbearable. But the wait time really depends on the dealer. Some are quoting a lot less than two years.
I know what you mean when you mentioned about the ABS kicking in randomly - I get that on my hybrid RAV4 occasionally too! It seems to do it when braking (regen braking only) over small bumps in the road. It's a strange feeling and quite annoying! A red light on the dash flashes at the same time.
Been considering this or seltos both near top trims, big shame this doesn't come with a spare tire in the AWD hybrid 😭. Yet to test drive both so will have to see how much the speed safety system annoys me in the seltos
The waiting time for RAV4 was 2 years when I went to Toyota dealer near Warwick Farm. The Cross Atmos is the same. The GX and GXL were 6-8 months. I ordered the GX and am still waiting for it after three months. I am curious how the baby seat fits in this car, Matt. I saw you did put one in with the Nissan car.
Hi mate. Yeah, that’s a bit tough. Don’t bank on it coming early! The seat fits fine. The doors don’t open as wide as in the Nissan - so it can be a bit more of a squeeze to get in and out with a baby in your arms. But yeah, in terms of space, you’ll fit a rearward capsule or a forward facing seat with room ahead for a front seat passenger.
Hi Matt, thanks for your review. Your review helped me to adjust my expectations and bought accessories to improve the car. I finally got my GX hybrid a few weeks ago. Very nice driving experience. My family also love it so far. We have installed a car seat for my upcoming newborn. Just about the ideal daily driver for most people. I'd wait for "series 2" to come out in a few years so they can iron out the little bugs. Plus, it might take Toyota 2 years to catch up on backorders anyway. How the largest car manufacturer in the world can't work out how to make enough of these (and the RAV4's) is beyond me. Forget Covid, chip shortages etc, factories have had enough time to get back into full swing. Makes me wonder if car companies are intentionally constraining manufacturing output so they can add 20% profit margin to make up for the Covid days. This is a $40,000 car being sold for $50,000 because they can get away with it. They are opening the door to Nissan, Mazda, MG and other brands who can get the cars out the factory door.
