4 yrs in 1st barrel, 2yrs in Heritage barrel - if I am recalling. This bottle is fantastic for the price. JD at MSRP is killing it with 12y, SBBP Rye, and Heritage Rye.
Shelf Stable: Food that doesn't spoil or rot when stored at room temperature I think you mean Shelf Staple: A primary product offering that can be expected to be readily available
I managed to score a bottle of this on Saturday and maaan. It's so good. The mouthfeel and finish are unreal. It's the first JD special release and allocated release I've ever owned.
I just got this bottle Friday. Here is Washington state we are at the mercy of the liquor store owners for pricing as it’s not regulated. I knew I’d probably not see another so I paid $150 plus the WA taxes which pushed it over the $180 mark. Delicious bottle! Campfire smoke at the finish and I loved it this. Not a $180 bottle but sometimes you have to pay to get your hands on it. Great review guys!
I finally broke down and started using big box stores. We’re lucky that we have a great store in Redmond, but most are very niche and overpriced compared to, say, Total Wine or Costco.

Loved this bottle and have a back up for it as well. Whiskey tube has martyred this bottle, and I really like this bottle as a change up from Jack Daniel’s. I have two of them and will baby both of them. Glad to see y’all providing positive feed back.
Re; "Heritage". If used in the same context as it is used with other fruit, vegetable and grains it means that the variety of Rye used has been around for a looong time, and likely was one of the original Rye varieties used to distill rye. Re: "Shelf Stable". I've only ever seen the term used to describe the ability of a perishable food product to retain it's "freshness" once opened and stored. Most liquors such as whiskey's, rum, tequilla, gin, vodka are "shelf stable" remaining drinkable and enjoyable over decades. Liquors such as wine, champagne, vermouth will quickly lose their appeal once opened and hence have a short shelf life.
Flavor drift comparison between releases of the same distillery becomes really nerdy stuff and also very important. The ones that continue to release the exact same tasting bottle every year deserves credit.
I only have the regular old JD rye (22$) but I made a shot with .5oz buttershots .5oz screwball PB and 1oz of the rye and it tasted just like the instant maple oatmeal packs!🤯 I can only imagine the maple notes coming from this🤤 bottle!
I agree with you guys on the smooth adjective. It just makes sense with certain whiskeys. If I have one that just hits all of the right spots and is a consistent sipper I use smooth
Watch all the time. Love the show. Have learned a lot from watching. This is the only time I have commented. Really appreciate your commentary on this show. Great job and keep it up. Know it’s all appreciated. Thank you.
I'm not paying over MSRP for anything. If I can't find one, no big deal. There will be something else next week. If everyone would stop paying over MSRP it would be better for all of us. The "Secondary Market" shouldn't even be a thing. If people can't sell for over MSRP, they would have no reason to buy it if they weren't going to drink it. Then there would be more bottles on the shelves for the average Joe. Think ticket scalpers. Please do your part and don't pay over MSRP.
Speculator market is the worst. Along with whiskey I’m an avid comic book collected edition owner, and have about 200 omnibus in my collection. When I got started it was difficult because speculators would buy out the inventory and up charge them in the secondary market, making the books incredibly hard to find. Secondary markets are certainly legal and always will be. They’re also absolute garbage. I agree with OP here.
100% agree. I yet have paid over MSRP for any brown liquor. Just to many options out their. Although I did have a nice 2 oz pour of this JD Heritage twice barrel rye and I would pay over MSRP, just don't know how much. I have yet to see it in the stores.

It would be my honor.

Hoping I can find a bottle. I just picked up a bottle of JD Bonded Rye and was surprised how good it was, and only $30. A cool video would be to compare affordable Ryes as you have done with the bourbons. There are a lot of good ones under $50. Thanks for another great video.
Dear Kurt and Trent- please let us know what Bourbons are good for keeping in fridge and freezer before drinking. (Like Johnnie Walker who recommended put the gold label in freezer before serving) Thanks
I tend to snapshot the bar top and add notes at the end of each episode. But often the camera focus is more towards the backbar making it hard to get a clear pic of the bottles. Any chance to tweek that? Thanks for posting all these, even when you don't add the text that you say you're going to. 😂😊
I guarantee if you can find this in Florida it is already over $200. It took forever for the 10 and 12 year to show up and I haven't seen the 10 year for less than $150 and the 12 year for less than 300.
I expect this to be 2x MSRP or more when it hits the liquor stores in my neck of California. JD 12 year selling for 350+😢 Lots of gouging for limited releases.

My store has the Barrel Strength Rye, I think it’s around 131 proof. Anyone know how it stacks up? I’m not really a fan of the high proof but if it tastes lower proof I’d buy it.
Can you do a review of Mcfarlane's Reserve 13yr Bourbon finished in Cabernet Sauvignon? It is my all time favorite and I am surprised how underestimated it is in the market nowadays!
You were both very kind in your review on this bottle relative to the main stream whiskey tubers. Luckily in got a bottle a while it was very palatable and mellow up front the finish was flat and very oaky. Not sure what a heritage barrel is but it toasted the liquid without impart the rich sweet elements you’d expect. I do give it credit for being layered with some interesting components but the rye did not shine this time. That being said I think there is plenty of competition for this release out there in the price range or lower. I’d go with Woodford or sagamore double oak for a very similar experience.
*In principle* I have no problem with special releases. But just imagine what could happen if they'd give this much attention to making the Old No. 7 a *good* whisky! Other distilleries can make a good standard offering that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and Jack Daniel's could do the same, if they'd just put in a little effort.
Trent, you may benefit from watching some of the videos i do regarding quality of products. I don't watch any specific to eyeglasses, but i imagine they are out there for the batpeople.
You say this offering is $80, not 3 digits - I WISH I could get it for that. The greed of the stores around here, and online, will all be well over MSRP - IF you can find it. A quick search of online sellers shows it is already sold out at many places, and the ones that had it were between $399 and $699! 😮💨 Don't get me wrong, I am VERY happy for those of you that CAN get your hands on this, or many other allocated bottles like this, and I am still very interested in your reviews. It just stinks so many of us don;t even get a shot at one. Sorry for griping, it's just frustrating. 🤬
