Tennessee | Jack Daniel's Distillery Tour

  • While in the Nashville area, we decided to take a tour of the Jack Daniel's Distillery which is located 75 miles south in the small town of Lynchburg.
Jack Daniel's is the number one selling brand of whiskey in the world and it is not to be mistaken with the bourbon whiskey's that come from some of the northern states. Jack Daniel's is a sour mash whiskey, and is only made at the Lynchburg site - with 2016 being the 150th Anniversary.
There are a few different tours on offer, one of which is a 'tea-total' option which does not include any sampling. We chose the Angel's Share tour as it appeared to be the most comprehensive and on a personal level involved sampling products that I have not tried before.
The tour itself takes you around all areas of the distillery, though incase you are wondering why some areas are missed off the video (Still house, charcoal mellowing areas, certain areas of the barrell house) its because there is a very strict no photography policy enforced. The tour was excellent and our guide, Brian was very knowledgeable on all things Jack!
Ironically the distillery and Lynchburg is located in a Dry Country (Moore County) i.e. ''No Alcohol for Sale', this dates back to the prohibition era. The only place you can purchase the different Jack Daniel's products is within the White Rabbit Saloon which was formerly located within the town square of Lynchburg, but is now the store within the Jack Daniel's visitor center. This is the only place in Lynchburg where Jack Daniels (alcoholic) products can be purchased. The general store within Lynchburg itself sells cakes, coffee and other items which are made with Jack Daniels, but these products are not branded as Jack Daniels and contain a very low (if any) alcohol content - because its a dry county!
If you appreciate Jack Daniel's then the distillery is worth a visit!

Very good. I did the tour when I was in my 20s. Was AWESOME. I used to drink Jack. I don't anymore, but watching this makes me think I should buy a bottle, and remind myself what it tasted like.

I took the tour about a month ago. Very interesting. A couple of things of interest- the visitors center doesn't sell the usual assortment of souvenirs- glasses, coffee cups, t-shirts etc. but they do sell bottles of Jack Daniels various whiskey's.

    • @Randommusingsvideos

I thought that before I visited. They have a store which sells the whiskey, but when I visited it was placed in a sealed bag at the counter. In Lynchburg, you can buy products which have Jack Daniels in the ingredients (Cake etc) but not the bottles of JD themselves!

After the tour, if you go into Lynchburg, which is like a block or two down the street to the square, there you can find the souvenir shops such as tshirts, shot glasses etc. Very cool shops.

      Tyler correct.
Anyhow the hardware store in Lynchburg (a short walk down the street) is JD owned souvenir shop.
The other shops in town also sell JD gear, JD flavored foods and coffees.
However I suggest visiting The Lynchburg Winery and Distillery as well. I did tastings there and ended up walking out of there with Wines, Whiskeys, moonshines, and other stuff.
Went back last weekend to grab a bottle of Tennessee Gold #27. It’s cheaper at JD then anywhere else in Tn. $100 at JD compared to $175-250 anywhere else I looked.

    3 questions
#1: Can you drink jack daniels while on the tour?
#2: Do you get to same Jack Daniels on the tour?
#3:Is there a giant Whiskey fountain at the end of the tour?

Tour is quite different since my visit with a friend from SoCal where I grew up back in 1981 - Everything was much less structured and organized - We were able to tour through various buildings and specific distilling areas covering the entire "making" process throughout its cycle, which doesn't seem to be part of the more commercialized tour today - Cool memories from the best decade ever... \m/

I know the tour guide was talking fast but at the sugar maple site he said “two cords make a rick”. That’s backwards, 2 (or 3) ricks make a cord depending on how long the wood is cut. 24” pieces will make a cord with only 2 ricks while 18” pieces will take 3 ricks to make a cord. A rick measures 8’ long by 4’ high by whatever length the wood is cut. A cord measures 4’ x 4’ x 8’ or 128 square feet. To make the 4’ width you can have two 24” stacks or three 18” stacks.

    • @Randommusingsvideos
      @Randommusingsvideos  6 років тому

The Angels Share tour took us to ‘a’ barrel house, whereby we were led to a tasting room and given guidance on how the different blends should be tasted etc. I’m not sure whether any other tours take you to a different barrel house or whether you spend more time there? Not sure. I found the tour I went on seemed to cover everything in a good level of detail, though there were some other more specific tours available at the time (sept 2015) but I just wanted a good overview.

Most spring water runs underground for so long finding the head source is impossible. It can honestly take years, if not centuries from the time it seeped into the ground til it comes out the other end. The good thing is the natural pressure, minerals, and limestone filtration it gets will make it the absolute cleanest, best tasting water you can get.
