Holly fuck. I never expected people from the other side of the world to sing Bulgarian songs so beautifully. Admirations to all singers and their lead.
Gawd damn I thought the same just now. Even if it's a bit faster than the original vid from 11 years ago, they are totally hitting the notes and harmony
I actually got teary , I am bulgarian living in Chicago but how well they pronounce bulgarian with old accent and dialect , this is tremendous !!! THANK YOU !!
@@itsmaxhhheadr00m73 reduce the nonsense and give a little more facts. When the Bulgarians came to the Balkans, they did not speak today's Bulgarian language. The Bulgarians are an Asian Tatar tribe. When they came, they found the Serbian population and took the language from the Serbs. Obviously, this kind of Bulgarian language was not spoken in Asia
As a Bulgarian, watching this really touches my heart - first, the performance is exceptional, almost indistinguishable from the native Bulgarian one. I wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't Bulgarian, except for some microscopic details (like the "ti" vocalizations, which are a bit harder in Bulgarian). The voices and overall vocalization are just amazing. Filip Kutev and the original singers would be proud listening to this. Second, as Bulgarians, we are used to hearing our musicians perform and pay homage to global music, from classical to modern -- but we are not used to having our culture recognized in the same way. Seeing this performance really lifts the spirit of the whole country. Thank you!
@@karamtraktor Both in T and L sounds, English speakers just touch the tip of the tongue to the palate of the mouth - Bulgarians touch the whole front of the tongue directly to the back of the teeth (similar to a "th" sound in English, but without letting the air pass).
Great musical mastery, but also excellent pronunciation, only the most critical ear can hear a non-Bulgarian color in the "t" and "l" sounds! Congrats from Bulgaria!
There's Bulgarian national music used in The Brothers Grimm, 300 (the American movie about the trojan war) and I can't count probably how many more. And they give us 0 credits for that epic moment soundtrack. Sometimes they don't even pay anybody for it because it's in the public domain.
With all the hate and destruction that humans bring to our beautiful planet, its nice to be reminded of the beauty we posess within. A world class choir is nothing short of breathtaking when they are on and this lot is ON! I dont know how many can truly appreciate how difficult this is... The actual music itself is so incredibly dissonant that it is a nightmare to tune and even a slight bit of pitchiness flat or sharp literally kills the whol effect... Add in that these Kiwis are singing in a non native language (Bulgarian) AND doing so in an ancient dialect and accent makes it all the more incredible. Absolutely blown away.
Man, what else is going on at Hogwarts? In all seriousness, outstanding job. I remember seeing the clip of a Bulgarian women's choir doing this song like 10 years ago and it was mind blowingly good. These kids are outstanding.
Amazing, thank you. Невероятно изпълнение с такова чувство и сърце. Тези песни отразяват едни сериозни етапи от живота на милиони ... и енергията се усеща. Бих завел този състав в България да гледат нестинарите докато слушат песни...
As a Bulgarian super super surprised how Kiwis so so so far away from Bulgaria managed to really get it so good and respect to NZ. Thank you for cherishing our ancient music. Have a great day and greetings from BG! We now sadly have move more commercial Balkan music, but the traditions are still quite alive you will still be able to listen to bagpipe and medieval music simply because we are too old. Ottomans and Soviets and Byzantines destroyed much of our culture but hey we still exist as a nation more than 1300 years. Just google when was Bulgaria founded lol.
This is marvelous. I have sung this song with the Yale Slavic Chorus. It is truly BEAUTIFULLY done by this lovely group from New Zealand. Brava !! I am very touched.
They could don Maori costume and tattoos 😉 I once saw the Polynesian dance theatre and their various choirs … all beautiful just differently so ❤ Also saw the full traditional Bell voice choir .
New Zealanders often "punch above our weight."I cycled 4000kms through 10 countries in Eastern Europe recently, and was treated thoroughly well by all people. Bulgarian women are beautiful.
Fantastic! I'm guessing they learnt this off sheet music as from the Bulgarian performances there seems to be a bit of microtonality that wasn't included in this performance but I guess that is hard to capture in western notation.
Actually, in case you're interested, it's not microtonal differences. The difference comes from close, clashing harmony and the incorporation of aggressive (more high end) vocal tones. These features were absent here, making it sound more "pleasant", and in my opinion, generic.
@@iamthe80s49 in the versions I have heard sung by Bulgarian female choirs there is definitely some micro-tonality in the ululations and in the lower parts at the end before the final chord settles. This is not the same as the dissonance or nasal tone used throughout.

How do they sound so authentic? That's a dedicated set of students right there.
They from a grammar school, who wonders.

This is intensely sophisticated music for this age of student. EXTREMELY impressive.

They don't really have any throat singing abilities and the tempo is faster.
Other than that absolutely agree, its a nice cover.
I think that the "ti" doesnt sounds off, a bit softer but still perfectly normal. It's the "lo" sound in seloto that is a giveaway for me
