Check for "the London Bulgarian Choir @ BBC 2006 Choir of the Year Final" in youtube. They are really singing like bulgarians (there are few bulgarians in the choir, the rest are people around the world. The trainer is bulgarian.)
It’s a different thing learning a language and learning how to pronounce a song. And a song can still sound good even if the pronunciation was off. Which is the case here.
So the lyrics basically sing of a bachelor grandpa (not clear if never married or a widower), who got all dressed up and went down to the village to dance at the unmarried women's "horo" (a traditional Bulgarian dance where dancer form a chain). All for them ran away but the youngest - Angelina (Bulgarian version of Angela). And the grandpa danced with her. One school of thought is that this is a humorous song about an old coot trying to dance with the young women. With only one dancing with him because she is as sweet as an angel. Another school of though is that the old man passed away and this is his afterlife, in which he is dancing with his Angel.
Brilliant performance! Your rendition, girls was really beyond comparison! As a Bulgarian, living in New Zealand I was so proud to hear this difficult song performed in such a cheerful and professional manner! Thank you!
I have to admit, this chorus perform the best replica of Bulgarian song "Ergen Deda".... I heard them all on UA-cam. This was the best! Congratulations! You are incredible, guys!
Wow, wow, and wow!!! I'm Serbian student of serbian language and literature, but really love tradition of all Balkan folk and this is classic! Beautiful work, girls!
Very smooth and pleasure to listen to. Non-Bulgarian choir adds another level of diversity to this music and it enriches it even more. Greetings from Bulgaria!
Straight A to all of the girls. They did an amazing job and they should be proud of their art. They captured the sassiness and the silliness of the song perfectly without overdoing it.
My grandma is part of the choir that performs the classical version. As for non-Bulgarians, your way of singing is quite good. Of course, there is a lot to fix. ❤ Well done!
This is not the first time I've "discovered" another great choral piece only to search UA-cam to find this wonderful choir performing it. Well done, Bex Monopoli and Nelson College for Girls!
Great performance. The best I've heard by a non-Bulgarian choir!

Incredible that students in New Zealand can sing (Bulgarian) Balkan music so well....it truly sounds like a really hard language to learn.

@@AspiLeoyeah it was close. But it was off. But hey they are a bunch of kids from New Zealand. Let’s give them a little credit here.
@@panzerlieb Absolutely. They are incredibly talented and pleasant sounding.
That is not simply “Balkan” music. It is Bulgarian folklore. Serbia has a different kind of folkore music to put it mildly.

not aware if that - point me to Kujos
Bring Me The Horizon brought me here :)
