I agree Lando, I liked how Krystle lay down the law and showed MR. Rude Joseph that she was in charge of the household not him. the fact she threatened to fire him and give her opinion on how he acts...if he found work with someone else. As he noted if it was negitive he'd have a hard time finding work.
The SHAAADE in "you're a good worker, I'll speak with Mr. Carrington about increasing your salary". She basically says "you are a WORKER for ME and MY husband, know your role". Y'all missing it.
Thanks for explaining that scene. Was trying to figure out what went on after Joseph dissed her on her friendship offer/olive branch. I knew she was shading him, just wasn't sure how. He was treating her like a peon and she turned it around on him. Loved Krystle. She was the more relatable character.
As Mrs. Blake Carrington she had the power to put his lights OUT. She could have blackballed him so hard NO ONE would hire him for fear of alienating that family. Those are people you want as your friends; NEVER enemies.
Joseph was hell bent on being a queen here. Krystle tried to be nice but he asked for it. "I ASKED YOU A QUESTION JOSEPH". I bet the staff got a kick out of him being read. LOL
This is one of my all-time favorite scenes. The Lady of the Manor smacking down the butler, a.k.a. the paid help, back into his place. And NO WAY would I complain if my man brought home that kind of jewelry for me!
A great example of illustrating how human Krystle was. She was so torn after admonishing Joseph, she was nearly in tears and needed that moment on that sofa alone.
Although Alexis was the intended target, this scene would explain why Joseph did not care that Krystle was also in Steven's cabin before he locked it and set it on fire in the season finale of 1983.
Poor Krystle, people's nasty attitudes forcing her to be something she doesn't want to be. She should have told Joseph, "When I say I want to be friends, it doens't mean I want to come to your house for dinner, it means I want to have a friendly working relationship".
Krystle was the relatable character whom we entered this world through. It was a good idea, when writing the show, having someone who was decent and wasn't filthy rich as one of the main characters. This is an enjoyable scene, especially the staff listening in. That final touch of Linda Evans dropping the clipboard on the counter (raising a little cloud of flour) was perfect. My only criticism of this is that the kitchen is ridiculously small for such a mansion. You can barely walk around without bumping into someone/something.
She tried to be friends, he declined and she's sure not going to be disrespected or taking shit from him, so......he asked for it. I wouldn't have suggested a raise though
I don't think she did. I think she just said it to remind him where his paycheck comes from and who has power over it. He acted like he didn't get it. I definitely would have tried to get along with her. If mama ain't happy....
He was trying to kill Alexis because of her treatment of Kirby and Alexis threatened to tell Kirby about her insane mother. Krystle had the misfortune of being in the same place.
Joseph to me was gay. I was always expected him to be peaking out the windows at Jeff at the pool in his speedos. Now that would have made a great scene.
Yes, I think he was in love with Blake and one of the reasons he disliked Krystle! I think he committed perjury for Blake too. Like most Dynasty characters, he was most interesting in season one and two
Joseph made the mistake of taking Krystle's kindness for weakness. She tried to be diplomatic and friendly, but Joseph was having none of it. As Krystle said, he was being "rude, petty, and insubordinate". Therefore, she put away the carrot and brought out the stick. She reinforced the facts that she is the mistress of the house, that Joseph works for her and her husband, and he must do as she says. I am glad that she put Joseph in his place. He deserved it. I also like seeing Joseph looking so flummoxed after Krystle left the room.
im usually not a fan of Krystle, but I agree w/ her laying down the law w/ Joseph. He was very pompous. She tried being nice, & friendly to him, & he just wouldn't give her anything in return. #Dynasty
joseph could have humbly explained the existence of politics and infighting and explain the logistics of who's infighting and allied to whom, and why. Krystle would have been much more receptive then. Attitude Joseph. An i understand you desire for that Madam, but may i humbly say..m
Joseph reminds me of The Housekeeper in Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca. Very territorial and can't stand seeing a "New" Woman as Mistress of The Manor. Also, he reminds me of John Amos The Butler in the Dollangager Series who knew about The Children from Day One after his Cousin Olivia told him. I think that in his own way Joseph may have had a Pre-Bromance with Blake. Also whenever a new Woman comes on the scene things get ugly. Remember when Lamar Odom marries Khloe Kardashian after a brief courtship and his Friend Jamie got upset and angry. Jamie hated the fact that Lamar "made it" in Basketball and he didn't, and when Lamar gave him a Job, he screwed it up, then they both paid. Jamie dies of an overdose and Lamar became a recovering addict who's a D List Sports Has Been. He's like The Bobby Brown of Sports with a major downfall.
vistaprime I think that's just a response to the notion that John Forsythe actually looks YOUNGER later on in the series. During the 1st season, Blake often looked more "haggard"
John Forsythe suffered a heart attack and had quadruple bypass surgery before filming "Dynasty". He was gaunt during season one (you can see how thin he is at the very end of this scene) but gained weight and was more vigorous during subsequent seasons. I don't believe he ever had plastic surgery.
Don't know if it was a face-lift; but there was a definite attempt after season one to make Blake Carrington "softer" in look and character... Blake was pretty ruthless in S1... he raped Krystle, befrated his gay son Steven, unleashed his dogs on Walter Lankershim etc...
Man, I forgot how great these scene was. Krystal tried her best to be polite and diplomatic but Joseph insisted on being petty and insolent. It left Krystal no choice but to pull rank. Good for her. Joseph was being a b!tch. lol
It's a point of view, but could any character have garnered any modicum of sympathy from the viewer after raping Krystle and violently attacking Ted Dinard had it not been played by John Forsythe?
I understand her need to show authority and Joseph wasn't acting appropriate. However, I do wonder if considering how long he has been doing his job and the subtle politics and infighting between business and family, that certain seating was arranged for benefits and politeness rather than enjoyment? Since she doesn't really understand that yet, she could have caused some... unpleasantness and hostility between the very rich and powerful people.
So she threatens to sack him just because he wants to do his job that he's been doing for years without interference, it's not like Krystal has to significantly pull her weight to make a living.
a stupid scene.....the is condesending n rude n insubordinate to her in ear shot of other staff members n she takes him back into the kitchen only to tell him that she is going to recommend him for a raise...WTF!!!!...how about josheph...do u like ur job here?...if you do i suggest you get with program...QUICK!!!...effective immediatly...i am placing you on an 8 week probation.
I always hated Krystal as a character. She was the nasty one not Alexis. The way she treats Joseph is disgusting. I wish it was Joseph who had put her down. I do not like Linda Evans nor her nasty Krystal character.
Miranda, I supposed you would like it better if Krystal to let the Staff walk all over her and be a complete wimp. I mean come on, you shouldn't let anyone walk all over you. Krystal had enough of being treated in a disrepectfull way. Joseph had it coming.
LInda Evans was fantastic as Mrs. Carrington.
LMAO!! Lay down that law Krystle. "Do you like your job?" 🤣🤣🤣

Joseph is so BAD ASS. LOVE JOSEPH!......
It was a power play on Joseph's behalf. And he realized that he had none.
God I LOVED how she turned on a dime...it's like all of a sudden she realized.. "I'm the HBIC" and went straight into slay mode.

Exactly- it was hard for her to do that
That butler had the nerve and didn’t know his place lol
But when Alexis did it, she kept him in his place
Sometimes one can't be nice, you have to take charge!
How I MISS this show.
It's just so hard to find good help!!
Does anyone's think Krystle's looks a bit like Doris Day the way she's looks at Joseph?
It's funny, I always thought Doris Day and Krystle could have been sisters or maybe Doris could have played Krystle's mother.
She is a beautiful woman inside and out. Those cheekbones and eyes. Stunning.
Blake just pulls out an expensive necklace & earring set & hands of to Krystle who he finds sitting in the hallway. Shades of Aaron & Candy Spelling.
Lisa Lund that’s right, my kind of man😂😂😂
I sways loved when Krystal showed her backbone and stood up for herself
Love the background music, it's also the theme song for new Dynasty
That's the bridge from the original show's theme (by Bill Conti) which was then used as the main theme for the new show.
Krystle drop the sitting order straight to the flour. Excellent statement from her!:)
@Bandido894 Yes Krystle was the new lady of the mansion but Joseph was there for years and ran the household for years before she EVER got there
The song and as she walks down the Hall!!! Ha
Although Alexis was the intended target, this scene would explain why Joseph did not care that Krystle was also in Steven's cabin before he locked it and set it on fire in the season finale of 1983.
This scene was foreshadowing of when Alexis was in the kitchen giving orders and Krystle walked in and said, "Follow me"....
You know the staff was gloating of how she put that haughty queen in his place!
