Good call on the base, it looks great. An idea for your show; a Maple Burl sphere with a live edge ring left around the center like a planets rings and a Burl base shaped like a ball vise base
love it, nice job. I will try to tune in for the live next Saturday. You know what my suggestion is - a bowl for the Empty Bowls project to turn in at the Oregon Woodturning Symposium!
Love the hummingbird Carl. I end up feeding a bunch of them all summer long. An idea for your live show, how about a combo kitchen scoop and spatula? There seems to be a emphasis on cooking this time of year.
Very cool project Carl! I sure would have liked to have seen how you attached The Hummingbird to the flower. Perhaps A smaller piece of skewer? A small drill bit in a Dremel? Seems like it may have been the trickiest part of the project.
Hummingbird central here at the Marshbird cafe, Robin. They go through as much as 24 cups of nectar per day here, after the babies fledge in late July. I’ll have to send you guys a video of one of my feeders sometime. For the live show, how about a Gonk? That would be a cute and fun project!
That's crazy Matt!! We have four or five that hang out here all year round. I love them so much!! I would love to see your video! You can send it to jacobson68@yahoo.com
That's really cool but things like that give me ideas that I wonder about. Like a tiny amount of iridescent power in clear resin painted on the bird to simulate feathers and the same transparent resin over something with an arched shape that the resin could be peeled off of when it cures for the wings. Maybe several of those for each wing to simulate the blur of their movement! That sounds like a lot of work but I wonder 😅 anyway all the best to you ☺️
Very nice work, drilling holes 🕳️ looked a bit scary,
Well done Carl! We have hummers at our feeders all summer long! Amazning birds! 👍👍
Thank you Steve!! That's awesome, we love them too.
Giving me ideas. Thanks to Robin for making you make it.

It is Osage orange
I have hummers here until it gets cold. Could never figure out where they go?
If you keep feeding them they'll stay all winter. We put fresh juice in twice a week. We made little heaters to make sure they don't don't freeze.
@ What are the heaters? I will try to make them.
a bird without wings ??
Shouldn't your colour it completely black first, sand that a bit off and then go for the colours ?
You could do it that way too
