- Middlesbroughs wheels are in danger of falling off as the end of the season approaches and every point counts. After defeat and a draw on the road at Leicester and Millwall, Boro now had Watford at home and what should have been three points. Boro were on course when they took the lead late in the second half through Ian Baird who got on the end of his own flick-own to prod his team in front. Watford though who had several very handy players in their ranks including a very young David James, a very angular Glenn Roeder and a very future Boro signing Paul Wilkinson. It was their substitute Gary Porter who curled in a free kick to make it 1-1 and then in the final minute David Byrne ran unchallenged to the edge of the Boro penalty area and picked out the top corner with a great shot. Ipswich and Blackburn next for Boro over the Easter period and some points needed to get back up the table.
