  • Another 3-3 thriller at Ayresome Park but valuable points dropped again by Middlesbrough. A very strong Southampton team featuring up-and-coming talents such as Razor Ruddock, a pre-pubescent Alan Shearer, A load of Wallaces plus seasoned hard nuts like Jimmy Case, Glenn Cockerill and WW2 veteran John Burridge came to Ayresome Park and took a 3-1 lead from being a goal down. The hero of the previous home match, Gary Gill had limped off having tried to play on with a broken leg and Boro looked beaten. However late goals from Bernie Slaven and Mark Burke salvaged a point in a thrilling end to the game but Boro could really have done with all three.
Look out for an entertaining touch-line dust up after Gary Parkinson is stamped on. The young Boro upstarts are certainly no respecters of reputations as Stuart Ripley gets ready to swing at Jimmy Case who is so hard, he only semi connected with a half hearted slap!

Middlesbrough always seem to get a rough deal in relegation battles, whereas their opponents from this match have to be the jammiest relegation avoider going (even more than Coventry City).
Would still say Middlesbrough are the bigger club of the 2, just nowhere near as flukey in avoiding the drop every year. And with the far more passionate fans - where exactly were the away fans for this match? Back at home on their father's yacht by the look/sound of it.
