The watch community and the hate for quartz movement is hilarious. Edit: 99.9% of the people out in the real world have no clue what a quartz vs automatic watch is, at the end of the day you're purchasing a beautiful, elegant and timeless watch that comes with a lot of history and pedigree. You also completely forgot to mention that the quartz movement is done in house by Cartier and they managed to double the battery life from 3 yrs to 6 yrs.
True, for this piece quartz is more than acceptable. No seconds and cartier is more about jewellery than other brands. I like mechanical movements, but the ones from top of the game like A Lange and Sohne. What they do is truly amazing. For every day use quartz is better 99.9% of the time.
@@storck08 Exactly. Would an ETA 2824 (or whatever) be that much better than the in-house quartz here? I don’t think so. In fact, I’m getting to like the convenience, thinness and price of quartz watches more and more lately.
I agree. Especially since on half of the mechanical watches you can't see the movement anyway. So you're just getting a less accurate, bulkier watch that requires more maintenance.
I tryed on a Santos with a bracelet for first time in person at the Cartier botique while I was in Philly I was pretty impressed, more so than I thought I would this is one of those watches you have to see in person to appreciate.
It has two hands, so quartz is preferred. Remember that the cheapest quartz is 99 times out of 100 STILL more accurate than the most prestigious automatic. Quartz is simply superior on the accuracy front. Agreed on price though.
Exactly my take. You're obviously paying for the Cartier name, but ultimately this is a luxury piece. I'm a fan of the proportions, and I like how the quartz means it's going to be hands off for maintenance.
So a $200 difference maybe between a quartz and an ETA based movement, which is about 5% of the RRP and the value is questioned. How much would you pay more for that $300 movement?
@@ryanowen3026 there is more like a $20-40 difference between ETA and Qartz. You are quoting a retail price for a single ETA movement. Mass production is no more than 10-20% of that
Hey nice review! do you know if it able to change the strap to a aligator black strap for a Santos? i really like this design but I would like to play with the straps. Thanks.
With a 6 yr battery life it's even better than a mechanical or automatic that u would have to service anyways that would cost a lot..imho it's the perfect grab and go watch u can definitely pull it off with jeans and a tee shirt for a night out on the town
@@mazrashid6549 he's just parroting the same hate he's read from the watch snub community to sound cool. @Steven Leonard no sir, this is a proper dress watch, you wear this to a dinner party in a suit or sports jacket, dress pants and a proper pair of shoes. @@valdencorr2861 Can't agree. Yes, that strap is dressy, but with a strap change to some grey or brown nubuck type this can become more elegant everyday piece easily.
I’ve got plenty of watches and definitely starting to turn to better quarts movements V.S ETA movements. It’s not like your getting in house movements.
@@mcchocolito4326 Wow, thanks for the information, I don't have any reason to doubt you. Just very bummed out that my metal Tank Solo doesn't have a real sapphire (part of the reason why I cherish it). What a bummer.
The big problem here is that it's a cheap basic quartz movement, for 4 grand. In the imaginary fairy world where Cartier threw in a thermo compensated, high accuracy, solar quartz movement, at the same price, then I think It would be justified.
Why? Because a quartz movement is typically more accurate, thinner, and lasts as long as a mechanical movement. To snob quartz is to convey one's lack of true watch knowledge. The most accurate watch in the world is a quartz watch, the Citizen 0100. I'd strongly recommend you watch Hodinkee (yes, THE Hodinkee) video on it. Then there are also the renowned Grand Seiko Spring Drive quartz hybrid movements with insane accuracy and silky smooth second hand sweep. As for this specific Cartier's movement, I'd be remiss not to point out that it is an in-house one, hand finished, with high tech engineering to allow for 6 year battery replacement intervals... in a world where quartz watches nowadays still only run for about 3 years in between battery replacements. This watch is not little Timmy's quartz Casio
damieg82 good for you collect quartz watches not my cup of tea accuracy what a few seconds people make to much of it who cares it a watch is a few seconds off
On the contrary, quartz in fine watches is gaining popularity. I already have many automatics and hand wind, I have no problem wearing a quartz. It is a tech marvel, and just because it is cheaper to make doesn’t mean it’s not a tech marvel.

Automatic or manual is more history than quartz
@@ZixacunX Quartz is just as important as Automatic. Ever heard of the Quartz Crisis? It literally brought the watch world to a standstill.

99% of the people won't know who Santos Dumont was, what he did and how important he is in history
Then he's probably not significant enough for everyone to know.
Heva Naisdey lmao
This is the bigger of the two sizes, right?
I‘m very enthusiastic about it tbh. Since it doesn’t have a jumping second Quarz doesn’t bother me at all.

This is not like any other quartz it is inhouse customised quartz just for dumont thats why you get 6 years from the battery

It’s fucking OVERPRICED. Usual greedy Cartier selling overpriced crap. U can get a very very good automatic Tag Heuer or Longines at that price point.

It is not a Saphir... the Saphir itself would be 5 times more then the watch
i don't know what kind of fucking logic that is. the cartier louise tank uses real saphir and that tank in quartz cost 9k
