    As Mary Quant once said “if a woman is badly dressed, you remember the dress, when a woman is impeccably dressed, you remember the woman”.
    Watches and people are exactly the same, you wear watches with effortless class, but many owner-collectors of high-end watches don’t do the watches justice. Kudos mate, kudos.

    Hi Max, anything made by Cartier is always elegant and classy. They always do a great design job.
    By the way, several years ago I visited the little house Santos Dumont had in Petropolis, Brazil. A place full of history. There were pictures of the flimsy wood and fabric planes he built. Those were times of pioneering and brave men indeed. Well deserved that Cartier has dedicated a watch to him. Thank you for the video!

    Thanks for the video, excellent review on the Santos Dumont and the difference between the Sport Watch and a Dress Watch. I love the mechanical watch and I do collect mechanical watches, including Cartier’s however, I chose the Santos Dumont Large model not only because of size, Because of the autonomy quartz movement of ~ 6 years. This a great achievement for Cartier on improving the quartz technology to achieve such a long power reserve and even more on these day with other models. Some of the mechanical watches power reserve are limited ( 36-48 hours), specially, when your time is limited and you need to grab and go the watch back to work after the weekend. Again, I love mechanical watches and I enjoyed but , this model is a perfect example of classic, simplicity, craftsmanship and history, a watch that symbolize the first wrist watch for Aviators since 1904 by Cartier and also, a practical timepiece with such a beauty and history.

    • @WatchCrunchOfficial
      @WatchCrunchOfficial  2 роки тому +1

      Exactly! Quartz isn't all bad, just have to think about the type of quartz and if it fits the purpose of the watch. I still don't know what "high-autonomy" means though 😅

    Wow, this Santos completely fixes the issues I've had with the Santos de Cartier. I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetics of the bracelet the Santos de Cartier comes on, thought it was a bit bulky and I didn't feel like spending almost 7000 euros on a watch that was really cool but just missed the mark slighty for me. This version looks sleeker with the thinner bezel and is 3000 euros cheaper?! What! The real question is going to be if I want the small or large version. I happened to be waiting for coffee recently and noticed a guy wearing a Santos. I'd not actually seen one in the metal before. Elegance is the descriptor that came to mind, and it went very well with the sort've arty buis/cas sartorial vibe the guy had. For me at 6'4“-ish with an ~ 8” wrist, elegance is not easily achieved!, my loss: a great looking (and well worn neo-vintage heirloom on this occasion) piece - if one has the frame and style to match.

      I think a screw down crown is optional for anything not dive or otherwise water focused, but I definitely prefer it. My PRX lacks the screwdown crown, but I've inadvertently taken some trips into the water and ocean with it and never had a real worry or felt I needed to stop and get out to remove it
      But I think if wound up dunked into the ocean with any watch with a 50m or lower rating I'd probably be actively trying to not panic and fleeing immediately back to the boat

    “Leisure watch” makes so much more sense. Nobody brings a Sub into the water because they need to bring a Sub in the water, or an Explorer on a mountain-to name 2 popular ‘sport’ watches.

    The small version was perfect on your wrist, much as Panerai are supposed to look big on your wrist I always see Cartier as a small watch purposely designed to look elegant. If I could add a design suggestion to make it look even classier I would add a date, a cyclops and a helium escape valve.

      Yeah Morgan you nailed something I've noticed. The small cartiers have better dial spacing, with the bigger ones leaving more unsightly empty space between the numerals and the center of the dial 👍

    Excellent review of a beautiful watch.
    I think the Cartier Santos-Dumont is much more a dress watch rather than a sport watch.
    An automatic or mechanical movement is still better than a quartz movement for a luxury watch, no?

    Fantastic thought-provoking video Max! Seems a bunch of the more interesting 'tubers are watching YOU. For mine the Santos is an "everyday"/office watch, not a sports watch. Is it both, is it neither? You could say the same about a Rolex OP. Dumont knows what it is - a dress watch, and the idea of it having been to finishing school is a great one! Folks can decide for themselves about long-life quartz at this price level. Does look expensive against Tank Must XL with the same auto as the Santos Medium for less less money though.

    For a while i thought the Santos was the first wrist watch. Untill an employee at Cartier told me this was. Sadly, as much as i am inlove with history behind a watch, i am bummed to find out the Santos isnt the original, the Dumont is. Thanks for the review though! No need to feel bummed as your Santos is a version of the Santos Dumont watch. There never was a Dumont watch, it was the Santos Dumont that was the first wristwatch and it still looks very much like your Santos. Enjoy your Santos as it is a truly special watch.

    Hi Max, l like your video 🙂 I went to Cartier boutique and saw a few Santos de Cartier, honestly somehow they did not impress me that much until the sales consultant brought out the Santos Dumont, it looks great and I instantly like it. I like the history and its sleek design. The only aspect of this watch which is holding me back is that the price for a quartz is rather steep. Other than high autonomy quartz with long battery life, is there any other aspects that would make the quartz used in this watch “higher quality” compared to other quartz movements?
