I love your reactions Mason. Do not worry about negative comments. Sadly, it goes with the territory on digital platforms. You come over as genuine which is endearing. Also you have intelligence and you bring that to your reactions. Its all good bro. 👍

So this is a cover of a 1929 track by Memphis Mini and Kansas Joe McCoy, so it's nearly 100 years old! Written about a massive floud in the mississipi delta. Led Zeppelin recorded the drum in the entrance hall of a British Mansion Home, and is widely regarded as one of the best Rock Drum recordings ever made. The final track had some tweaking to get everything to come together with the kit available at the time. Great reaction dude, just keep doing your thing your way!
Hey we were the same way you are right now, 50 years ago, we didnt know what to expect from Led ZEPPY, our body language, our freaken ears, it was FABULOUS!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK GOING DOWN THE GODS OF ROCK AND ROLL RABBIT HOLE❤☘️🎶💃💃
Great reaction!! So happy you are getting into Led Zeppelin - my favorite band. A little background on this blues/rock song: it is a cover, with some tweaks of a song by Memphis Minnie and her husband Kansas Joe McCoy (written in 1929) about a massive flood in Mississippi the spring of 1927. Robert Plant is playing the harmonica. The drums and John Bonham are everything in this song. It was recorded at Headley Grange, an old mansion in England. His drums are placed in the entry way with a three story stairwell. The sound is so huge in part because of the reverb of the sound in the stairwell. They hung two mikes up on the first floor over Bonham’s kit to catch that sound. The instruments are slowed down, and some of it is produced backward to give it a swampy feeling. Some of the harmonica is backwards too. There is a lot more to this masterpiece. One of Led Zeppelin’s best IMHO.
Just remember that this is YOUR channel. React to what you want. You be you. If someone has something negative to say, they are welcome to go somewhere else. You have a beautiful smile. That says everything about how you feel for what you're hearing. Us older folks had to learn to let negative stuff roll off our backs, and go on with our lives. Be strong! I love your channel!
I saw Zeppelin in 73 or 74. What a great show. This song, with Jon’s drumming made the show. We were about 10 rows from the stage. I’ll never forget, and still have the ticket just incase I forget.😂
It's so fresh to see a young man as yourself enjoying the music I was brought up listening to and going to concerts was just what you did. It was almost a sin to miss one, God bless and keep on Rocking 🎉 ps try some Robin Trower off the Bridge of Sighs the song Too Rolling Stoned
Don't listen to anybody who criticizes what you are doing, or how you are doing it. You already know that, but some people have nothing better to do than to make you doubt yourself. Stay strong, sir. You are an amazing young man.
That's Robert killing it on harmonica. You're right, bass and drums work together as the rhythm section to hold it down and give that steady beat...and the very heavy sound of Bonhom's drumming, which I heard somewhere was recorded in a stairwell to amplify it, comes through with almost an ominous feeling, like a funeral dirge. It's a foreboding song about a great flood in the Mississippi delta during the depression era, that drowned many and drove others out to find work, notably in Chicago. The delta blues music was carried to Chicago along with the people who left. I love your reactions Mason, you've got a natural understanding for music so stay with it!
Great Reaction, you are really leaning into what makes the 60s and 70s the greatest time for music! It was the pure talent displayed! Music, lyrics, and performance. Next for some Zeppelin versatility, try "Ramble On", "Going to California", so much more!
Love that you're not falling into the same rut as other reviewers of overreacting during the song as a cloying attempt at winning you over. Just stick with the way you would act if you were all alone listening to it in your house. Groove with it if you feel the urge or not. And for the places where you truly feel the music is launching you reacting is great, just overdoing it like we see so often is a real buzz kill. The moment it seems fake, it poisons the places where it is actually authentic. Thanks again for doing it natural, man.
We are all here to watch your true reaction to great music most of us already know and grew up with, and your experience to great music that is totally new to you! Nothing more annoying than watching someone who is acting (and not all that well) to make us think they are really enjoying what they are hearing ! Many are so very obvious and over the top with it. We remember where we were when we heard this for the first time, whether it be the radio or a vinyl that we saved and saved for to buy... And to see someone young actually listening to this amazing natural talent that these bands have, takes many of us back to when we first heard it ourselves. I love seeing young people appreciate the talent these artists have. You are doing a great job, forget the haters... no one is perfect and no one expects perfect.
Yay! So happy you checked out “when the levee breaks”! Great that you picked up how John Bonham is so steady and heavy on the drums. He’s one of the greatest drummers of all time. I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Somewhere in the Bible(or somewhere heh) mentions something akin to 'We are always being refined.' Or the idea of perpetually becoming. Of which, I quite like the idea. 😊 Gives us another perpetual chance too. Thanks Universe! And ty for reacting to the boys.
😂😂😂 You made me laugh by naming the members of the band... But BRAVO!!! It's cool !!! You have them all!!! 👍 You can listen to all Led Zeppelin albums, you won't be disappointed!!! I have almost all their vinyl albums (Pink Floyd too)
The song is about the great Mississippi flood of 1927 and was written by someone who witnessed it. Plant changed some words and added some but that is the context.
This is a cover of a very old Blues song about a true, huge flood of the Mississippi Delta and how many African Americans from the South moved North (they say 'Going to Chicago' in the song) in part because of the flood. So it's a very literal song in the meaning of uprooting your life to move North, which many people did, in part due to a natural disaster.
...and John Paul Jones on Bass Guitar, Keybords, Mandolin, and probably a few other instruments I forgot about! If you like blues, check out "The Lemon Song," "Since I've Been Loving You," "I Can't Quit You Baby," "You Shook Me," "Bring It On Home," "Ramble On"... All GREAT songs by Zeppelin!
You got the names right. John Paul Jones is the bassist, but he also played the keyboards. And on this specific track, Robert Plant played the harmonica.
Robert Plant’s harmonica on this is absolutely incredible. With Bonham’s drums it’s…well…what can you say about something so inspired. One of the many great Led Zeppelin songs.
I think you would enjoy hearing LZ'S Dazed and Confused, then there's The Rain Song for something totally different. To be honest you're best bet is to start from album 1 track 1 and go on from there 😊 I don't mind the pauses, I understand you have to do it.
As someone who is about to turn 51 I just want to tell you how much I love seeing the younger generation discovering and enjoying the music that I grew up with. It really warms our old hearts to watch people in their teens and 20's have their minds blown 🤯 by the music that bkew our minds back in the day. It's really a testament to just how great the musicians were back then and how well the music still holds up today. Not that there isn't any good music being made these days, it's just not as abundant and not as accessible since the formats of FM radio and MTV have been replaced by streaming on the internet which is more targeted to individual niche listeners where you are less likely to be exposed to the good music of today if you're not already in that little niche market. Anyway, to make a long story short, I just want to encourage you and all the other young content creators reacting to music to keep on digging deeper, searching, exploring and enjoy the ride of learning about all of the great music from the golden age of rock music. 🎶🎸🤩
Listen to the original version of this song to get an appreciation for the Zeppelin version. They say that Zeppelin just copies songs but what they have done is much more.
Yes, the bottom sound in music, all music (think about ti), carries the rest of the melody along with vocals and solos. Great "JOURNEY" so far and appreciate you.
This album came out as I was graduating from high school when I was a bass player in a couple of garage bands (I'm now 67). This song was the least of my favorites, until I grew up. This song is monumental LZ, especially due to John Bonham's iconic drumming. His drumming, while not flashy or intricate, is perfect in it's style and apprpropriateness. Mozart, Bach, and Bheetoven would agree.
Check out You Shook Me, the song is bluesy with a great guitar / vocal follow. It's one of my favorites. Black Dog, due to the time signatures, was considered by the band, very difficult to play. They made this music in the late 60s to early 70s before the sophistication that exists today. They were truly masters of their craft. Keep up the good work.
I think you're doing a great job. I love watching you younger people react to music from the 60s and 70s those were great years great experimentation with music and recording
I love your reactions, cuz you really "Get It" about music. Ever since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, this song reminds me of how desperate they must've felt standing on the roofs of their houses wondering if they were going to survive.
You should do "Since I've Been Loving You" next. Please do the studio version (sounds so much better than the live). Like Stairway to Heaven, the song is other level and will blow you away. Truly, one of the greatest achievements in audio recording history. Again, studio version please! Peace
I like your channel bro. You are hitting alot of the old great stuff that blew our minds back in the day. Robert Plant is such an underrated harmonica player. Funky as hell
I love your reactions. Don’t let any negative comments get you down. For a great songwriter who loves experimenting with different instrumentation, try Paul Simon. Either as a solo artist with “Call Me Al” from his Graceland album or with his duo Simon and Garfunkle - I recommend The Boxer, Scarboro Fair/Canticle, and Bridge over Troubled Waters ( live in Central Park)
This is a country blues song from 1929 that LZ made their own. Many british bands got influenced by and recorded older blues songs in the 60´s. If you want to get knowledge about that influence check out John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, including over the years Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac), Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones, Jack Bruce Band), Danny Kirwan (Fleetwood Mac), John McVie (Fleetwood Mac), Ansley Dunbar (Frank Zappa and the Mothers), Jon Hiseman and Dick Heckstall-Smith (Colosseum). The birthplace of the british invation in music.
Though the live of When The Levee Breaks is great, the studio for the drum beat is the best. Bonham’s drums were setup in the entrance of a 3 story place called Headley Grange, with microphones hanging above different levels. A closer description would be the massive flood that hit New Orleans, when the levee broke there, I’m not sure if you remember the horror of that. You could look it up if not, I can’t remember what year it was, but in the 2,000. You do your reactions how you want, I know you need to stop, as long as it isn’t over stopping. Try not to during a Page solo, they are epic. Great job young man, I’m enjoying your reactions, & keep enjoying the greatest band to ever grace us with music.

Can't forget Robert plant on that mean harmonica! And this song is about the great Mississippi flood that happened in the 1800's! Many people died and lost their homes!
All their songs are amazing, here’s a couple standouts. Kashmir* The Rain Song* In My Time Of Dying* Achilles Last Stand* I suggest lives, their lives are amazing. I’m not sure if you saw, Since I’ve Been Loving You, live at Madison Square Gardens (1973). Lives from MSG are epic, Kebworth (probably spelled wrong) is other great lives.
If you want to go on a journey check out their studio versions of No Quarter ❤and Battle of Evermore ❤ Both are beautifully arranged. In The Light ❤is another great one too.

This was an old blues song, about a flood in 1927, getting the Led Zep treatment.
The two versions are very different. The Led Zeppelin song has drums and harmonica.
Yes, many British bands made rock songs out of US blues songs...💓🎶🎵
