  • Kristin and Rick say they are concerned their 15-year-old son, Robbie, may be a pedophile. Kristin says her stepson admitted to her that he had strong sexual urges toward children over a year ago.
TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Chaos in your life?
“He said the only reason he hadn’t offended them was because they were going to tell,” says Kristin.

Rick says, “It was just such a shock that I didn’t know how to deal with it.”
The couple says they began supervising Robbie 24/7 and tried to find him a treatment facility placement. Then, says Kristin, Robbie threatened that if he didn’t get help that day - he would rape one of his siblings, “So we took him straight to the hospital.”
Kristin and Rick say Robbie has been in treatment for the past year and is due to come home soon, and they don’t know what to do. Can Dr. Phil help?

At the same time, he had come clean about everything, no doubt due to the phenomenal parenting of his step-mom. This behavior is almost certainly due to abuse inflicted by his previous father-figure. I feel that there should be no reason that this behavior can not be purged, but the system does not seem to be interested in that.

Think about brain like a democratic system of neurons that each gives a vote before making a decision as a whole brain. There are no 100% bad people. Its always a "bad" part of the brain that hijacks the rest. Therapist ussualy want to make the good part of the brain take control over the bad part in problematic individuals. ♡ Some people use Dr. Phil because they have tried everything within their resources. As you can see in this video their child has been recieving psychiatric treatment and is living in a facility. The parents are unhappy with his situation but it is the best they can do with the resources that they have. I think in part they are attempting to spread awareness and reduce the stigma, so other parents who are suffering with similar situations can feel less lonely and have some guidance. However they are also seeking for a better solution and hoping, perhaps naively, that Dr. Phil can provide them with more resources or answer. As you can see, they are good parents, and this is a particularly shameful topic, so you can imagine they must have been particularly desperate to ask for help on TV.

By going on Dr. Phil and making it extremely easy for people to discern his identity? The kid is the one I commend. He's having these thoughts and urges that he knows are wrong, and it took a lot of humility and courage for him to tell someone. It really amazes me that the parents didn't put him in treatment immediately. He had to tell them he was going to act on those urges unless they got him help right then. I don't like the fact that they went on Dr. Phil. People can figure out who he is, especially in their hometown. Now, even if he never acts on those urges, he's going to be treated like a criminal.

At such a young age you can become obsessed with sexual ideation when the body is surging with hormones. If this child was left to his own on the internet this could become worse. Once the child becomes used to getting satisfaction from daydreaming about these ideas it would be really difficult to break this thought pattern which provides pleasure but it all started with obsessive thoughts.

I also hate this American culture of bringing personal stories OF OTHER PEOPLE on the news and internet. Maybe it's good if stories like this are told, but only if the person you're talking about is ok with it and wants to talk about it themselves. Since this is a child, that just can't be the case here. And you really should be able to either find adults who have went through it or a psychologist.
I also don't like how this is portrayed in general. The music and the cuts and effects are so overdramatic that it looks more like an episode of the onion than anything we should talk about seriously. It's such an important topic, we need better coverage than this. Stop focusing on individuals like this for drama, show what causes this, what the symptoms can be and what to do about it.
