- Robbie, 15, has been living in a mental health facility for the past year. The teenager admits he has sexual urges toward children and has confessed to molesting two victims.
TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Teen in crisis?
Robbie’s parents, Rick and Kristin, say that Robbie, who is about to be released from treatment, has told them that he is likely to re-offend. Noting that they have five other children, the couple says they can’t bring Robbie home and don’t know where to turn.

Dr. Phil introduces the couple to Dr. Daniel Sanderson, a psychologist and Clinical Director at STAR Guides Wilderness, a program that works exclusively with adolescents who are experiencing issues with compulsive sexual behaviors.
“Let’s don’t give up on this kid yet,” says Dr. Sanderson, who has offered Robbie an opportunity to take part in the program.

People need to realize this isn’t just an isolated case. Hyper-sexualization in children is a huge problem that can cause uncontrollable sexual behavior.
And it also has many causes that we have yet to identity and control, like how porn is so easily accesible for children, sexual focus in the entertainment industry, internet predators, lack of proper sexual education, mental health issues, and god knows what else.
I'd like to point out that it's more likely that easy acess to pornography and other mental health issues caused by trauma during early childhood might be the key factors to hypersexualization in young teenagers. It's more likely because most of the times when I've came across another kid like that they admit that they either have watched too much porn (tbf I do believe that porn itself is a negative thing since it affects everyone) or that they have been m0lested. one of my friends is like this, I can see this pattern happening in his situation too.
this doesn't come out of nowhere.
@@reoij there’s total lack of education on porn. The industry uses tricks but what the audience see looks real, but it’s not. Guys are shot with a bunch of drugs, girls have also medication and make-up even on their genitals, there’s so much people don’t know.
@@reoij so trauma creates truama
The scientific literature on the damaging effects of porn are beginning to show and it’s been so surpirse to me since I went through the addiction myself. It made me feel dead inside, I wasn’t “me” anymore I felt so much shame and anxiety. I started to isolate myself even from family. Its not good. Especially when 12 years olds can find it on their ipads like I did.

Being a survivor of molestation as a child myself....these parents are amazing and strong. They have not swept it under the rug at all. This boy needs help for the rest of his life v and needs to be monitored and never around any children.
You don’t know that. He may be able to recover.
Antimon he needs help but statistically there’s no forsure way to know if he’ll re offend. With pedoohiles.. even younger ones.. the goals are therapy and keeping them away from children for a very very very long time or even forever. I truly hope he can get his urges controlled so it’s not hard for him as he gets older
@@Titantimon being punished by staying away from children forever is fair when you have two victims already and admit that you will likely reoffend.
@@Titantimon this isn't punishment for seeking help. It's caution because he has already molested two kids. I sure wouldn't use my kids as guinea pigs to see if he refrains from molesting them - would you?
@@Titantimon so you are taking the route of ignoring that he has victims? Hmmm methinks we've sniffed out a "map"
I look forward to a time where medical science progresses enough to understand this condition fully. As a society we only focus on punishment after offense - what about stopping it before it starts? It would be a nightmare to be attracted to children and not be able to help it (even if you never acted on it)... to find children sexually attractive would be incomprehensibly horrific living life like that.

Is say it’s more important that he doesn’t reoffend. Prison will be worse than a wilderness camp.
Wow you definitely just lied. Can you give statistics to back that statement because it sounds like fear monger omg. I’m not saying you’re purposely lying to people. But you definitely sound sheepish, like you read that in a Facebook post or something
James Doakes just google it. It’s all about accreditation. There have been a lot of “wilderness camps” where kids have been abused, starved, even died because they weren’t accredited programs. They’ve given the whole industry a bad name. I’m sure Dr. Phil uses a good place. But it’s not just a “Facebook post”, there are many many bad places.
The problem is he don’t fear and it’s because his parents don’t punish and scold him for his thoughts. He don’t fear them

He can’t ever have a normal relationship. I just don’t think those urges will ever go away. He should be watched and checked on or tracked. Since he already hurt 2 kids, from what I’ve read.

The sad thing is this is very common and this is, in some ways, the best reaction they could have. They did all the right things to protect others and help their son. Sexual violence against anyone: children, women, men..ruins lives. I’m glad they found a way for Dr. Phil to help them.
Thank you
He is going to learn to not say how he feels, so that people will let him roam free.
He is still very honest with me even when he doesnt want to be. He does manipulate others but then when I ask him he ends up admitting his real feelings and when his therapist asks why he doesnt tell her that stuff he says that he doesn't trust them. I don't know why he chose me but its been hard because I am not a therapist and its a lot of pressure to carry someone else's burdens

I hope this boy was able to get help. I can not imagine the strength it has taken this family to guide him to get help. Just have respect for these parents for doing the right thing. As a mom of a teenage boy, my heart just bleeds for them. They are doing all they can as parents.
This poor woman, this is so sad. She needs all the help she can get, a giant hug and a long cry. YOU ARE SO STRONG GIRL, and a GOOD MAMA
The amazing part about the woman is that she’s his stepmom and she still carries the weight of the whole family
If this boy wasn't already receiving treatment than where was he?? It terrifies me that they think that a child who's urges are that extreme could be sent to some camp for children with abnormal sexual urges for "targeted treatment" and then be safely released! Every part of the description of him is VERY DISTURBING on multiple levels and suggest that he's dangerous in more ways than one. Telling his parents might be a sign that on some level he does understand that his urges are bad and scary but that idea isn't consistent with the reports given to his parents... Sometimes people only openly admit to terrible things about themselves because they don't actually see the problem with them.
I exactly - those wilderness programs are suspicious
I honestly don’t think anything can change this boy.
I know this isn’t the focus but I couldn’t stop noticing how much weight she has lost

It's not all stress - some of it is health issues that I have struggled with over the years.
you keep going girl i’m only 16 but keep ur head up this is making me cry right now you keep going never give up!!!!
I saw where the mothers commented on the preview video that they did get him brain scans and they did polygraph test him. He was telling the truth about never having been abused and he didn’t have any neurological abnormalities. That just makes this situation all the more horrifying.
The thing with a polygraph is that you can think of something that isn’t true, but if you truly believe that it’s true, it will come up as you telling you the truth
If I hit my brother, but I truly believe that I didn’t hit him and I then take a polygraph test where they ask if I hit my brother, it doesn’t matter that it’ll be a lie bc I truly believe that I didnt
Also the thing about trauma is that it can be repressed, so maybe he was abused but it was so traumatic that his brain pushed it way down to protect him. This is how it manifests.
Natasha Kargbo yes! A polygraph test cannot pick up something that a person is unaware of. They have to have those memories brought to the surface through hypno-regression therapy.
Amilah some are born sick, this is true. But in this particular case a literal psychiatrist is saying that he shows signs of someone that has been abused. Not everyone has been abused, and with a little reading comprehension you might have figured that out instead of putting words in my mouth.
GOD BLESS this woman. I wonder how many women would stay with a man who has a child such as Robbie. I so admire her and her husband, for wanting help for their son, which I pray they get.
Thank you - when I said for better or worse I meant it
It must be so hard for her to deal with considering her experience. I hope Dr Phil can help them. Clearly they are not getting the support they need. The look in both parents' eyes that there might still be help for him. ❤
probably watched porn at a very young age or saw something of the sort at a young age. probably showed signs when he was younger that he learned about it way earlier than he should have. Poor kid. A lot of my childhood friends have been traumatized by the internet, a family friend, relative or teacher.
His bio mother sent him to a male family friend and he believes that guy did something to him. After his bio mother abandoned her kids and this woman married his father, she left something was weird about the relationship and she cut it off and completely put a stop to letting him go to that man's home. BUT his step father gave him porn and magazines at a very young age and he used that to act out on his victims.

How awesome these parents are. For their son to be able to go to them and tell them this is astonishing, they are making sure not only their kids but others are safe, not turning their backs and getting him help. Truly an amazing family, I wish them all the best.
Your brain changes after trauma... so yes, molested kids will have a lifelong effect from it... some become offenders while others struggle in other ways like with their sexuality, trust issues etc etc
80 % of people with substance abuse disorders have experienced sexual abuse. It definitely fuels addiction.
Yeah, but you’re still responsible for the choices you make.
agricolaregs true...but it is a scientific answer to why making the logical choices are difficult for these people. Not that it excuses any wrongdoing, but it’s something worth being researched if it is significantly hindering a persons neuroassociations and ability to reason properly 100% of the time. It may be possibly but extremely difficult. And humans are fickle creatures and we avoid pain and discomfort...all of us will most likely choose the easier route if provides because we operate under two basic instincts... to gain pleasure or avoid pain. Challenging the way your mind is wired takes an incredible amount of work and training. I feel that “normal” folks know this struggle and can relate to the difficulties of breaking bad habits and forming new, helpful ones. But there is no excuse to not put in the work, and it’s not a reason to not be held accountable for wrong decisions.
agricolaregs Yep. 💯
Krystle Kane I think societal expectations contribute as well. It sort of becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Society’s expectations lower for the abused. I saw a shrink when I was in middle school. Shrink told my mom it was a foregone conclusion...I would be on drugs and be promiscuous. Well, I’ve never touched drugs and I’ve slept with 1 guy, my husband. But people around me could’ve given into that idea and excuse behavior that didn’t happen yet. I’m almost normal.
That dude is such a hippy 😂 he even talks like a hippy in a movie would 😂

I really hope he’s doing well. Honestly this is such a tabo subject that I’m super glad dr Phil is covering it and doing so in a way that’s actually going to help others be honest with themselves and the people they love. That kid wouldn’t have said anything if he actually wanted to do those things. How scary it must be to be inside your head like that all the time. Knowing how wrong and horrible it is but not being able to stop it. Bless this woman and her heart. ❤️ I hope she’s out there feeling a little less of a burden and more hopefully for their future.

This is so incredibly sad. Those parents r so strong and need all the prays they can get along with Robbie
Call me a pessimist but I believe when somebody tells you who they are (much less shows you who they are), believe them the the first time. For example, as a kid, I knew I was different but my mother could pick up what that difference was: I showed signs of being gay. My mom is very religious, and unfortunately anti-gay, so she really was hard on me not to turn out that way. I really didn't know what "gay" was, after all, I'm just a kid. However, I wasn't a dumb kid. I quickly realized that if I exhibited "deviant" behavior, I got punished and treated differently from my other siblings. My acute awareness enabled me to adapt. I behaved "normally." It worked. I manipulated the situation to survive my environment and my unfavorable condition and treatment. Point I'm trying to make is what if this kid figures out that he could do the same thing? Parents (including my own) always underestimate their children. Their love and desire for them to turn out the way they hope in their minds clouds their judgment. I'm not saying to give up on the kid, but what I am saying is that sometimes nature creates people, including myself, who are just born and wired differently. The kid did his part by telling who he is and what he's capable of. It's up to everyone around him, including doctors, etc., to accept it. He will have to be monitored and treated for the rest of his life: There's nothing normal about him. Give up that hope, and he'll have a chance. If they're going to love him, they have to love him for who he is and not who they hope him to be. He's not a monster or a demon, he's just broken. Some broken things can't be fix.
Thank you for this explanation
Nothing will fix this kid. He has no empathy, that's a psychopath. Actually he's worse as he enjoys it. That's a serial killer. I do not believe anything can change that, definitely not talk therapy.
Serial killer implies he murdered more than one person i think the word you were trying to use is sadist
This is not true at all first of all serial killer means that he has killed before he has not stated he wants to kill. Second the fact that he told his parents speaks volume. He begged for help even, I don’t know a psychopath that does that. This was more than likely caused by trauma the man in his life that used to be obsessed with him caused him.
So you're just going to throw him away? This teenager has come to his parents for HELP and WANTS it. That speaks volumes. He knows its wrong and he wants to fix it. The relationship he has with his mother must be unboundless. What if this was your child? Are you just going to throw him away when he asks for help or is your love and determination going to get the help that he needs? It won't be easy. You'll have to talk and hear horrific things, but if you're a strong parent you'll endure the trials put upon your family and protect them. All of them. I have step children I'd do ANYTHING for. No matter what.
@@djstuntfox I'd kick this little freak out, move and never tell him where I moved to.

They often internalize and/or externalize stress reactions and as a result may experience significant depression, anxiety, or anger. Their emotional responses may be unpredictable or explosive. A child may react to a reminder of a traumatic event with trembling, anger, sadness, or avoidance.👍
trembling, anger, or avoidance is a lot better then wanting to violently rape little boys
