I think it is brilliant in that it handles tasks which normally would destroy a good soldering iron and so using a cheap one that is moded this way keeps your nice irone pristine.. Good job for sure!

2:55 yeah there's something called a "wire stripper". Not sure if you've heard of it

  • @sjeverett75
    @sjeverett75 7 років тому +48

glue gun cheaper than tips for my soldering iron. Knife is sharp enough to cut that syringe without heat. wire strippers don't have to be plugged in. you can seal a bag with a cigarette lighter. if you plan on replacing the components you removed in #1 you're better off with solder sucker or solder wick to clean up the thru holes as well.

glue gun is 100% not cheaper than tips. just spend a few bucks on a few feet of 6 gauge copper. you'll have tips for years. syringes are fairly durable plastic, the hot knife is better if you want clean cuts. some people can't strip wires for shit, and this is obviously for when you don't have strippers. not everyone has a cigarette lighter.

  • @YoungGunnaYGYG

    Easy way around all this:
Hack 1. Learn to desolder correctly. Get solder wick or a desoldering pump. Both are pretty cheap and easy to use.
Hack 2. Ever heard of wire strippers? Pretty cheap and useful tool made for this purpose.
Hack 3. A small hack saw works wonders at cutting down your opioid syringe.
Hack 4. Get a hot melt glue gun ya silly goof. They are cheap and made for this application. Plus you don't have to cut down hot melt glue sticks.
Hack 5. Zip-lock bags do the same thing and are reusable. Plus they take A LOT less time to close.
Instructions unclear. Replaced dick with soldering iron to heat things up in the bedroom.

The first 2 hacks get the component too hot if you are planning on reusing it. Melting plastic gives off toxic fumes that are very harmful to people and pets so if you are going to do this use adequate ventilation.

I like the desoldering idea. Too bad the led is melted beyond reuse. As for the other "hacks"... Most will RUIN your soldering tip and / or are pointless since a sharp knife, a small saw of a glue gun are cheaper and much better suited to the tasks.

I also figured it couldn't hurt to ask, is there any chance you might have any old tools or stuff for projects that you might be able to donate so that I can use them to make videos for my channel? I am disabled, homeless, and jobless. I'm trying my best just to survive and am living in an abandoned WWII bomb shelter. Any advice you have on how to build my channel would also be very appreciated.
Thank you so much for your time. Sincerely, "Your homeless friend Kai"

Notice here you probably need a variable power supply - none of this plastic was smoking. The idea is to MELT it. If you're smoking it, you're too hot. Turn the power down.
#1, handy if you use surface-mount devices, which are becoming more and more common.
#2, handy if you're using very fine wire.
#3, hot knife. Might be handy for plastic modelers who want to open car doors and trunk lids.
    #4, pretty useless to me.
#5, might be handy for resealing those "accessory" bags when returning the wrong part back to the auto parts store. Or you could just tape it shut because they're probably going to return it to the manufacturer anyway.

i do not recommend following any of these "hacks".. its rather a collection of bad ideas..
1:58 /copper rods are too thin and dont conduct enough heat to be usefull, so you made them very short, look how you damaged the desoldered part -> more bad ideas at once
2:51 /the paperclip doesnt conduct heat well because of material and its thin so it will work only for very thin wires even at such high temperature and most important thing is: this method produces toxic gases as you burn the isolation.. go buy a cable stripper..
4:00 /dont destroy the knife and cut the thin tube without making anythig to smell burning
5:06 /a very bad idea, soldering iron is too hot for this purposse so you are beathing toxic gases again(and it holds worse than with glue gun)
6:15 /lol? look at the remnants of tin from soldering iron tip on your luxury bag and the holes lol.. with bare hands..try to use a side of fork heated above cooker, it works a lot better than this..
