A new show within the OG continuity would work! Nostalgia is so strong right now for the OG series that I can’t believe Universal can be this clueless!
Only problem with an orginal BSG reboot is most of the orginal cast are dead , and recasting all those roles with new actors destroys the concept of being the Orginal series, think Dirk Benedict is the only orginal left and he is in or nearly in his 70s so you would have Commander Starbuck as captain of the Galatica, with new faces being new crew the children that grew up in space. Guess Boxy could be the new space rogue ( like Starbuck used to be) Which reminds me you have to state that Galactica 1980 never happened. Edit looked up Dirk B. He is 79yrs old now 2025, doing a new tv series might be too hard on him . So you would have a reboot without a single returning cast member, that wont pass as the Orginal BSG reboot it would just be a new version more in the orginal mood.
@@lonknight3197not necessarily, what if we had a different ship? This whole thing could be tangential but keeping the look and feel and updating only a small part of the visual effects, everything else the same. Of course had it been for "modern audiences" it could have been far worse than Galactica 1980 at it's lowest (I kind of enjoy some parts of it, but man those scouts are just awful)
@MysticCoder yeah I agree. This decade is just too politically charged to bring something like that back right now. Maybe next decade people will let go of all that shit and TV shows can go back to stories without being politicized.
@@MysticCoder i dont think it's possible to re-imagine the original or the 03 version in this climate without it being turned into some monstrosity to appease the manufactured rage crowd. But i refuse to believe all this will last forever so someday. Just not for a while at least.
It seems longer ago because they dragged out the seasons so long I think. Only '4' seasons but it was almost always on the verge of being canceled. I don't want them to make a new one for a long time if ever, because they'll still woke it up and let's be honest, most streaming shows suck and are canceled real quick.
@@dangale123Are you serious? The 2024 Christmas Special about a fat neurotic woman becoming the Star of Bethlehem was a DISASTER! And Moffat wrote it!!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I take the RDM Reboot over the original any day. Maybe i am just to young to apreciate the superb special effects and space battle scenes of the original. A visual Remaster of the original, with CGI Space Battles would be interesting. But how would you make a sequel to the 2003 Series? They made it to earth. The End.
@Llabenlump Everyone has their own opinion, but I liked the RDM version the best. I don't dislike the original, I have seen most of it because my dad was a fan back in the 70s but the RDM version is my top 5 favorite and IMO rebooting it has a high probability of failure which I don't want to see it tainted. The original is also beloved by so many I feel like a reboot of that or continuation would also be a let down for most fans of the 78 version.
@Brendo2186 I share your opinion 100% I just think you cant make a "family firendly" and "light hearted" TV show about refuges fleeing from genocide. Thats why i like the RDM Version more. I think its a generational thing. I think most people who saw the first Series when it aired will almost always put it above the remake. Oh and lets not forget the female Startbuck. Heresy! 😄And with the RDM which is already old enough to drink, it will likely be the same. I didnt expect myself to be to fond of the reboot. Now i wont find out. Sorry for my english, im not a native speaker.
@Llabenlump no worries, you are spot on. The story is about the few survivors of humanity fleeing genocidal robots after being mostly wiped out. By its nature it's a dark story.
1978 sequel series? Yes please. Bring the old girl out and put her on the big screen again. She still has majesty and would look brilliant. Just don't find earth. Make Boomer - Herbert Jefferson Jr. the Admiral and then have an all new cast surrounding him. Planet/Crisis of the week, weave in a season long mystery, keep the show somewhat lighthearted like the original and Sold! There's a reason why the original was loved, recapture that and Bob's your uncle, great ratings!
Someone just came up with a STTNG idea that would work with a new BSG set it the OG universe. It could be done but the people in charge of the IP have no imagination! They see that the ReBoot worked so they believe that is what the fans want.
I might be mistaken, but "Strange New Worlds" takes place in the Kelvin timeline and is therefore not "original souce material continuity". ;o) - Please correct me if i'm wrong!
Jury's still out on that one, let's just say that Canon is optional, and as far as I'm personally concerned, it's either or, but there are enough continuity flaws that could support the Kelvin Timeline theory
It can't be the Kelvin timeline, because in that timeline Kirk goes straight from the academy to the Enterprise, and in Strange New Worlds Kirk is an officer on another ship. However, the fact that it's not Kelvin doesn't mean it's the prime universe of TOS. Since the sixties we've had Borg going back in time, Romulans changing when the Eugenics Wars happened, and the trifling of countless dubious writers who have made what they consider prime universe something impossible to jibe with TOS.
Kelvin isn't a Timeline it's an Alternate Universe With an Altered Timeline,,, Strange New Worlds, Discovery and Lower Decks exist together in their own Alternate Universe and Picard is an Alternate Universe by itself,,, there has been No New Prime Universe show sense Enterprise and No New Prime Universe movie sense Nemesis
I’m a simple man. I want season two of the original story lol that’s what we all want. Just continue the story (don’t find Earth) keep Pegasus and maybe a few other warships. Man I’d love to see that. I read a lot of BSG fan fiction those types of stories are always fun to read. Keep up the great content. Wonderful channel my man! 🍻
You''d love to see it...if they did it well. They want to make soap operas slash fic and social engineering and have zero desire to make a war movie or realistic survival drama
The way a lot of modern entertainment is trying to cater to a audience that doesn't exist this isn't a bad thing, give it five years or so & perhaps someone with not only talent but a love for the franchise can make something worthy of the legacy & being set in the original universe would be sweet.
I would have loved for them to consider again something akin to Richard Hatch's Second Coming. Based on the original 1970s show. Heck with everyone older (or passed) they just make it a continuation with some of the original actors in senior roles or flashbacks. Or have them go through a time warp or whatever to age the crew. The fact that so many of the OG actors participated in that concept trailer shows they had interest (or at least supported Richard).
@Rob-z7k No, there's still quite a few cast members from the 78 series that are still around besides Dirk. For starters, there's Herbert Jefferson Jr. a.k.a Lieutenant Boomer. He's definitely still around. As a matter of fact, all you have to do to see him is hit up any comic book or sci-fi convention between San Diego and Los Angeles, and chances are Herb will be there signing photos. He's practically a staple at San Diego Comic-Con. The three main actresses are all still around. Laurette Spang (Cassiopea), Maren Jensen (Athena), and Anne Lockhart (Sheba) are still here. Noah Hathway (Boxy) and Ed Begley Jr. (Greenbean) are still around as well.
Disappointed in this especially after they spent 5 years in development. Refreshing the original 78 concept i think would have been better received than going back to the Dystopia of the reboot. Im surprised one idea hasn't been considered - taking the 78 series but using modern CGI effects like they did with the TOS. I saw a proof of concept video called "The Living Legend Project" here on UA-cam that took a clip from the 2 part episode "The Living Legend" and modernized the special effects. I think that would bridge old and new fans and perhaps spur interest in revising a reboot more in line with the 78 series.
Modernizing the effects for Galactica isn't the problem. The show was a hit, it had its fans and those that loath newness. But something or SOMEONE behind the scenes at Universal has a bug up its tail pipe about $$$omething.
I'm an old man now and loved watching the original release in my teens. When the 2003 reboot arrived (I'll admit) I wasn't happy. Star Buck was now a woman, etc. Move forward and after watching about two seasons of the reboot I truly enjoyed it. All the actors were awesome and I really loved the darker aspect of the story. IMO it truly is a work of of perfection in both filming and story. And yes, I own both collector versions of the show on Blu-ray as well.
The first season of the Reboot is very good with some truly great writing. After that the series took a little turn towards weirdness with (in my opinion) a very poor conclusion.
I basically said “Unless they worked with the original series I won’t touch it. I’ll be in the popcorn aisle. Deal with it.” As you can see I have a long memory with Battlestar. I don’t know if you look through Amazon listings but I wrote a proof of a book called ‘Have we turned our backs on being good’ which was a comparison between Battlestar Galactica and Miley Cyrus ( Now there are two things you never thought you’d see in the same sentence huh? ). I have one or two proofs but mothballed the concept thinking I could do a different work. Slowly I have been doing that work. A story called ‘The Final Duty’ which takes place in the original universe but only Boxey is left. A new cast is featured, but it continues the story. If you ever are in my neck of the woods you can check out what I have written maybe.
imagine the depression of the writers and producers when people told them that their revolutionary forward idea of putting women at the same level with men, with black characters being taken seriously, and plot points involving serious political matters, had already been done DECADES before they were even born.... twice. just IMAGINE the shattering of their entire reality... the crushing of those hopes of liberating light on THESE trying times of 2024, where THEY are "oppressed minorities". I would have payed to see that.
The problem with BSG is it has the same problem of Gilligan's or Star Trek Voyage. The BSG crew is looking for a new world once that occurs then show ends.
Galactica 80, while HORRIBLY implemented didn't have a broken premise. It can continue. Maybe if the OG Cylons are alien lizards, they could have a BSG & V (Visitors) reboot tied together. I'd be down for that.
If I had to guess, I’d say Ron Moore still held a lot of sway with the studio. He wouldn’t want his gritty, mature, “realistic” version of the show overshadowed by one that appealed to a general audience and/or was family friendly.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I'm with you. I thought Moore's show was good at best, but was not a fan of it. I'd love to see BSG returned to its roots where it's not afraid to be science fiction. I don't mean it should be silly, but it also doesn't have to have NASA/JPL's approval stamped all over it. That's what I disliked most about Moore's version: imagination was sucked dry from it.
I don’t think that’d happen. I imagine RDM wanted it to happen as he likes BSG. I loved the new show as I did like it and it didn’t try to compete with the original and was doing its own thing which was good. Making the show dark puts it in a showdown with the 2000s version. It’d have to be exceptionally good to stand up next to that one. I hope that a new version is as beloved as the originals.❤❤
@@nicholasdickens2801 If it "did its own thing", then why did they rip off the characters from the OG and just gender/race swap them?! If they were truly original the would have come up with whole new characters and respected the old ones.
The only way to not make a reboot a complete rehash would be to include arriving at Earth, but not in the stupid way 1980 did by leading the Cylons to it. Instead of everyone dropping on Earth's doorstep, the story is that they know how to get there, but try to delay as long as possible discovery by the Cylons. They send one group to leave a trail of misdirection while the rest go to Earth with enough technology to begin uplifting the locals to the point where they can attempt to resist what may come.
I eventually concluded the humans in the reboot were so dysfunctional that the Cylons needed have bothered attacking. The humans would have destroyed themselves before long.
There is a comic book where the original series and the reboot meet. It's quite entertaining, actually. For example, Felgercarb in the reboot universe is a brand of toothpaste.
If Universal needs a family type Battlestar Galactica they should continue the original series with the Battlestar Galactica and the Rag Tag fleet still on a on a lonely quest for earth 🌍
Strange New Worlds is not in the OG continuity, it is in an alternative continuity. It was part of STD which is now de-canonized (thank god) which means SNW is now also de-canonized.
I agree & found this online by a simple Google search. Some will disagree, but those who like the new crap will get angry. It's certainly not Star Trek in the least other than name & character re-use. Just like the Kelvin timeline. The only real Star Trek was from 1966-2005. "According to recent reports, "Star Trek: Discovery" has been officially declared non-canon, meaning it is no longer considered part of the main Star Trek timeline, with the final episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" confirming that it takes place in an alternate universe separate from the prime timeline; effectively "erasing" it from the canon. Key points about this "discanonization": Reason for removal: Many fans and critics felt "Discovery" deviated too much from the established Star Trek universe. Confirmation source: The final episode of "Lower Decks" is cited as the definitive source confirming "Discovery" as non-canon. Impact: This means that the events and characters from "Discovery" are now considered to be from a separate alternate timeline."
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 Lower Decks, Prodigy, Strange New Worlds, Picard, Section 31 and Starfleet Academy would all not exist without Discovery. Maybe go outside and touch grass?
You know... even at this point they really could go back and pick up the original series as a "Next Gen" type approach. We don't need a third retelling of the fall of the Colonies and their Exodus to find Earth. If you are watching Battlestar Galactica, you probably already know. But picking up a generation into this fleet that is still searching for Earth could be fascinating! (And maybe lure a certain Dirk back to the screen?) Ignore G1980, and that transmission of the Eagle moon landing was a wibbly wobbly spacey thing. I would love to see Battlestar return to the fun, adventure and heroes of the original series style. Updated of course, but let's have some fun again, shall we?
Any chance of a video on the cancelled-during-production *Singer DeSantos Battlestar Galactica* continuation? It was before B.Singer was exposed, of course! They were building full-size Vipers designed by Guy Hendrix Dyas when the plug was pulled. "Launch When Ready!" 🚀
The new series failed, eh? Good! If they aren't going to respect the original/the source material, then it deserves to die in the planning stages! If universal ever comes to their senses(and I'm not holding my breath waiting for that!), they'd be wise to continue the original while they can. After all, the remaining cast isn't getting any younger!
Personally, I would like to see a Reboot of another great Science Fiction TV Series. I would like to see a Reboot of Babylon Five Interestinly, I can't seem to find any reruns of Babylon Five anywhere on Cable TV. I think Babylon Five had a very underlying Political Message which was very Radical which the Establishment- the Ruling Elite doesn't like.

Heres some additional ideas for a new classic 'Battlestar Galactica,' re-activation. Katee Sackoff could be in the new series as Starbuck and Cassiopeia 's oldest daughter on the series... as a Viper Pilot, as a mother--with Starbuck and Cassiopeia's grandkids. Katee could change her look to adapt to the new 'Battlestar' series by letting her hair grow out but retaining her other Starbuck characteristics. Tricia Helfer could be a new 'Basestar,' commander whose eyes turn to Red when she is in their Basestar commander position and whose eyecolor is of a different color depending on the position she is in at the time. She can actually go on 'away,' missions when she needs, or wants to. Grace Park can be Boomer (Herbert Jefferson Jr.), adopted daughter who was trained by Boomer, Apollo, Sheba, and Starbuck. You could also have a new female Triad game for the female pilots in a traditional role as wearing more 'Cheesecake,' uniforms to compete / compare with the 'Beefcake,' versions the male players wore and wear in updated fashion designs. The actresses and actors from the 're-imagined,' two-thousand' series would fit in really well.
So this makes what??? 3 times failing since 2019 to fire up an original series-type reboot??? They should go back to the Pegasus story they originally were going to try. That way if they eff it up it won't really hurt the actual BSG original canon. There is at least 9 hours worth of storylines out there already written they could at least use as a template. I think maybe Universal needs to lease the rights out to someone else and let them have a shot at making something. The Pegasus storyline would be great if it did succeed they would still hold the rights to the Galactica story they could revive after 4 or so years of a Pegasus storyline working as was done with Deep Space 9 and Voyager or Discovery and Strange New Worlds. Universal could still control the rights to the Cylon attack on the Colony worlds with the Pegasus show only allowed enough latitude with it to start their storyline off.
Hey fellow BSG UA-camr! I'm not sure that millions have been spent on the development of this new series, because Sam Esmail only mentioned that he read a great outline (which is not even a full script) in October 2023, and the latest known showrunner, Derek Simonds, was announced just a year ago. Has a pilot episode been directed between this and last summer when we learned that the show was cancelled? It is not impossible, but however highly improbable. But apart from this, I agree with you and I find interesting that the network wanted a family show when Sam Esmail repeated numerous times that his series would happen in the same universe than Ron Moore's show. If this is the case, the network definitely did not understand the franchise the wanted a new series from. But I must admit that I never thought of a new series that was a continuation of the original show (this was dead to me since the failure of the BSG The Second Coming attempt), and I must say that this would actually be a very good idea. I'm a huge fan of the reboot, but I also love the original and I speak of both shows in my French podcast. A new series that would be the continuation of the original series would be great, because this one never had a proper ending, and this would avoid the risk of any retcon of the reboot.
From what I’ve been told Universal spent tons of money on this project over 5 years. Many of the people involved have pay and play deals (get paid regardless of what happens). Universal does not care as it’s all a tax write off.
Are there any trailer or test footage of the peacock show? How many or are there any episodes filmed? In this day and age , why not "leak" 20 mins or so on UA-cam of the new pilot episode to actually gauge audience reaction...
No more BATTLE-💲E❌ RA🅿️E-TACULAR! Why can't they get this right?! It's obvious! Just continue the 1978 series instead! Have you seen all the Easter Eggs in *Ready Player One* yet? "Launch When Ready!" 🚀
I'll go on record to say I love both versions of the series (As long as the Galactica 1980 is thrown out). Each spoke to the audience of their time. At the time of 2003's start I compared it to how Gundam has its UC and AU timelines. I'm disappointed, because a big part of the reason I got Peacock when it started up was because of this prospective series. Fortunately, it turned out to be a useful streamer to have, but it's disappointing to see that a new Battlestar Galactica of any kind isn't coming anytime soon.
Battlestar Galactica story in my opinion was told halfway through the story, like the original Star Wars trilogy. There is a beginning, the middle, which was the series, and the ending which we never got, which is them finding earth and settling earth while trying to make peace with a cylon. You would be easy in my opinion to greenlight the first part of the story which can entail the making of the cylon’s, them being on a different planet and having conflict with other societies outside the 13 colonies. And then we can take it to where the colonial fleet come into war for the first time with the cylon’s and go all the way through to the armistice, as they talk about in the second updated Battlestar Galactica series. That’s what I want to see. We got a taste of it with the show Caprica and the flash packs of commander Adama. That’s the story I want to be told in full CGI cinematic view on the Peacock network. If done right it could be a marvelous piece of work, especially in this day and age where AI is taking off in real life. The first part of Battlestar Galactica that hasn’t been made can talk about that AI. It needs to have good dialogue and a lot of action mixed in. Not too much of one or the other but a good mix of dialogue lore and action. I would have it as man-made the cylon’s to help out in every day work, so it’s AI program, but it was taken over by the aliens called Cylon’s in a rebuild against man in the 13 colonies and eventually went to live on the cylon home world and just play it out from there. What does anybody think about my pitch? If you have another pitch or a better pitch, I’d love to hear it.
The BSG show (both original and new) are my favourite sci fi tv series of all time. I have a massive collection of action figures, ships, etc. some autographed, etc. I would love to see a semi reboot.. or at least a continuation from the point just before they found earth.
I loved both the original (at first) and the Reboot. *Somehow Ronald D. Moore and the others were able to successfully connect the 2 even as very, very different as they were. Any attempts to start anew will have to atleast equal both in their respective areas they did well at; that's a very High Bar. Give Ronald D. Moore a blank check and creative freedom and I'm sure it would make that, but as we have all seen with Hollywood's ***** in the last 10-15 years, the studios don't want a great show for people to watch and enjoy, they want something cheap that rides on a great shows laurels then blame everybody when its a flop.
I wonder what the premise was. Although there were a variety of different projects in development at different times, they pretty consistently said that this would fit in the timeline of the RDM series somehow, and would not be a reboot, more like a revival or a side story or whatever. I do know the cast of the RDM show were pretty universally opposed to this. Still my only interest in the show has been what it would be about. I wasn’t really interested in watching it, I just really wanted to know what story of they thought was worth telling.
I’m going to reserve my thoughts until a script is leaked (you know that will be coming). From what I’ve been told it’s just a remake of the 2003 series.
It will be very hard to replicate the feel of the old series, if there's no Starbuck, Apollo, Boomer, Adama or General Tigh, Boxy the robot dog on the side of the heroes and for the villains the original Cylon robots led by Boltar, its just not Battlestar Galactica. If its got to be updated and woke they could at least have the main characters with the same personalities of the original series and keep things simple with just two genders instead of weighing it down with all the equal rights for all types bullshit.
@battlestarcollectica7106 Yes, I always liked the STTNG cast and situations the crew got themselves into, if this was in the OG universe it would be nice if they could retro it with a late 1970's styled wardrobe and hairstyles for the cast, this would be such a thank you letter to what the OG fans remember it to be. The long, ragged, wild looking hairstyles, the suede jackets and boots and also retro styled computer systems/flight decks and avionics controls for the fighter jets are essential to have the feel of the OG universe too. I just hope they get a producer/director who grew up in the 1970's because they'd know exactly how it's meant to be done, from watching the OG series as a child and replicating something special onscreen for future generations to enjoy. A great blast from the past.
I suggest they get their act together. There is nothing on tv worth anyone’s time to watch and it’s only getting worse. Writers can’t right, producers can’t manage and networks have their heads up their ass.
Does anyone other than the access media actually care about the 2003 series? I've heard it never got the best ratings when it was on and even today most merchandise that comes out is of the 70s version.
Never got the best ratings? I understand that the re-imagined version isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it helped the Sy-Fi channel immensely with its high ratings. The Caprica prequel series on the other hand......
@@michealcormier2555 It's tough when you create a new vision and then give it a crappy ending for any other shows in that realm to be successful especially prequels. How long did Blood and Chrome last??? Wasn't it supposed to be a webisode for a future pilot show of a new series??? Ron Moore killed the opportunity for really any other form of the remake to exist and thrive. Ron Moore was the Cylon Imperious Leader who killed off ALL of the humans and thus any further storylines for spin-offs and prequels thus ending his BSG World, forever. LOL.
FWIW I absolutely LOVE the 2003 series and I think it blows away the original series in just about every way, and I'm in my mid 60's and watched the original series when it first aired. The original started out pretty great but gradually then rapidly went down hill I'm assuming to budget restrictions (constantly reusing the same special effects shots over and over) and weak writing that didn't compensate. I remember back in the day completely loosing interest on an episode where in the first scene a reused shot of a Cylon ship crashing into the Battlestar traps some people in storage room and there was a fire on the other side, and the entire rest of the show was them there the room waiting to be rescued etc. 🤦♂I wanted to watch an interesting sci-fi show that intrigued/surprised me and sparked my imagination, not a pedestrian low budget disaster show about every day situations that could happen in any era. 🤷♂ The high budget, well written, and well acted 2003 series did that for me! 👌🥰👍
Great video first of all. Second, I hope they don't try to bring back BSG for one reason you brought up, they would want to make it like Mandalorian. Season 2 and 3 of Mando was very divisive in the sense that it was used to push political/social messages to the audience. Star Wars was not perceived by the audience to be that which is why so many are disappointed with the franchise. The age of using sci-fi for a platform has to die out as people don't want that anymore. Mainly because we are in the 21st century and we are no closer to that fabled utopia than predicted. Many fans just want an adventure that has growth, structure and continuity so we can invest our time and money to follow. They can either sell a story or tell a story. They always pick to sell a story which is where we see our beloved stories get destroyed through "politics". The best idea for a BSG reboot was the one Richard Hatch attached himself to. It is unfortunate that NBC said no and he passed away. The days for BSG are behind us moreso than in front of us. SIGH....
It was a great idea that could have worked but the studio was still is clueless! The problem with the current Universal is that they are very risk adverse. That is why they now rely on horrible tent pole sequels so much. It’s very sad!
I feel your sentiment. I double your SIGH. I remember the whole household sitting in front of Galactica (78) for the family-friendly, adventurous escapism. I don't know who would be capable in making something like that these days. Given how much more extreme the social/political influence is now (even beyond the time of the re-imagined series), maybe it's better they don't do it.
I think you're spot on. 03 BSG certainly had themes that related to what was going on at the time, but it wasn't any kind of platform either. It was a good balance, a great story and character development and very realistic. I think maybe wait until next decade when all the 2020s crazy has hopefully faded to try again.
An animated version could be the answer to the call for fans and not a total reboot in general, but a final session of the original set alongside the last journey to Earth in the year 2039, or the 26 century. Not connected to that other series in the 80s, so much, but there's a villain from that turns with a connection to Starbuck. Additionally, there's an intriguing plot with two Starbuks. The old episode where a commander is supposed to be Starbucks' father we never real knows if he died in this story, and so an alternative timeline story could become an option. Starbucks could be intriguingly possible series, a stand-alone series telling the true fate of Starbucks' final years or something completely different in his adventures through the universe towards his destiny and possibly finding his way to a shining Earthly destination. Or revealing both modern and old are part of something of Starbucks legacies from a different perspective, revealing he was a Cylon humanoid? Starbucks Shadows, the myth of the pilot of the fleet, the original series had him as a joking and friendly wise guy, but his character was a deep hearted hero, someone trusted and someone reliable. But his life story and past had so many secrets. It would be to develop a backstory in his early childhood story, still hiding a few things, but a huge secret of who he really was related to. And he has a twin sister who vanished when they were young. She turns up in an alternative reality? Only a theory..
Years ago, I heard rumors of a new remake. I didn't even know it was on Peacock. These subscription channels seem good but will fail in the long run. You have to create hits *all the time* to convince people to pay for yet another subscription. It is too expensive to chase shows that seem appealing. I doubt it had anything to do with the show itself. It needed more marketing, which most of us skip past, and more of a reason to pay for Peacock.
I'm starting to see more and more kids at Comic cons dressing up as the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica series characters and original Star Wars characters from 1977. . . These properties are nearly 50 years old but somehow are making a bigger and bigger impact on the youth today. I think the message is clear. Just give us back our original Battlestar Galactica story and characters! Heck! Do the same for our Star Wars characters while we're at it too!! . . Never seen such out of touch folk as those taking the lead in our entertainment industry!
From the moment the Peacock project was announced, I didn't understand it. It makes no sense to place the new story within the universe of Ronald D Moore's BSG because that show had a definitive ending. There is nowhere to go with it. BSG is an epic story which can be told and re-told in different ways. My vote would be for something like the original series or even a continuing story from the original series, but with more mature writing and more character-focused story arcs. Like the best elements from 1978 and 2003 combined.
The comments in the video that it "would appeal to a limited audience" and "the country's mood has changed" makes me think it was too woke. Looks like studio execs are taking notice of what audiences think of newer movies such as the Snow White remake.
@@Klaatu2Too If the studio execs were expecting it to be more like the Star Wars crap then they wanted it more juvenile, campy & snarky-comedic, like the garbage Disney-Marvel pumps out regularly, woke or not woke. Personally, I prefer my sci-fi more adult, serious & dramatic, like Man of Steel for example (or previous BSG remake), & less like the campy-cheesy Guardians of the Galaxy movies (as one example of many). But, that's me & likely in the minority.
I agree the reboot was too dark. The original was dark too, but Adama brought light and hope in the midst of tragedy. While I'd like to see something based on the original it would be hard as we don't have many original cast still alive and while the mood of the country is changing it may take a couple of years before they are truly ready for this or for a new SG-1. I could be wrong. Also there is a danger of going in the direction of Picard- saying things just because they can not that it fits into their universe.
I agree with you. I do think that there is a way to produce something new and imaginative within the BSG universe without redoing something that came before.
I had no idea a new Battlestar was coming our way. I was a kid when the original aired and loved how they fled their planet to survive from being wiped out of existence from the cool looking bad ass one Lazer eye silver robot Cylons. There was infighting between the humans as they searched for the last colony of the planet Earth which they had no idea if Earth was even real or not and that was a great story arc twist. Fantasy heroes wondering if we were real!! The newer series had the same storyline and then the short prequels gave us the creation of the Cylons. We even got human looking Cylons were some of them didn't even know they were Cylons. As a fan, I'm not interested in a reboot. I guess the only storyline I'd care about is something new where the Cylons are attacking Earth and maybe we team up with members from the Galactica to fight them or Galactica grabs Earth survivors and flees again.
I loved the 78 BSG as a kid and I loved the reboot as an adult. However, it is the original 78 version that I keep on putting into my player. Not because the original show is better, but because it is more episodic in nature. Its easier to tune in and lose yourself for an hour, vs. the new show which is more of a continuing story. Strange New Worlds understood this when they went back to a more episodic format over Picard. But I do think that the new show was better. The shows tagline "All this has happened before and all this will happen again" is true, that pretty much everything that happened in the original show, happened in the new show. But it was presented in a more realistic fashion.
The 2003 reboot was depressing, and far too serious about itself...Worse, they gender swapped Starbuck from the original into a woman, not to mention the other male characters suffering the same unforgivable atrocity. Then they executed Richard Hatch's character because he was leading a rebellion against the Galactica. It mirrored his real life efforts to bring the series back, but the reboot saw fit to humiliate him in their twisted story. The original Movie absolutely blows the 2003 reboot out of the water.
It's one of the cool comments by a fan in the comments section below. He / she says,'we don't want a 'Battlestar Galactica,' that is 'Approved by NASA,' and he's got it! We want a show like the original Glen A. Larson production, with actual models used to enhance the visual effects by the modern day computers. The dogfights in space should be like the original series just enhanced, but better--when things go by to fast on screen its just hurts the atmosphere and even the grace and beauty of the shots / angles used in the scene. The Cylons in future series should make slight advancements of their own. Perhaps a third engine design which is used as a 'turbo boost,' to catch up to the Vipers in combat, or they instal a 'turbo boost,' on the two engines they elready have to keep up with the colonial Vipers which causes the 'Galactican,' fleet to make newer, more advanced Vipers to regain their advantage against the Cylon Raiders. Maybe adding a fourth engine, or a fifth for the extra speed. These newer engines could be even more adaptive to space and oxygen atmospheres. They also need to explain how the cockpits hold on to the rest of the Viper in flight. (Herbert Jeffersen Jr.'s question I believe.) On another note , why wasn't ''Universal,' prepared with two versions of 'Battlestar Galactica,' one 'Classic,' and the other 'reimagined,' version so the could cover all their Basestars (So to speak). Lack of planning, or lack of vision? Would Dirk Benedict or Anne Lockhart or any of the original actors / actresses really ask for that much...? One of the aspects I did not like in the 'novels,' was that Starbuck and Cassiopeia,' never got married and hade a couple of kids to have links to the classic series... Athena and Greenbean getting married and having kids would make for Adamas descendents to be on / in the new series to re-establish links to the new series, and basically rectifiy a wrong done to Maren Jensen.
There are many at Universal who are actually embarrassed by the OG series. They feel it’s too childish (I guess they have never seen Star Wars). They believe that the only way to go is with a Reboot of the Reboot.
Simply (re)doing the original Battlestar series or adding "new episodes/stories" as closely as possible (like Star Trek Continues did) would be a massive win imo
I have a suggestion if anyone wants to pass it along, maybe they branch out into audio plays, it worked for Doctor Who, Big Finish kept the flame alive between the 1996 Paul McGann movie and the New Series, or they could license it out to a novel series akin to Richard Hatch's novels of the late 90s early 2000s (ok, so that was more than 1 suggestion)
Richard Hatch tried but could not obtain the rights. After his passing it was created without mentioning BSG or any of the shows names. I did an episode on it a few months ago. Please check it out!
the way that bsg ended the franchise makes it impossible to reboot, they kind of really done a number on it the last season with Tye and cheif and anders being cylons and having anders being the jump computer, that just really left a bad taste in most of our mouths. Not sure how you go about rebooting something that was shot in the head.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I like it until the last season, when the find the last cylon models and things got strange and stayed strange and I never figure out what starbuck was, was she cylon or something else
I assume they have to make a show or movie in a certain time frame to maintain the rights... They should just continue the original in the '70s aesthetic and recast the characters, or give us an animated continuation. So many of us who enjoyed the original are still around.
I agree that it would have been a mistake to try doing the dark 2003 bag thing again. It already exists and there's no way that they could do better than what was already done. Going with the more space-fantasy style would have been better. People want escape right now, life right now for most people is already "dark and gritty"
@@battlestarcollectica7106 exactly. I totally revere the 2003 BSG even with it's flaws as one of the all time greats but that's because it was OF ITS TIME and it said what it wanted to say for the sociopolitical climate of the 2000s. Now its two decades later and the context is different and it's time for something else tonally
I grew up with the original series and would like to see a reboot of that. The incarnation from 2003 was nice too but the protagonists were to much depressed. In reality these people would not have survived for five minutes.
The thing I can't get by, in regard to the re-imagined series, that weakened the overall story SO much, was that suddenly the Cylons were created by man. That was some pretty unimaginative reimagining -- that old, warn out concept of 'building robots that take us over'. It was present at least as far back as 1950's sci-fi radio. What makes the original Galactica impactful is that Cylons are emotionless, robot-building, reptilian aliens that can take what we have and send us scrambling like mice. You might say that 'that concept' has ALSO been around forever and you would be right. But 'WE' as our own enemy is just not nearly as scary as a more advanced, emotionless alien species, bent on wiping us out like they are exterminating roaches.
@@Halbared Ahhh...I forgot about the Cylon robots turning against their reptilian makers. Thanks for the reminder. The reboot made humans the makers of the robots, right? I still think advance alien tech is more scary than our own. And Cylons looking like us is just not as fun.
@@GooeyGluey Yes the reboot did that. As a kid I always wanted the reptiles to turn up, that might be a good plot point. The Imperious leader used to confuse me too, I thought it was a giant organic brain or summat. I did check and apparently the original idea was for the cylons to be reptiles but killing creatures made the telly channel queasy. I still have my original BSG annual.
Great points! I also didn't like the "human" Cylons, the gender swapping (especially of my two favorite characters), or the vipers firing bullets! There was more I didn't like that added to the reason I only got 3 episodes into the series but you get the idea.
They should go back to the original ideas for BSG and bring that to the screen. Make it look more like an ancient human civilization and less USA in space, weaving-in ancient mythologies. Visually it should look ancient, futuristic and even alien in some ways - but the characters and their humanity, the very thing they are trying to preserve is what should make it relatable. They could do something for the whole family, sure with some darker undertones - it is about the extermination of the human race after all. Why not bring back Boxey and Muffit on one hand, and the Imperious Leader, Baltaar and Lucifer on the other? Whoever does it will need to spend a decent money on it to do it right, a low budget rehash of the reboot isn't worth anyone's time.
Just use the original designs there's nothing wrong with any of them. It was they didn't take the story of an entire civilization of 13 worlds plus hundreds of others seriously.
Based only on what you've said in this video, it seems like the studio had the right idea, and that puling the plug on this version before it aired was a smart decision.
there was a lot of good points to the 2003 reboot, but as a big fan of the original, there was a lot I didn't like about the reboot and was glad it was over. the money issue did come up in the originals run as well and we seen the quality falling during the shows run.
Battlestar Galactica has always led a "checkered" existence. If Glen Larson had had his way, ABC would have produced an ongoing series of made-for-tv BSG movies with decent budgets and attentive scripts. We know the network's response to that. The series still enjoyed a strong following but the budget killed it in the end. However, based upon what I heard from a source in Glen Larson's office years ago, a potential second season of BSG would have been more disastrous than fans could imagine.
1978 BSG was a big part of my childhood. There was a long time between Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. BSG and Buck Rogers were the right shows at the right time. Many episodes have aged well all these years later. The BSG reboot was TOO DARK, and was at least a season too long. With the passing of several OG BSG cast members in the intervening years, we’ll never get the proper reunion show OG BSG deserved. But a fresh reboot NOT based on Ron Moore’s show WOULD succeed if they ever get it off the ground. What do they need? Good writing, good casting, and a TOY/MERCH line!!!!
Are you sure those shows are making money? I don’t think Disney has shared Star Wars profits lately, for good reason, and I didn’t think Trek had turned a profit since Into Darkness. Seems like they are “loss leaders” or contractually obligatory contracts they wish they could get out of. Thanks for the video! Don’t step in any felgercarb!
@ Well we know that Disney isn’t honest about their accounting, and if the word is that trek is making money, I suspect that is a lie as well. How could it possibly be true? Making expensive-yet-terrible shows that alienate their audience on a second rate streaming platform? Whatever creative bookkeeping it takes, they’ll find a way to spin it. Disney called Captain Marvel a billion dollar success, despite how they gave away tickets with car purchases, lobbied for charitable donations to pay themselves with to send girls to see it, (charity for Disney!), and bought out empty theaters. They need a hit alright!
How do you make a post apocalyptic story fun? That was the key flaw with the original. Star Wars isn't focused on one event, and can branch across a wide variety of characters. BSG is focused on one event.
I'm a huge fan of the original and the reboot both. I have to say, it sounds as though execs made the right call. A rarity. I don't want the Partridge Family in Space, but we could go with a little less grit and a little more escapism. Hopefully they restart the project from scratch and avoid silly extremes.
How about an animated version of the show? Not like 'Lower Decks', that's been done recently, but something more inline with the original BSG series like Star Trek: The Animated Series was for the original Star Trek. But hopefully with better animation.
Their next move is to can the whole lot. We've had the glam 70's version, the gritty 2000's version so just leave that shit be. The only way I think that anything will work is in about 5 to 10 years time they do a Reboot one off MCU style movie with the original story and I couldn't care for that either beside the visuals of the space craft. In short just leave it be, create something else so that there's no damage done like studios have done damage to everything else, such as Star Trek/Wars et al.
Big fan of the original BSG and it is overall my favorite version. Galactica 1980 not so much, but the Ron Moore reboot was Very Good and I enjoyed it immensely. Solid story and effects.
I prefer the reimagined series myself, but I have watched the original and like it too. I mean though, the post-apocalyptic setting of the series feels better when things are dark and gritty. But, a Ligh hearted episode now and again wouldn't hurt. I don't mind going back to energy weapons either.
Sorry, I'm old enough to have watched the original BSG when it aired. It was essentially quick cash grab to cash in on the popularity of Star Wars. It was campy, shallow cotton candy with cardboard characters and lasted all of 1 season. The Reboot in comparison was more "real", and dealt with themes that we in the US were struggling with at the time.
Same. Even as a kid I thought the original was campy and cheesy. (some episodes more than others) Yeah let's make a family friendly show about the genocide of humanity. As you said, it failed miserably. People get blinded by childhood nostalgia. Sometimes first isn't best. BSG is a prime example.
The original series was pretty dark for 1978. Many people tuned in and expected Star Wars but instead got something much different. Still amazes me that it even got green lit!
I think they should just went back to the roots and use the real Starbucks before he died have a command the Pegasus that would have been far more interesting and then introduce new characters
I'm glad that another "reimagined" show, that spits in the faces of the original fans, didn't get the greenlight this time. Mandolorian is no longer a financial success. Strange New World's NEVER has been.
Right now the only successful SW that Disney has going for is the Mandelorian. I recently visited Galaxy’s Edge for the very first time. Even that SW is pretty bad (and half empty because of it!).
I don't think there's any more room to exploit this property. Look, the original was "I want to tell this cool story I made up." And then the reboot was "I want to reimagine this story with grit and really put these guys thru the wringer" Was this most recent attempt anything other than "let's copy Ron Moore's homework but change it up a bit"?
I have the answer, and I would pitch and pursue its production if I knew how. Battlestar Galactica The Animated series combines the best aspects of all past BSG shows and adds new elements as the ragtag fleet not only seeks to evade the Cylons and other factions but must actively seek out clues left behind by the thirteenth tribe to make sure they are on the correct course for the planet called Earth.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 apparently their form response to pitches is to go away before you even get to the door, and my attempts to get an agent have not yet been successful.
Strange New Worlds doesn't take place in the original continuity. It takes place in a continuity that starts with Star. Trek Discovery and rendered an alternate continuity by the very last episode of Star Trek Lower Decks!
This is kinda true and not true. Has'nt been outright confirmed by Paramount yet that Discovery is an alternate universe only that the Klingons from Discovery do exist in an alternate timeline. I despise Discovery more than most, but there are plenty of ways that the Discovery Klingons could still unfortunately be cannon. I have also heard that SNW is still canon from the same sources that say Discovey is retconned so.....until Paramount outright confirms, It's still unfortunately cannon.
"Hand of God" at the end of 78 BSG had so much to go on from, unfortunately we can't really make a season 2 with the original cast this many years on. A next generation type approach with some original cast, playing older versions of their characters, and a the next generation of crew members played by new cast members, could possibly work. Keep the look of the costumes and ships as close to the original as possible with allowance for what the Galactica's scientists and Cylons could have developed over the 40 years.
Interesting how much love there is for the original series. I was a tween at the time and found it lacking even then due to the same action shots used over and over again. Seemed at odds with the money spent on the rest of the series. I used to groan when the same cylon ship shot came on again! IMHO the reboot was perfect. I really don't see what you could do to better it - effects included. I like darker scifi though!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I'd be onboard with a 'classic' example of the show, with the same uniforms, etc. I think that would be awesome. Who knows, maybe they'll pull it off.
Stories, as human creations, exist in time within a given cultural period. You can't just go back and recreate that moment when a particular TV series is created even though you can rerun the original as many times as you want. Reboots (almost) invariably fail because the context in which the original was created no longer exists. The few successes (e.g., Battlestar Galactica 2004) are not really reboots but complete creations on their own that echo or rhyme with the original. The current failure is because they are not trying to create something new, but are instead trying to recapture something that is long gone. Recreating a dead franchise is not sufficient to produce a new market. Roddenberry tried for years to resurrect Star Trek and the thing that worked (i.e., TNG) had to start from scratch with something new.
Galactica 1980 finished it off ……or maybe make Galactica 2025 and have the Galactica still observing Earth and able to disguise itself from detection in space
….and able to defend the Sol -Earth planet from invaders yet have the Galactica have a ‘Prime directive ‘ like non-interference policy in Earths internal affairs yet realize the time is coming when Earth will be ready to make contact. Galactica citizens slowly visit and blend in to different nations and societies.
Even if they avoid the G80 route completey, I hope any continuation of the original would also include Boxey & Dillon. Maybe an alternate version of Jamie too!
I'll take Glenn Larson's 78 BSG any day. There was political infighting and disagreements, but humanity basically came together.
Here here! Same here...
A new show within the OG continuity would work! Nostalgia is so strong right now for the OG series that I can’t believe Universal can be this clueless!
Yup. The only thing bad about BSG 78 was Larson himself. Funny that.

I cannot believe the reboot started in 2003. Has that much time really passed? Still the top show on my personal all time list.
It seems longer ago because they dragged out the seasons so long I think. Only '4' seasons but it was almost always on the verge of being canceled. I don't want them to make a new one for a long time if ever, because they'll still woke it up and let's be honest, most streaming shows suck and are canceled real quick.

I thought it was OG material based on some stuff I read at the star of the series but now I don’t know!🤔

It’s a great idea! Paramount did it with TOS to great financial success!
Quite a few of us prefer pre-CGI effects.

As you can see I have a long memory with Battlestar.

imagine the depression of the writers and producers when people told them that their revolutionary forward idea of putting women at the same level with men, with black characters being taken seriously, and plot points involving serious political matters, had already been done DECADES before they were even born.... twice.
just IMAGINE the shattering of their entire reality... the crushing of those hopes of liberating light on THESE trying times of 2024, where THEY are "oppressed minorities".
I would have payed to see that.
Paid not payed. Other than that I TOTALLY AGREE!

The problem with BSG is it has the same problem of Gilligan's or Star Trek Voyage. The BSG crew is looking for a new world once that occurs then show ends.
Yup! GL always said that was the trap that OG show would have eventually had faced had it gone on for years.
It *might* have worked... if the Earth they'd found had been the one from *Buck Rogers!*
Or Star Trek!
Exactly, look at Galactica 1980. They thought they could continue the show even though they found Earth.
He’s a nice guy but his idea of what BSG should be is not what the fans want.
Hey sexy cylons wasn’t your thing? 😂
Good ideas. I hope Universal is reading some of these comments because they make sense!!
I look at the reboot as Galactica's version of Star Trek's evil mirror universe where humanity got what it deserved....
Lol! Ok, that’s good!!! Thanks!!😂
Humanity deserved Starbuck being turned into a female, and Colonel Tighe being turned from a good black man into a White Drunk guy? LMAO
The Blood and Chrome movie in SyFy show's continuity actually had the original series version of cylons.
If Universal needs a family type Battlestar Galactica they should continue the original series with the Battlestar Galactica and the Rag Tag fleet still on a on a lonely quest for earth 🌍
Agreed!! Thanks for watching!
The ONLY BATTLESTAR GALACTICA THAT MATTERS IS THE ORIGINAL and Richard Hatch / Captain Apollo HAD IT RIGHT.

You are absofreakinlutely correct!!!! Original Battlestar Galactica is the only Battlestar Galactica!! Reboot was rubbish!!!
Yep!
I like them both for what they are.
Both were great and distinct things.
Hopefully they can go back to the original source material like you said, would love it. Also need some Retro figures to go along with it.
They really should!! What’s the point of a reboot if it’s not going to use what made the original so great?!
Strange New Worlds is not in the OG continuity, it is in an alternative continuity. It was part of STD which is now de-canonized (thank god) which means SNW is now also de-canonized.
😳
Discovery was not decanonized. The Schrödinger Field turning the TNG era Klingons into Discovery era Klingons was a sight gag and nothing more.
Key points about this "discanonization":
Reason for removal:
Many fans and critics felt "Discovery" deviated too much from the established Star Trek universe.
Confirmation source:
The final episode of "Lower Decks" is cited as the definitive source confirming "Discovery" as non-canon.
Impact:
This means that the events and characters from "Discovery" are now considered to be from a separate alternate timeline."
@@terrylong8894 Of course it wasn't de-canonized... it was ever canon in the first place!
I really was hoping that it would be as you suggested a type of STTNG show. Unfortunately it was just going to be a remake of the ReImagined series. 😔
Any chance of a video on the cancelled-during-production *Singer DeSantos Battlestar Galactica* continuation? It was before B.Singer was exposed, of course! They were building full-size Vipers designed by Guy Hendrix Dyas when the plug was pulled.

The question is where is DeSantis?? For a while he was Mr. BSG and then disappeared! 🤔
Good premise for a video! 👍
Your right. Unfortunately time is running out for many of us older fans!

I would like to see a Reboot of Babylon Five Interestinly, I can't seem to find any reruns of Babylon Five anywhere on Cable TV. I think Babylon Five had a very underlying Political Message which was very Radical which the Establishment- the Ruling Elite doesn't like.
Something strange going on with B5. They did issue an animated movie but with almost no publicity. 🤔
JMS had plans to a Babylon 5 reboot for The CW before Nexstar took over..sadly they fell through.

Anyway, if you can tell me where I might be able to watch the original B5 for free or low price as well as maybe the Animated Movie that would be good.. Thanks!
Now that is original and could work! Thanks!!
It’s a disaster! The problem is that eventually no one will care anymore (a lot of us of fans are getting old!).
From what I understand there is some cgi stuff but so far nothing has leaked.
No more BATTLE-💲E❌ RA🅿️E-TACULAR!
Why can't they get this right?! It's obvious! Just continue the 1978 series instead!

Yes and yes!!! Thanks again!! 😊
Peacock is not stupid. They knew that it was BAD!
@@battlestarcollectica7106MR ROBOT started out ok but then got TOO weird quickly. That same guy was over the newest BSG
Too much money ? That was the reason/ excuse they used on the cancellation of the original.
👍
The BSG show (both original and new) are my favourite sci fi tv series of all time. I have a massive collection of action figures, ships, etc. some autographed, etc.
I would love to see a semi reboot.. or at least a continuation from the point just before they found earth.
It just may be over for BSG. I’m sure they will attempt it again in a few years but by then will anyone care?
What I’d REALLY like to see is something new!!!
Agreed! I got into dark matter after I finished the reboot but that show got cancelled just as it got interesting. Ah well.
I’m with you but not something that is going to depress me every episode!
I hate the new Coke. A lot of brand new variants of Pepsi suck too.
But I love Pepsi. Original Pepsi.
@ good news for you, all those reruns are free on Tubi!
I love Cherry Pepsi and pizza!
Agreed! You’re spot on when it comes to how Hollywood treats properties today. Just look at Disney!
@ interesting. That’s exactly what they swore they were not gonna do. If he’s you ever come across a script, could you let us know?
It will be very hard to replicate the feel of the old series, if there's no Starbuck, Apollo, Boomer, Adama or General Tigh, Boxy the robot dog on the side of the heroes and for the villains the original Cylon robots led by Boltar, its just not Battlestar Galactica.
If its got to be updated and woke they could at least have the main characters with the same personalities of the original series and keep things simple with just two genders instead of weighing it down with all the equal rights for all types bullshit.
It could be done. Just imagine a STTNG style show set in the OG universe.
Think how cool it would be right now for a family friendly adventure show! The time is so perfect!
Does anyone other than the access media actually care about the 2003 series? I've heard it never got the best ratings when it was on and even today most merchandise that comes out is of the 70s version.
The 30 year olds that work at Universal think that’s what BSG should be. They are clueless!
LOL.
First 2 seasons were entertaining
I think maybe wait until next decade when all the 2020s crazy has hopefully faded to try again.
nonsense. there's a reason why the empire looks like Nazis in a New Hope. As if political commentary was something new to the scifi genre. lol
Very interesting stuff! Thanks for that!
I agree. These networks want instant hits and sure things. Sci-fi is very iffy!
The proof is right there. Reboot the original series,if done correctly, would kill all other franchises because people are hungry for this.

I agree but unfortunately Universal believes that the fans want a new version of the 2003 show! 🤷♂️ I know makes no sense!!
So, basically canned by the network for not being aimed directly the the "Wal-Mart & McDonald's Idiocracy". What a surprise!
The comments in the video that it "would appeal to a limited audience" and "the country's mood has changed" makes me think it was too woke. Looks like studio execs are taking notice of what audiences think of newer movies such as the Snow White remake.
Your right! Sad but very true.
Any new updates on the Battlestar Galactica Feature film in development?
It’s dead.
Now that is a good premise and at least imaginative! Universal just wants to remake the 2003 series!
If they were smart they would pick up from where the last episode ended on the original series. No reboots, no reimagining.

Perhaps Universal ought to demonstrate some creativity & simply come up with a brand new story instead of going for yet another re-boot.
They just want to stay with what they think will make money, nothing more!

I agree with you! Many criticizing the OG series don’t remember that it was very much a product of the late 1970s when SWs was king.
Season one was good but I do agree with you.
(Herbert Jeffersen Jr.'s question I believe.)
On another note , why wasn't ''Universal,' prepared with two versions of 'Battlestar Galactica,' one 'Classic,' and the other 'reimagined,' version so the could cover all their Basestars (So to speak).
After watching this I thank the Lords of Kobal that it was cancelled
😂🤣😂🤣
Simply (re)doing the original Battlestar series or adding "new episodes/stories" as closely as possible (like Star Trek Continues did) would be a massive win imo
Agreed!!!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 link? I hadn't idea that it was even tried
the way that bsg ended the franchise makes it impossible to reboot, they kind of really done a number on it the last season with Tye and cheif and anders being cylons and having anders being the jump computer, that just really left a bad taste in most of our mouths. Not sure how you go about rebooting something that was shot in the head.
The first season was very good and then things got a little strange!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I like it until the last season, when the find the last cylon models and things got strange and stayed strange and I never figure out what starbuck was, was she cylon or something else
@@battlestarcollectica7106 the last season was very strange, and I still want somebody to explain was starbuck a cylon or something else totally?
I assume they have to make a show or movie in a certain time frame to maintain the rights... They should just continue the original in the '70s aesthetic and recast the characters, or give us an animated continuation. So many of us who enjoyed the original are still around.
We are getting older so Universal has to do something fast!
I agree that it would have been a mistake to try doing the dark 2003 bag thing again. It already exists and there's no way that they could do better than what was already done.
Going with the more space-fantasy style would have been better. People want escape right now, life right now for most people is already "dark and gritty"
Many hardcore fans don’t like a more family friendly show but it’s what needed right now.
The problem is that Universal only has interest in rebooting the 2003 show. They think that’s what the fans want.
is it's NOT the 1978 Galactica, it's not the real Battlestar Galactica!
I’m with you!! 👍
Heres a thought...why not do the First Cylon war using actors in actual Cylon costumes! It would be insane to see!
I agree!! Go back in time at the start of 1000 year war!!
huge financial hits? i gave up on the jj Abram's series.
Paramount says it’s a hit. I believe you instead!
2:53 - Star Trek Strange New Worlds does NOT take place in proper Trek. It's just another full blown reboot.
Thanks for the info!
The reptile aliens are extinct, the original cylons were robots who rebelled against the aliens. The reboot just cut out the aliens.
@@Halbared Do you mean those British hardcover 'annuals'? Those books are pretty cool. I have a Galactica one.
Sounds like a great idea to me!! The problem is Universal!!
No one wants a bomb and it looks like this new version just wasn’t good.
there was a lot of good points to the 2003 reboot, but as a big fan of the original, there was a lot I didn't like about the reboot and was glad it was over. the money issue did come up in the originals run as well and we seen the quality falling during the shows run.
Agreed!!
I’m planning an episode that takes a look at what S2 may have looked like. I agree with you that it’s scary!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I'm glad I didn't give any spoilers then.
Probably a good thing, especially considering the awful re-imagining in 2003 where they ruined the continuity and the Cylons!
I agree.
Agreed!!! 👍👍👍👍
They are positives that can be shown to investors. Disney in particular needs a hit badly!
They will never do detter than the last reboot. Just forget it.
I agree and it’s rumored that this lastest project was just a watered down remake of that show. Just horrible!
Well... seeing as how the reboot was terrible, that isn't really as high a bar to get over as you think.
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 terrible? you must be an Andor fan. lol
How do you make a post apocalyptic story fun? That was the key flaw with the original.
Star Wars isn't focused on one event, and can branch across a wide variety of characters.
BSG is focused on one event.
I think you could do something that is not so much fun but less heavy/pessimistic than the 2003 series.
I'm a huge fan of the original and the reboot both. I have to say, it sounds as though execs made the right call. A rarity. I don't want the Partridge Family in Space, but we could go with a little less grit and a little more escapism. Hopefully they restart the project from scratch and avoid silly extremes.
I personally think that it’s over for BSG. They really are clueless!
How about an animated version of the show? Not like 'Lower Decks', that's been done recently, but something more inline with the original BSG series like Star Trek: The Animated Series was for the original Star Trek. But hopefully with better animation.
A few fans have suggested that. It could work!!
I think you’re right. BSG may be finished.
Big fan of the original BSG and it is overall my favorite version. Galactica 1980 not so much, but the Ron Moore reboot was Very Good and I enjoyed it immensely. Solid story and effects.
I was with you up until the RM reboot...
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701Exactly!! Reboot was horrendous!!!
Some very good stories in the ReBoot series.
I prefer the reimagined series myself, but I have watched the original and like it too. I mean though, the post-apocalyptic setting of the series feels better when things are dark and gritty. But, a Ligh hearted episode now and again wouldn't hurt. I don't mind going back to energy weapons either.
It could be done if Universal would just listen to the fans!
@@5eddie5agreed and with the same space action scenes used over and over zzzzz
The original series was pretty dark for 1978. Many people tuned in and expected Star Wars but instead got something much different. Still amazes me that it even got green lit!
I think they should just went back to the roots and use the real Starbucks before he died have a command the Pegasus that would have been far more interesting and then introduce new characters
Because you would look old enough for that time to pass from from 1980 make the Pegasus go through a wormhole or something
Be kind of nice calm with his full name general Starbuck Achilles just use Fred Astaire's name that was supposed to be his dad
Dirk is still alive and well! I wish Universal would call him. He would be a great Commander of the BSG now!!
Look, the original was "I want to tell this cool story I made up."
And then the reboot was "I want to reimagine this story with grit and really put these guys thru the wringer"
Was this most recent attempt anything other than "let's copy Ron Moore's homework but change it up a bit"?
I think you may be right.
Could work! Now you need to convince Universal!
I just was told that but according to some sources it’s not true?
This is kinda true and not true. Has'nt been outright confirmed by Paramount yet that Discovery is an alternate universe only that the Klingons from Discovery do exist in an alternate timeline. I despise Discovery more than most, but there are plenty of ways that the Discovery Klingons could still unfortunately be cannon. I have also heard that SNW is still canon from the same sources that say Discovey is retconned so.....until Paramount outright confirms, It's still unfortunately cannon.
SNW started with such great promise. I thought they might even rival TNG!
I can't believe how they dropped that ball!
I think the STTNG idea is the way to go. Thanks for watching! !
When ever they remake anything they ruin it 😢
Agreed!!
Universal is still making money around the world off of the 1978 show. The Reboot is not as popular outside of North America.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 yeah can't comment on rerun popularity but I'm in the UK. Have the reboot boxed set and a model viper 4
This is literally the first time I'm even hearing about another Battlestar Galactica lol
I’ve been wanting to talk about it for awhile now. Very frustrating for me because I originally had high hopes!
Good advice...let's hope it works!
Universal loves making money. Producing something in the OG universe would make them a ton of money!
Agreed but with a little creativity there is a slim chance that something could be created out of the TOS continuity.
Galactica 1980 finished it off ……or maybe make Galactica 2025 and have the Galactica still observing Earth and able to disguise itself from detection in space
That could work!
I hate this modern obsession to make Sci Fi shows "gritty" and "realistic"..in this case the network made a good decision.
I agree!
Not only would Galactica not find Earth, but Earth wouldn't find Galactica since it would be on Peacock.
😂🤣😂🤣
Even if they avoid the G80 route completey, I hope any continuation of the original would also include Boxey & Dillon. Maybe an alternate version of Jamie too!
I’m sure they could be fit into continuity. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
Thanks! Happy New Year to you also!
