Her death probably made the show better than if she had stayed the whole series. The show needed major tragedy and the fact that she was such a loved character all the more made her death show how high the stakes were and it made Apollo a much darker character.

What I remember was BSG was shown in SensoRound. The technology for surround sound was coming, it was a third track of audio with deliberately overdone bass - we now call it subwoofer - for when things got blowy-uppy. It was actually pretty cool. Serina had the best hair of any woman in the ragtag fleet. Her death certainly seemed unfair to Boxey, who had just lost his real parents, not to mention his pet, entire culture, and planet. I think her death was extremely detrimental to the character of Boxey from a writing perspective as it must have become very difficult afterwards to use the role which had been inserted to connect with kids, who were living comfortably at home watching TV with their very much alive parents and had not experienced despair or loss, as intended. Robin, from the 60's Batman show, had also experienced the off-screen loss of his parents just like Boxey, but imagine if Alfred had died on screen in front of Robin in the third or fourth episode. On the other hand, BSG always walked a thin line between apocalyptical space Mad Max dystopian survival and happy go lucky Buck Rogers future action fun.

I read Seymour was dissapointed her character wasn't more like the newswoman played by Jane Fonda in THE CHINA SYNDROME, which was how it was originally described to her. She also felt her best acting moments ended up being lost when the subplot about her illness was cut, which left her looking dewey-eyed in her scenes with Apollo, without the original explaination that she was secretly aware she was dying.

Dumb is not knowing the difference between being contracted to a tv series then asking to leave, and agreeing to do limited role for the tv series that she had not originally signed up to do in the first place. Did you actually watch the video?
There is a big difference between a 20-22 episode TV Series which if renewed means returning the following year, and 3 episode mini-series in terms of what is involved.
She had done TV Series before, She had a role in The Onedin Line a successful British TV Series which she had left to do Live and Let Die. So she knew the rigours of weekly TV series shoots and didn't want to be involved with the week in week out shooting requirements.. The original Captain Janeway in Voyager, Geneviève Bujold quit after a day and half of shooting as she found it difficult to deal with the daily shoot requirements and the shows production team found she was struggling with the work.
Not really till Dr Quinn in the 1990's that see her sign up for a recurring TV series role, her career does have TV roles but rarely as a week in, week out recurring character. Mainly either 1 off episodes or as a part time role such as she had in Smallville which recurs for a limited number of episodes.
Whilst she is now in Harry Wild as full time recurring role, being an Irish TV Series as opposed to American then is only between 6-8 episodes per season, so not the same timescales for the shoot that a 20-22 TV Series would entail.
Patrick Stewart is also well known for his initial lack of interest in taking the role of Jean Luc Picard in Star Trek: Next Generation, basically taking it because his agent said whilst was a 6 year contract the show wouldn't last.

Over the years I had seen or heard several rumors about why Jane Seymour quit "Galactica," most of which did not make sense. Although this doesn't really delve much into her reasons why she did not want to commit to a series, I do have a suspicion about something, a theory based on at least one established fact. The narrator said that she was loved by all the actors on the set, which was likely, after all, Aquarian natures do have a demeanor like gravity...but the unspoken truth was none loved her more than Richard Hatch, who had a real-world crush on her (he admitted to that in an interview a few years before his death). I suspect that had to make for a very awkward situation for her, presuming she did not feel the same way. After all, how can one expect to act out a romantic relationship with another character when the actor of that character has a real-world thing for one...? Although she's never spoken of it, I would not be surprised if that had at least been a contributing factor to her decision to quit.
Naturally, back in the '70s, there was no such thing as "MeToo" or special-victim advocacy to put Hatch on a leash, so the only way to escape his obsession was to sever ties with the series. I don't doubt that it didn't break her heart at the time; after all, she still considered herself a *British* star, not American; that would change later, after successes like "Somewhere In Time" and "East Of Eden" made it clear to her that her best outlets for success were *American* movies and TV shows.

Yet, when the DVD and later Blu' were released, good to see the film sections, that "this" was the plan. Yes, I had a youth-crush (and later) for Jane S'. the ending of Planet of the Gods still hits had on viewing. I have always believed that the loss of Jane Seymour's character DID hurt the series. First, the series was supposed to be about family as much as anything. Starbuck was supposed to be the womanizer. However, it always felt like the series had planned on Apollo being a 'family man' and with the death of Serina, it was like they really didn't know what to do with him and Boxey. There were some not so great attempts at love interests for Apollo, but they never worked, and there wasn't a lot for Boxey to do. Had Seymour stayed, they could have leaned more into the romance between the two and the family aspect. In addition, I think that her presence would have affected both the ratings, and influenced the powers that be in the network to keep the show on the air for at least another season. It wasn't a matter of the show being bad without her. It was GREAT... but she left a hole that they never fixed, and of course, the show would have been that much better with her.
