Man I just love your content and positivity overall. I was bummed not to get the metal patch but after watching this video you absolutely made me feel better by putting it in perspective- it is absolutely about the bags not about the patches and I will also cover the double barrel (compartment) bullet from this collection in a slightly different format because after a couple of days rocking this bag, I just can’t find a good enough reason why it’s not my bag of the year in all categories. I sort of figured huckberry is going to get their hands on this drop but thanks for reaffirming that thought, because I am most likely going to grab another bullet, which was the only piece of this capsule I ended up grabbing at the original drop. The bag is just so impressive especially with the dimensions which I felt were definitely understated but had no idea that it loads out at about 25L capacity, although i am not at all surprised that a Goruck bag fits more than the advertised volume, which ironically was my biggest issue with the unicorn 2.0 release, as that one did the opposite and probably was a lot closer to 18L capacity than the advertised 22L. Also, just as a side note I know you kept referring to Ultra as woven strands of dyneema which is not wrong but to be precise dyneema is a brand that started to offer non woven UHMWPE material for general consumption so for example X-50 X-PAC actually uses brand name Cordura in its build but ULTRA by Challenge Sailcloth uses non branded UHMWPE in its build not exactly dyneema - the only reason I bring this up is because GSM that makes Dyneema is more of a competitor to Challenge Sailcloth that makes Ultra but as I said not too important just in case you wanted to be technical… either way I love your content and admire your enthusiasm for all that’s awesome about the world of carry. I do have a few brand name suggestions for you which you may or may not be familiar with so let me know if you would like a couple of brands that I don’t think I’ve ever heard you mention or review but I think would very much appreciate checking out. Have a good one and keep up the excellent content.

That chart comparing the bullet double compartment 🤯 is the reason that despite my desire for a heritage GR2 makes it impossible for me to not try and save $300 to try out the double compartment first. For $300 I will give those more narrow shoulder straps and non stretchy internal “plate pocket” a chance. When I get past how much I love my current heritage GR1 and look at things from a sober minded economical perspective it’s a no brainer. Can you leave one of each kind outside during a rain storm to see the waterproof level of each bag? (Ultra, dyneema, xpac, and 1000d) I live in FL and it rains a lot during the rainy season.
Hmmm, maybe. Nothing planned like that at the moment. Nothing is 100% waterproof unless it’s designed for rafting. I do have a PDW All Terrain bag I’m about to test and that’s very waterproof

Nothing is 100% but I was curious about which fabric is the most waterproof ish. I just picked up the GR1 Kaidan 3.0 because I hope its the most waterproof fabric.
One aspect you neglected to talk about is value. I opted out of this drop of the 18 DC to purchase the Robic version (in part based on your recommendation of the 16L DC). I was able to get the 18L Robic version for $225 with a discount code, which is $175 cheaper than the Blaze. Granted, value is a very subjective thing, but that said… it’s hard to justify that amount of up-charge for the same bag in just a different material.
@@UA-camWatts my zippers are very smooth. I would say shockingly smooth for aquaguard. I was a little nervous about the aquaguard zippers before I ordered the bag, but very happy with it.
I always watch your videos they are gooood, but it'll be awesome to see more about how it packs, how it wears and every pocket they have. I guess you know they look almost the same as previous iterations so you skip all that but it is still nice to see every feature and not just the differences they have with previous bags.

Thanks for all ur videos man - huge fan of ur content! Question - looking at a kit bag 2.0 and there’s a cordura version and a Robic version where u get some of the carryovers from the Kaiden like shoe pocket and handle retainer. Thoughts on going for the robic to get the extras or just sticking to the 1000d cordura (which I know u typically like better). Neither of the upgrades seem like must haves for me but then again I have never owned one.
They totally snuck that robic one in there...I had to go take a look on the web. I personally would stick with the cordura or waxed canvas because I like those materials better for that bag. I also don't like the looks of the Kit Bag with the shoe pocket on the bottom...but that's just me. If you think you'll use that compartment then robic is the only way right now.
@@JBOutside1 thx for the reply! The shoe pocket looks so low profile that ur pretty much smashing whatever is in there under the weight of the bag anyway. I think if shoes r a priority use case the gym bag probably makes more sense for that!
Great video as always. I've read a few people claiming these Mark very easily and aren't very abrasion resistent. Are your bags picking you up any marks easily?
Not really. Been dragging this thing around all week for travel. Some minor markings but nothing terrible. I believe this will show marking easier then others but it's all cosmetic and nothing that effects its integrity. Ultra is crazy good at abrasion resistance.

So I have a question. Had you received the double barrel 18 gauge bullet prior to your bag of the year awards, how do you think it would have stacked up against 🦄 2.0 in your opinion? Do you think the bullet would have taken the award? For me by a landslide this ultra blaze beast of a bag is a clear winner for bag of the year if not of the decade and I’m not nearly into Goruck in general as you are. Also I think it’s so drastically different from all previous variants of this bag except of course its ripstop counterpart, which of course is also new for 2023. So to me this bag absolutely qualifies for short travel or edc category as a brand new bag because it’s just so different than its predecessors and I still am fascinated with the actual volume because this bag doesn’t carry like a large pack if you look at it from the outside but man does it pack a 🥊…

After using the bullet for the last few days it doesn't feel like a bullet...or a GR1...it's almost its own thing.
@@JBOutside1 I agree 100% that it’s absolutely its own thing. Good point about not making a quick decision too. The reason I knew right away that it hit every imaginable check mark for me was my prior experience with a number of Ultra fabrics. It doesn’t patina too much which may be a plus for some and a minus for others but expect it to look nearly brand new years down the road. I have been into technical fabrics for some time now so to me when its main competitors are Kevlar or Teflon used in bullet proof vests (no pun intended), Ultra at this point, is nearly bullet proof quite literally and truly nearly cut proof. I feel like it beats dyneema in the non crinkle category and just overall has a much nicer hand feel and texture in my opinion. Otherwise, GR2 has by far been my favorite bag in the GORUCK all star lineup so to be able to get it in a truly EDC package is so special that as soon as I learned about the Kaidan 3.0 drop, I knew it would be love at first sight and I was right. What’s understated about ultra when talking about all of its element resistant perks is the fact that it’s also an absolute winner in security features as well because the material is so dense (yet light weight) that it’s literally nearly cut proof. Anyway, I generally don’t like to jump to quick conclusions but having a pretty elaborate experience with ultra and specifically 400X, I pretty much know how it’s going to perform material wise hence a quick winner for bag of the year for me…
Does your Kaidan GR2 26L or GR1 21L get much run or is the Bullet always your go to EDC/short trip option? I have all three and should probably cull the herd...
The bullet is in daily rotation for work. The other two are travel options and don't see a lot of action at the moment...but that's mostly because I am constantly testing something new.
Great review! I will say, I couldn't rock the new Ultra bullet - the material is a little stiffer for such a small bag and the straps were too narrow to get comfortable for me. Maybe I should have kept it and hoped it broke in, but I ended up trading for the GR1 21L and am excited about that. I might try to grab the GR2 on the next drop - I got rid of that, thinking I was going to keep the bullet, but then it just didn't feel good wearing it.
Interesting it didn’t work. After a few days with the bullet and traveling with it I think I specific video of GR1 vs this bullet is necessary. So similar yet very different

JB, does mounting a field pocket interfere with the capacity of the QAP to any noticeable amount? or do you you mount the field pocket on the second row of Molle to avoid that?

Your videos are really informative, but I hesitate to purchase pending these future drops. Really appreciate the heads up on Huckberry too.
I would say there are always some sort of issue with each drop...regardless of the companies involved. I do agree that there was some hiccups with the initial posting on day 1 and day 2 has been marred by early adding of the items on the webpage along with confusion on how the first 250 orders were identified. That all being said, the items in this release are outstanding. I know the team behind the scenes is aware of these issues and will do what they can to tidy things up in the future. In their defense, handling an instant, massive, self-imposed, DNS attack on your website is challenging.
I mean there was an article on Carryology (who is doing the colab). On the day the website linked to GoRuck pages. And on the GoRuck site there was a banner at the top of the page. It’s just a bag, let me guess you didn’t get a Velcro patch? 😂😂😂
All these bag companies can kiss my ass with their exclusive drops. Just build the high quality products that you sell on a "drop" that people want, like they think they are fucking exclusive. It's $350 dollar bag, not a fucking 1964 antique mustang.

I have effectively refused to buy products from any these "special drops" companies. I own alpaka gear and matador at this point because both companies just make good products, and don't rely on a group of weirdos that need 25 backpacks from one-off "collaboration drops". Everyone in this weird ass bag community circle jerks to these companies every time someone drops a "limited run" product. Like Goruck can go eat ass and I'll never spend a dime on their shit.

Yeah, I know. The patch complaining is at another level. I can see what you mean about the waxed canvas...so classic!

The answer is it does interfere slightly, but not enough to bother me. With this taller bag I might try mounting it a row lower to see how it works

Something to mention is the drop for these bags was poorly executed.
I would say there are always some sort of issue with each drop...regardless of the companies involved. I do agree that there was some hiccups with the initial posting on day 1 and day 2 has been marred by early adding of the items on the webpage along with confusion on how the first 250 orders were identified. That all being said, the items in this release are outstanding. I know the team behind the scenes is aware of these issues and will do what they can to tidy things up in the future. In their defense, handling an instant, massive, self-imposed, DNS attack on your website is challenging.

All these bag companies can kiss my ass with their exclusive drops. Just build the high quality products that you sell on a "drop" that people want, like they think they are fucking exclusive. It's $350 dollar bag, not a fucking 1964 antique mustang.

@@JBOutside1 it's not a dis on you, you make killer videos and helped me make multiple decisions on different travel gear. I appreciate your content and what you do. I have effectively refused to buy products from any these "special drops" companies. I own alpaka gear and matador at this point because both companies just make good products, and don't rely on a group of weirdos that need 25 backpacks from one-off "collaboration drops". Everyone in this weird ass bag community circle jerks to these companies every time someone drops a "limited run" product. Like Goruck can go eat ass and I'll never spend a dime on their shit.

I don’t review EVERYTHING, only things I personally enjoy. But as you say the hype gets ridiculous…on that we can agree
