      Here's a fun fact. Sting lived above a Chinese Takeaway growing up in Newcastle, England, while George Michael's Family lived above a Fish & Chip Shop where his Mother once worked then helped him out at The Restaurant her Husband owned called Mr. Jack's, which was a Greek Restaurant. In England they are known as Takeaways. Alot Of Boy Band/Girlband Icons worked in Cafes/Bars/Restaurants before hitting The Big Time.

      @itsmylife842 5 років тому +10

      Yes, that got me too. LOL
      Well, at this point in the series, Barnes kind of was a cheap man. But that was because, at this time J. R. was already very wealthy, while Cliff was at most an upper-middle class lawyer and not a wealthy man. Remember that this was before his mother Rebecca bought him his own oil company.
      After that, and especially after Cliff hit his off-shore oil strike with Gold Canyon 340, when he narrowly dodged the attempt J. R. made to bankrupt Barnes Wentworth [Cliff's Oil company], Cliff was as rich as J. R. or maybe a little bit richer than J. R. Ewing was!! From that point on in the series, they were pretty much on an evenly matched footing, in terms of their overall wealth, much to J. R.'s chagrin.

    Cliff Barnes was a selfmade man despite his father being a drunk and his mother deserting him. He graduated from Law School and had a great future for himself. Tragically, he got sucked into the Barnes-Ewing feud over a lie. Digger was not cheated out of Ewing Oil and Miss Ellie by Jock. It was the booze. He wasted his life trying to avenge his father. But, if Barnes hadn't been so consumed with bringing down the Ewings, there wouldn't be a show.

      Yeah, also Digger "Lied" to his Children about what really happened. He was so ashamed at his downfall it as easier to blame Jock than himself. I hated how they made Cliff into someone who was pure evil in the revived series. That never sat well with me and was not how Cliff in the original series was. I did not like that and I did not like they had Bobby's wife in the revived series end up having feelings for her ex husband who was abusive. If the series had gone on I bet she would have cheated on Bobby. Also did not like how much they changed the look at f Ewing oil/ Ewing Energy and Southfolk.

      And to think that Robert Foxworth lamented about losing out on the role of JR to Larry Hagman. I can't see Foxworth doing justice to the JR character.
      However, Hagman had some guest starring roles in TV series that got him prepped for the JR character. Check out the previous TV characters he played in Police Story; The Streets of San Francisco; and Barnaby Jones . . .they were all variations of the JR character . . . charming when he had to be, but underneath, scheming and conniving.

He didn't have a fraction of what JR has. @@jonstefanik9400 Yes! Sorry for the Late Reply. Also Sue Ellen's Mother played "Lisa" one of Julian Kaye's Clients in American Gigolo. Firth also acted in The Movie. Julian (Played By Richard Gere) pleaded with Lisa to confirm to Detective Sunday that they were "together" when Judy Rhineman was Murdered. She was too scared to tell feeling she'd be part of a Scandal. Also The Husband called Julian a "Liar" saying "My Wife Was With Me The Whole Time". Either it was one of one of two factors, either they "lied" to The Police, or The Husband watched them having Sex.

    "I know how to play the other man's game." ...and the others in and around the Ewing family never quite figured that out about J.R. The secret to his success was his almost supernatural ability to read people and immediately determine who they are and what is most important to them, then use that to his advantage. He played most of them like a master violinist and most of the time they didn't know it until it was too late.

    • @PlanetBlake

      Arthur Name: True. JR was a master tactician. But being that way takes a real lack of morality and empathy toward your fellow human beings. Not to say that Cliff most times didn't deserve it, but still, most of the people JR hurt were people who didn't deserve it.

    • @PlanetBlake
      @PlanetBlake 5 років тому +2

      Matt Beeman : Yeah, Cliff wasted the better part of his life perpetuating a feud with the Ewings, that never should have happened in the first place. He destroyed his relationship with his mother, and every woman in his life, because he was always more obsessed with revenge and power, than with his personal relationships. Even Pam got feed up with him more than a few times.

    The Character of Cliff Barnes was based on Robert Kennedy. In this Scene you saw more of Ted Kennedy. He was The Baby Brother who although tried, couldn't measure up the the achivements of Joe Jr., Jack, or Robert. He probably knew that if his last name wasn't Kennedy he would have had any power. Also the Layout that Cliff admired was similar to the Layout that Phillip Spaulding had on Guiding Light where he was going to revitalize Springfield and make their Family the most powerful.

    I was hoping in the reboot, John Ross finds out thru a DNA test that he is NOT JR's son; he is really Cliff Barnes' son. When JR and Cliff were fighting over John Ross' paternity and a blood test came back JR as the father, it turns out JR paid the technician to switch the results, and thus JR was really raising Cliff's son, the ultimate revenge against Cliff. It could also explain why John Ross always felt out of place with JR and could relate to Pamela Rebecca, his half-sister
