Ben was played by a Gambian Pouched Rat, which is why he's so big! You can keep them as pets in some countries, but they're more shy and aggressive than ordinary pet rats, and can chew their way through a couch. Not recommended for newbies. I think in the movie he's supposed to symbolise Willard's dark, violent side, while Socrates symbolises his sweet side. Hence why he's wary of Ben and only teams up with him after Socrates' death pushes him over the edge.
PS: If you have rats or mice in your house, don't use glue traps like the one in the movie. They're incredibly cruel and rats can and will gnaw off entire limbs to escape. Even feral pest rats don't deserve that kind of agony.
Cons: A cat dies in this movie
Pros: We finally get to see a Joker-esque backstory movie for TMNT's Rat King
Awww man! My mind went to Rat King too!
i thought a cat dying was appropriate since cats are always seen as the main antagonist in the rat community
As someone who has their own small army of pet rats, this makes me realize I’ve been thinking much to small. Socrates is so cute, and Ben!
time to make a rat boot camp
Is this the cat speaking, or is it your owner?
Me too, that's why I clicked on this video
George Mcfly really had a dark side. I guess he just just couldn't take that kind of rejection.
That cat A- team was hilarious 🤣
7:20 Thank you. I never seen this movie, but, being a cat person myself, had I seen this scene I would have lost it.
Being a cat lover too, i concour....so I keep humming Circle of Life to drown such scenes out...
@@LucianCorrvinus 😄
I'm 20 and I watched this movie as a kid and I'm pretty sure everyone else has seen this as a kid too, I really wish that I didn't have to watch that heartbreaking scene and I want to skip that part and I don't want to risk putting back in my head whenever I watch this
To the 2 ppl that disliked. Who hurt you?
This guy is amazing. Why eould u dislike
Two disgruntled cats, clearly.
It was probably my cat. This movie really effected him when he was a kitten.
They probably had their reasons
@@meghanphillips3495 thank you for helping my world make a little more sense
People who are afraid of rats would have problems watching this one.🐀😳
"Who the hell is Socrates?" That made me laugh so hard. 🤣🤣😂
That cracked me up lmaoo
Willard: dosent matter!, you killed him, AND NOW YOUR DEAD!
I truly believe that this film was Crispin Glover's audition for Norman Bates. And then the idiots who remade it hired Vince Vaughn 🤦♀️
He’d be a perfect Norman Bates
@@rocknroll20024 I know right!
Psycho remake came out 5 years earlier
Well i spilled my drink when The C-Team rolled in to save the cat and could not stop laughing.
The C-Team cutaway was greatly appreciated. That was a wholesome way to skirt around from what we could already anticipate was going to come from the scene with the cat. XD
I love the rat army scene so much.
Ben was theme song to Willard’s Sequel “Ben”
Let’s get this c team movie rolling
I read the book before seeing the film. Book was extremely disturbing. Then saw the original film version. It was so creepy, especially with all those rats! Film disturbed me as well. Didn't know about the remake.
Random musings - the "Tora Bora" brand rat poison is a reference to a location in Afghanistan that the U.S. struck after 9/11.
The ending - I don't know officially, but I think it was a re-shoot. It looks like Willard died right before that, where the rats all swarm him and he falls. Then the happier ending has him in the mental hospital making a new friend.
Thanks for the "C-Team" rescue of kitty. I mentally rewrite movie scenes that really disturb me - glad to see someone else does too!
*"Do you know how hard it is to commute in a sandwich shop?"*
**wheezes**
1:22 THIS PHOTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Me: *sees this video*
My brain: no, stop. you're not gonna be able to sleep agai--
My hands: *clicks on the vid* oOps
I have a major crush Crispin Glover! I love a fella with a good bone structure.
I tell you every role he plays I hear Drill Instructor Hartman. Rest in Power 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Lol that's cause every role he got later was a repeat of that
I’ve had the weirdest crush on Crispin Glover since he was in Charlie’s Angels 😳 I love rodents as well, this looks like my perfect movie!
He is pretty damn cute! 😘
I also had a weird crush on him from Charlie's Angels
I also liked that character, I remember being upset about him getting killed off in Charlie's Angels:Full Throttle.
Watch Wild at Heart. Or just watch the part with Christmas Dale. So hot and strange at the time. He also does performance art. There’s also a weird movie from the 80s when he was really young called Rivers edge and also has Keanu Reeves in it.
I love this movie
I’ve had a crush on Crispin Glover since Charlie’s Angels
As soon as I heard the crack about Senator Kelly not coming home after being killed by Magneto… SUBSCRIBED 👍🏻
I love your channel, your reviews are so funny and even if the film is shit you still try to find something good with it. You and Foundflix are the best review channels on UA-cam. Thank you
This movie traumatized my cat when he was a kitten! After he saw that cat scene, he refused to play with his mouse toys. He is three years old now and we haven't watched it since the incedent!
I listen to “Willard!” (Will Wood) once, and I find myself here.
(The song is really good too, reminds me of HP2)
He was always Megathron, but not everyone is allowed to call him by his middle name.
Dude who played Willard is one beautiful son of a bitch. I'd like to see that dude go a year without some broad trying at him.
I'm glad you finally talked about this movie! My sister loved rats so he got it for her, and I'm in love with the movie.
Hahaha I'm totally going to start trying to work "Title of your sex tape!" into all of my conversations henceforth.
The C Team?
Oh, _Cat_ Team!
I was _so_ off with what I thought it was...
This movie legit felt like a Batman movie without Batman.
Lol this can be an adapation of the rat catchers orgin story. Lol
Such a fun review!!
even if 2020 was awful, it was made a little better by finding you and your awesome channel
I never saw the movie; but I saw that 'Ben' scene once on UA-cam.
That cat's hopeful stare as it looked up at it's only scape route; only to be killed by the rats, haunts me to this day.
You see why I handled that scene the way I did 😆
Newbee dude, I haven't seen a video of you in a month! Thanks!
Crispin Glover is such a great actor, I wish he was in more movies.
Jeez, I forgot all about this movie! I remember the original giving me nightmares as I was WAY to young to have watched it, lol..
Thank you for saving Scully
I saw the original " Willard " in the 70's and never forgot the film experience !
As always , you never fail to surprise and amuse !
I love rats ♡ I used to have two that I adopted. They're really smart and loving. Ohno, I love cats too. That poor kitty!
This movie started my obsession with Crispin Glover
Damnit Mcfly! Clean up all this rat shit! Helloooo Mcfly!
My head canon is Willard went crazy and turned to the one crazy guy who is in Charlie's Angel's 2 Full Throttle for some reason...maybe after getting bit by rats he got some kind of rabies 🤣
when I saw this before it was very horror and cold weather
I saw this in the theater, I was one of the few people there, and I adored it! I'm excited to know the difference between the two versions. (I covered my eyes for the Scully the Cat scene!)
I've owned rats, they're the sweetest little guys. It's surreal seeing them painted as evil and carnivorous.
They are not evil but ARE carnivorous .
@@brooksequine7621 I mean like they don't go around eating people
@@jayvon96 :No ... not upon the average however , if one is down , ill or a helpless child or if one is dead , yes .
Rats WILL eat a human .
Even a pet rat is guilty of this . It's just the nature of the beast .
Cats will eat deceased owners as will eventually a dog if left with no other food source .
That's life .
@@brooksequine7621 aight rat expert chill lol
@@jayvon96 : : : ) )
We're cool . No worries!
But I , as you , dislike irrational people ... I'm coming from an agricultural background so I look at things with factual eyes .
Rats are incredible creatures , to be sure !
Well cared for rats easily reach around 4 yrs. Or more. The main problem is that they start to really show their age past 3.5 yrs or so with hair and weight loss. They are not exactly made for longevity. Still they can have happy healthy lives past 2 yrs and make amazing and affectionate pets.
I'm confused. So Willard was crazy an imagined everything? Or was the rats real?
It's not confusing it all happened in the end he was caught an put in the nut house because he was crazy
0:59 Technically, that wasn't "murder." It was a failed experiment. Legally, it might be classified as "manslaughter" combined with a litany of other stuff (including but not limited to kidnapping, conspiracy, and sedition), but since Magneto didn't intend to kill him, it's not "murder."
1:27 If he put on a pair of retro-style glasses, he'd actually look like Clark Kent. Why is he wearing that stuffy suit and tie while he's at home and about to go to bed?
2:51 Another good "numb-nuts!" quip is the one spoken emphatically by Ted Levine in 'The Mangler'.
11:38 "High-functioning sociopath! Do your research!" And yes, he's "high-functioning" in the clinical sense.
12:16 Not "schizophrenia." That would be if he actually did hear the rats talking to him. Or is that what they actually imply? I forget.
12:20 That wouldn't be schizophrenia. Possibly schizotypal personality disorder combined with some form of dissociation as a coping mechanism.
12:45 Imagine how Henry Jones, Sr. would feel! *};-P*
great movie, Glover was fantastic, the cat scene always makes me cringe though
9/10 scary AF. Too many little feet and rat tails make me gag
I need to see the spin-off movie of Scully’s rescue!
Learnt at today years old that not only was there an original movie, that a young Bruce Davidson starred. 👍
Who are you dude!? I fell asleep listening to Marilyn Manson and woke up to you my friend. Fun things happened when your asleep! You have a nice pleasant voice, are you quirky? I woke up liking you for a moment!? I'm super crank when I wake up, I feel refreshed man, thank you, your voice remember 😉 Thanks again my new friend, I'll check you out again.🖖😊
Literally watched this a day before this upload, was hoping you'd do a review
“That kid from high school looks so much like my son”
*cry laughing* Love your channel
George McFly kills Gunnery Sgt Hartman
Im an actual sociopath and even I liked that video. Imagine what kind of person would dislike it.
I never heard of this one, looks cool. Awesome vid dude.
That reminds me of the very controversial scene of the rats attacking a cat in the Japanese movie Unit 731. And it was all all real.
Umm. It was real?
From what I've read, it was kinda real. The cat was covered in honey dyed red or something, so the rats were going after that. I don't remember if the cat was actually hurt or not, but it was very distressed.
@@frog1405 In the original willard they covered people with peanut butter so the rats would go after them lol.
People still do that... for different reasons...
What do you like about BEN the old movie and "Willard"
God these videos are amazing! I love watching your videos
Ever done a review of Clown(2016)
O that movie is awesome.
I just LOVE your reviews! ty!
you could say that willard is pure "rodent rage"
This video > this story
Good acting
I always wanted to watch this movie, but was too squicked out by the rats to go through with it. Thanks for the recap and review! (and for The C-Team)
Oh my goodness I love this movie. Truth is it consistently ranks as one of the best remakes I have ever seen.
I saw this in the theater. I went up and talked to the projectionist after the movie. And he said this was the movie he knew cinema was doomed. Had almost no audience it's entire run. I enjoyed the hell outta it in the theater. But now that I think about it.... It was just me and my brother....damn.
The NeeBee is the best bee
An ad for the new Tom and Jerry movie came on as I was watching the rats vs. cats part. Wth?!
Love the music video at the end of the movie.... Ben
Until it showed the supermarket, it looked like a film from the 80's lol.
Old subscriber, new name and account btw ;) Loyal fan for well over a year now. I call me and the rest of your fan base The Drone Bees 🐝
Best movie reviewer on UA-cam.
is the mother's name ... Martha ?
this is Grounded BatMan ... right ?
Willard is finally awesome movie remake of the 2000s like Dawn of the Dead and The Ringu Movie.
I clicked on this expecting that show where the dude talks to his neighbor's dog who he sees as a dude in a goofy dog suit. I was pleasantly surprised.
That was a strange show
Wilfred!
this made me miss my pet rats. they were named star and tiffany. for anyone wondering. rats are proned to tumors and fluid build up in the lungs. 2-4 years life span. ;( i miss going to the pet store with star on my shoulder or in my hair with her tail sticking out. people's double taking were fun to watch.
The title of your sex tape bit made me laugh, thanks newbee! ❤
The best film of Crispin Glover!))) Thank you for nice review.)
when I owned pet rats, my uncle used to tell me to watch this movie 😅
Good job mate.
I feel so bad almost cried when socrates was getting killed... And willard jst stand there doing nothing?
In his defense, trying to stop Mr. Martin would probably end up getting Willard in more trouble at work, and since he’s already in hot water and struggling to survive. Willard really couldn’t do anything without risking his livelihood
Your Review is Brilliant!
mvp of movie reviews!!!!!
I think Ben is a Gambian Pouched Rat.
Edit: Sorry Owned Rats not a huge rat nerd but Hero rats like Ben's species are awesome. Check them out! :)
🐭🐭 such an entertaining review! Thank you!
“You wanna be Megatron?”
I would be 😂
This review was great.
I didn't know I was horrified by rats.
Now I do. Thanks, lol
Even though I played with baby garters as a kid it's snakes for me, especially seeing 'em with their mouths open showing their fangs
🐍😕
1:56 I am suspiciously doubt that
One of my all time favorite movies.. i had an army of pet rats as a kid. I never understood why he hated Ben so much it made me so sad as a kid. I cant find the movie to rewatch it unfortunately. So i appreciate the recap lol
I’m pretty sure Crispin Glover plays himself in every movie. He is terrifying. Also, did a possum play Ben?
No, Ben was played by a pouched rat. I believe Crispin said in an interview that it was a Gambian pouched rat. These guys are, of course, larger than true rats and have cheek pouches like hamsters.
Fun fact: They've been trained to detect landmines and tuberculosis. (Look up HeroRats.)
Haven seen the original really liked this movie really like r lee ermee mostly because of gunnery sgt heartman in a full meatle jacket
@@ianashby1449 I think I've seen all three movies, the original Willard, Ben and the 2003 remake. I prefer the Crispin Glover film tbh.
I love you NewBee ♡
I'd watch C-Team
