Edit: The Harry Potter & Stephen King references were one thing, but “Hemingway Trombone” killed me.
One of the best Lovecraftian/ Cosmic Horror movies imo! Seems like John Carpenter and/or Sam Neill were almost requisite to making one of quality for a couple of decades, there.

This is one of the few "old ones" kind of movies that works. There's no win or overcoming them. They will win. But before that happens they will drive you mad, destroy everything you care about, and turn your world inside-out. You might be one of the lucky few to survive but the world you have is no longer your own. These are bleak stories that don't always translate well to film. This seems to do it quite well. I may have to watch this one in full. Plus 4 bees is a solid review.
This was the first movie that introduced me to "meta" films, and I'll always have a fond spot for it.

oh dude bless your heart. i feel like this movie was ripping off Hp Lovecraft to cover up the fact that they were stealing ideas from Stephen King, or maybe my brain is scrambled. that soundtrack was the best thing I've heard toward the end of the century and this movie was about as disturbing as Jacob's Ladder

I go back and forth with The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness for my favorite Carpenter. Well shit Halloween is also amazing...Either way John Carpenter is THE master of horror in my opinion. His atmosphere is unmatched.

Just got back from the cinema after venturing forth from the lonely isolation of my UK coronavirus-related cinematic hiatus - trying (in vain) to make myself look at least _semi_ presentable, after going somewhat "feral" over the last six months of pandemic lockdown [too late for TMI, but let’s just say, standards had very definitely slipped, personal grooming-wise!] - only to be greeted on my return by the welcome notification of a brand new NewBee Review! _YAY!!!_
[Btw: This was my second viewing of Christopher Nolan’s mind blowing/inverting[?] 'Tenet' at my local multiplex; I gave it a couple of weeks apart, but this time, I made the judicious decision to see it with English subtitles, which _ABSOLUTELY_ helped my cognition of the brilliant, but _massively_ intricately-crafted plot!]
Anyway, let the NewBee’s 'In The Mouth Of Madness' _GLORIOUSLY HUMOROUS_ shenanigans begin!

I m a fan of Carpenter since Halloween... I red Lovecraft but it s so difficult to recreate his world in movies... From long time Carpenter unfortunately is out, the last movie was the Ward... Except the last Halloween... This movie in... Madness is not easy like life in Mars... But thanks to give a 4, anyway it s Carpenter lol

He is sorely missed... but man, you really butchered Jürgen Prochnow‘s name 🤣 next time a German actor is featured, hit me up and I will send you a sound bite of the pronunciation of their name. (Which probably won’t happen, since not a whole lot of Germans make it over the big pond these days 😭)
