    Can we just all appreciate how this is one of the most beautifully cliche scenes in anime history? And I mean that in the best way possible. This scene has everything - An amazing insert song, some of the most well animated action in cel animation history, an emotionally charged and satisfying character arc resolution, awesome moments from the main cast with no dialogue and a conclusion that is so heartwarming and positive it can make anyone happy cry. I remember when I first watched this movie the day after finishing the TV series, satisfied but disappointed that it got cut short the way it did. And despite popular belief this isn't a summarising of the original story, it's totally different just following some of the same narrative beats consistently enough for people to fall back on calling it a retelling because it's easier to. But despite that it takes the investment the viewers of the TV series have, bringing the character arcs that were left resolved unsatisfying with a scene preceding this one that makes for an unbelievably cathartic moment. Hikaru's confession to Misa is all we wanted to hear - something that cemented their love for each other in a way that was conclusive and without demeaning Lynn too much. And when it gets to this scene in such an emotional journey... Tears, man. I can't even stop them no matter how many times I watch this scene. There are few things I could really say that are CLASSIC, both contextually and personally. But DYRL is it. It's a classic in the same way It's A Wonderful Life or The Wizard of Oz is classic. Maybe it'll never earn that prestige those movies have but in my eyes it deserves it. It's fucking classic.

    • @StormsandSaugeye
      @StormsandSaugeye 2 роки тому +31

      I like to imagine that it's only considered clichéd now because this movie did it so well that others tried to replicate it with mixed levels of success. Enough so that the market saturation resulted in it Being a bit overused

      IIRC - DYRL is explained in the Macross universe as being a movie version of the "real" events from Super Dimension Fortress Macross. In other words, this movie exists in the Macross universe. This explains why it doesn't exactly match the "real" events of the First Space War - it's a dramatization.

      I used to be so romantic and idealistic until all the mistreatment broke me and desensitized me to the point of not remembering how it used to feel to be in love. Only in my own solitude had I come to realize that I needed to love myself first, and videos like this one reminded me of the pure and innocent feelings I once had, bringing back painful memories that helped me feel something again. They are the one's that put life onto all the planets that have life form via genetic mutation and research, before they went into a galactic civil war which killed both sides. Leaving the Zentradi with one command left to complete, eliminate the remaining Protoculture ( if there was any left until they found humans which resembled a lot with the Protoculture)

      It's good for Macross to be released in the North America but it's sad that there are still a lot of forgotten anime that Harmony Gold hold IPs with during the time of 1990's to early 2000s. It took a court ruling to settle things Big West (Japanese Company in the US) releases everything under the Macross banner and Harmony Gold on their own thing with Robotech licenses. But It's so infuriating as Harmony Gold was still holding off the licenses of a lot of anime IPs so no one can profit from them except themselves in North America.
