My dad introduced me to this anime when I was 13-ish; I always saw a large painting of Priss on her motorcycle in his bedroom growing up and I was like "oh!! That's the lady that was in your bedroom" lmao and we watched it together and I loved it. For his birthday that year I learned Konya wa Hurricane in full Japanese and sang it to him for fun :) still know all the lyrics
@Uncle_Ruckus_ Japan in the 80's was doing crazy good in industry, and their economy was going through a huge boom. However, due to a myriad of economic issues regarding inflated real estate and asset values, their boom was considered a case of a growing bubble, and when that bubble burst in the early 90's, it brought with it a huge economic crash the country still hasn't recovered from fully. For a local comparison, the surprise mortgage bubble here in the States, where lenders kept giving out mortgages they knew couldn't get paid in full while also reporting massively overvalued real estate holdings, eventually led to the notorious 2008 crash.
@@JackgarPrime It got to the point that Japanese corporations, and even individuals, were buying entire skyscrapers in all major cities in the USA. Speculation on real estate in Tokyo was to such an extent, that the land and buildings in the Japanese imperial palace and gardens, was appraised at a value greater than that of the entire state of California.

Most of the world were introduced to 60s 70s and *especially* eighties Anime from television. Even more people have seen 80s Anime images in other context. Always loved the song, when I first saw Bubblegum Crisis, on VHS. The instrumentals sound like something produced by Jim Steinman and the singer's vocal range is close to people like Laura Branigan and Martha Davis, of The Motels. Very "80s," but in the best connotation.
First the Crisis then the Crash. When one says, "they don't make them like this anymore", this is what they are referring too. A sad thing that this too.

I totally love the direction done here.
The song playing in the background as the cops are trying to subdue a rogue cyborg.
Totally felt like watching a Hollywood action movie of that era because of the alternating scenes going back and forth between the concert scene and a scene of carnage.
Bubblegum Crisis. That's a name I haven't heard in over 20 years.

this is true gem from the 80s although the days of cyberpunk anime are long gone at least in my opinion.

OMG The Clash At Demon Head scene is inspired by this, and then they put the song in the Scott's anime. AWESOMEEE

Always loved the song, when I first saw Bubblegum Crisis, on VHS. The instrumentals sound like something produced by Jim Steinman and the singer's vocal range is close to people like Laura Branigan and Martha Davis, of The Motels. Very "80s," but in the best connotation.
Priss & The Repricants
Must be a reference to Brade Runner
It is. So is the name Priss.
The whole scene is also right out of Streets of Fire (which also began with a rock concert).
I rike your comment my friend
"He say you Brade Runnah!"
That made me raugh out roud
First the Crisis then the Crash. When one says, "they don't make them like this anymore", this is what they are referring too. A sad thing that this too.
This era just had so much charm and feel that I can't put into words.
After all these decades, still one of the greatest show openings ever.
I woke up this morning and wanted to hear this song only to find out the same day it's been featured in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off!
Bubblegum Crisis was the first show that got me into Anime.
And Scott Pilgrim was the first Manga I ever read.
Crazy awesome day!🎤
I just finished Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and as soon as I heard the music I was SHOCKED! Like oh my god I love this song so much, I listen to it way too often. It was so nice to hear it in another show I also loved!!
@@scriptyshake Absolutely blew my mind to hear this being played on my speakers from another context like this. I'll admit, I haven't been so in love with the new 'adaptation', but it's definitely trying its hardest to win my heart.
I freaked out, and then made my housemate listen to this.
Who knew Old Scott and the Twins could rock?
The new scott pilgrim was an insane disappointment..
We got the original song in the credits 💙
Follow up:
I just finished watching the series and had to re-watch
Ep7 "2 Scott 2 Pilgrim"

@Youre Gonna Need a Bigger Boat "Boomer" isn't made up.
"Boomer" is a reference to the Generation that had it good after WWII and are still with us, as they're all part of the "baby boom" that happened after WWII.
Even though most of the people doing the complaining are younger than "boomers".
Best intro ever...gives you goosebumps...masterpiece...wish we had directors that could make this possible in movies
Sadly the universe could barely contain such awesomeness. If anyone ever tried...well, reality bursting at the seams has a way of warping such attempts to the point where they suck.😢 i know what you mean, though. It'd be awesome to see something like this done in a live action feature.
@@deathgyunos294 they tried about 10 years ago. Nothing came out of it tho ;(
Why are 80s Anime chicks hotter than current anime chicks? I think there was just a more realistic sense of style back then.
No lolis in sight. They are actually adults.
Back when women in anime were feminine and men were cool af.
Because 80s style and 80s haircuts were more feminine and more sexy in real life
That's accurate.
The eyes while still a bit big, weren't unrealistically big with current anime, that and there's an actual nose instead of bump on the face. In other words, the characters back then are more realistic in the face compared to the current anime characters.
All these years and I still get goosebumps when she starts singing.

Wat?
Games4us Meaning if you knew what 80s metal bands looked like this was an obvious nod to them
@@nosfonader8792 This isn't a nod, this was MADE in the 80s. The first BGC 2032 OVA, "Tinsel city" (which is mostly referenced in this AMV), was released in 1986. Now, while the 2010s shows like Gundam Unicorn or Gundam: The ORIGIN are _stylized_ as a nod to the 70es and 80es when most of the UC-era shows were made (even Char's Counterattack was 1988), BGC 2032 IS the 80s show. Only the two last OVAs out of eight were made in the 90s, before the burst of the "bubble economy" made high-value OVAs like that uneconomical.

The art and music are amazing. Now you can’t see this anymore.
Amazon probably has a DVD box set.
I remember when this came out and people were getting their first "RAW" bootlegs. You find someone to had something and you traded something good for what they had. When people first saw this they were to amazed. You had a bizarre title, set in cyberpunk future, a rave performance that blew you out of your seat (and still holds up to this day) and then the action starts where you got the city's police department and riot squad is trying to stop some rampaging cyborgs courtesy of the corporation Genom. You wonder what the hell is all this about. Until you find out that Priss the lead vocalist of the Replicants (which is a nod to Blade Runner) is also a member of the city's mercenary force for good against the Genom's cybernetic fiasco. I'll say this that out of the entire series which is laden with 80's synth pop 'Koniya wa Hurricane' IS THE best song on the entire album. LOL!! Gotta love Leon, he loves the music but he just can't get the girl.
Damn this is amazing, possibly the most aesthetic and creative thing I've ever seen. I can't even imagine the amount of work they put into this video, so creative, expressive, wild, and unique, this truly is an EXPERIENCE ♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏

Robert McMillan I completely agree with you. The voice actress of Priss sung the song. The other voice actresses also did some singing with other songs.
Priss and the Replicants, eh? Somebody's showing their source material, which I heartily approve of.
Nooo, it’s Priss and the REPRICANTS! A “repricant” is a totally different entity than a “replicant”, not at all copyright similar! 😂
Might also be a fact of not speaking/writing English as a first language, to be completely fair to 'em.
