  • How to align a standard turntable.
    1) Set arc
    2) Set angle
    3) Set VTF (vertical tracking force)
    4) Set Anti-Skate
    VTA (vertical tracking angle) should already be addressed and set before setup. Only showed if switching cartidges if different VTA. See my other video on setting VTA.

    thank you very much the Alignment Protractor Generator was very useful for my vintage turntable which is a bit strange model! An Onkyo CP700m. I was able to get the specifications and make the corresponding protractor. I'm very relieved because I couldn't get it anywhere, thanks!

    Baerwald is not exactly good for Technics tonearms geometry. It´s best to stick with usual Technics overhang gauge with Technics S tonearms.

      You can really use whatever alignment you want. The only issue is getting the headshell turned. It has nothing to do with S-geometry. Every arm has a bend, it just depends on how far down the tube it starts to bend.

    The Ortofon OM Pro headshell makes the left and right alignment challenging. All I have is a tip, no predominant headshell.

    • @stereoazimuth
      @stereoazimuth  3 місяці тому

      That does make it challenging if you don’t have a point of reference to align.

    Thanks, for the video - it helped me locate and print the protractors I was most interested in!

    Really you don't want to bias to the weight, there's a lot of factors involved groove depth where it is relevant on the platter record, if it's 1.25g set it between 0.5g -1g always keep it a bit under. there is a school of thought not to use anti bias st all, it's quite popular in Japan, something that uou have to tune in with your ear try headphones different cartridges work slightly different as well

    You could just get a Concorde for your 1200 and be done. Perfect alignment right out of the box and no need to mess around with a protractor (or whatever they call those things). I get it that you perhaps would want another cartridge, perhaps one of the Audio-Technicas with a Micro-Line stylus. They will have lower distortion figures due to the more advanced diamond cut. But with a good Ortofon needle it's already lower than whatever is one the record. It's quite simply real hard to beat a Concorde on a Technics table. They could have made the Concordes a few grams lighter though or allow you to add/reduce weight like you can on the regular Ortofon OM-series

    I have a PioneerPL-518 with a blue Ortofon cart and headshell. How did you determine the overhang position? I’ve been looking for a gauge for the correct position and I’ve found nothing

    Taka mała uwaga ten szablon Bearwald jest na 232.82 mm (23,66m) standard i geometria ramienia tehnics to 230mm (215mm 15mm) i 52 mm overhang. moim zdaniem ten szablon nie jest przeznaczony do tej geometrii ramienia , gdyby tak było technics nie dawał by swojej władnej geometri z prostym ustawieniem na 52mm.

      You are free to use whatever alignment work best for you given the pivot to spindle distance despite what the manufacturer states.

    It looks like vinylengine only lets members access these print offs and they aren’t accepting new members … ?
    I just bought a second hand JVC L-F210 turntable any idea where I can find this print file? Thanks so much.

      Anyone can register for a free account with Vinyl Engine. It just has to be from a valid email address and no disposable email addresses. My gmail accounts worked fine.

    Is cartridge scale and pivot-to-spindle measuing tool really necessary?

    • @stereoazimuth
      @stereoazimuth  2 роки тому

      Just because it is an S-arm? It is effective pivot-to-spindle. All an S-arm does is allow for a longer arm but keep the pivot closer to the spindle. The arc is the same as the "effective" piviot-to-spindle.

      @@stereoazimuth Ah ok. I just got an old Rega P3 from the year 2000 with the RB300 tonearm and I'm not sure if cartridge scale and pivot-to-spindle measuring tool are necessary for accurately installing the new cartridge

  • @Lasse3
    @Lasse3 Рік тому +1

    Let me see if I understand.
    So if you're over / past the arc, move the cartridge back in the headshell - until the stylus hits the arc.
    And in the end, you make sure that the cantilever / cartridge is tangential / parallel with the inner and outer null point 'grid'
    - and this has to occur while the stylus itself is able to track / make physical contact with the entire arc.
    Oh well, seems pretty easy.
    (It isn't 😉)

    • @stereoazimuth
      @stereoazimuth  Рік тому +1

      Yes, because the arc sets the pivot to spindle distance, and then the square alignment means it is aligned in that arc correctly (and not going sideways or something).
